Key domains (each with active projects): - **Artificial Intelligence**: Machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing – e.g., FadeNet (a CNN for large‑scale fading prediction), ICCV competition wins. - **Digital Health**: ECG Monitor App (FDA‑cleared for atrial fibrillation screening on Galaxy Watch), other health‑related algorithms. - **Robotics Intelligence**: Research on robot perception, manipulation, and human‑robot interaction. - **Next Generation Communications**: 5G/6G, advanced wireless technologies. - **Digital Media**: Video processing, image enhancement, multimedia codecs. - **Mobile Platform & Solutions**: Android system optimization, middleware, security. - **Mobile Processor Innovation**: Chip design, power management, heterogeneous computing. (Source for all research areas: [sra.samsung.com](https://sra.samsung.com/)) ## Market Standing - **Valuation / Market Cap**: Not applicable (SRA is a subsidiary; parent Samsung Electronics had a market cap of ~$370 billion as of mid‑2025). - **Key Metric**: Total funding is irrelevant (SRA is funded by Samsung). Instead, a notable metric: **9 R&D offices across North America** and direct collaboration with global Samsung research centers. - **Notable Investors / Partners**: Partners include academic institutions and industry collaborators in AI, med‑tech, and 6G (source: [sra.samsung.com/about-sra](https://sra.samsung.com/about-sra/)). - **Growth Signals**: SRA’s internship program is expanding; the company actively recruits for summer internships in multiple labs (Digital Health, AI Center, Computer Vision, Android, etc.) as seen on their Greenhouse careers page. ## Competitive Advantages - **Direct path to commercialization**: Unlike many academic labs, SRA’s research regularly becomes real products shipped to millions of users (e.g., ECG Monitor, FadeNet in Samsung’s CognitiV Radio Planner). - **Global scale & resources**: Interns have access to Samsung’s vast engineering ecosystem, world‑class mentors, and state‑of‑the‑art facilities. - **Multidisciplinary teams**: Work across AI, hardware, communications, and health – rare for a single internship program. - **Strong patent and publication culture**: SRA researchers frequently file patents and publish at top conferences (e.g., ICCV). ## Strategic Focus - **Ambient Intelligence** – creating seamless, context‑aware experiences across devices. - **Generative AI** – applied to voice assistants, content creation, and personalization. - **Digital Health & Med‑Tech** – expanding FDA‑cleared solutions and remote patient monitoring. - **6G & Next‑Gen Communications** – preparing for post‑5G networks. - **Robotics** – developing intelligent machines for home and industrial use. (Source: [sra.samsung.com/about-sra](https://sra.samsung.com/about-sra/)) ## Why Work Here - **Impactful work**: Interns are treated as full contributors – “make contributions that have a global impact” and see their ideas go to market. - **Competitive compensation**: Industry‑competitive pay, plus **housing stipend** and **relocation assistance** (source: [sra.samsung.com/internships](https://sra.samsung.com/internships/)). - **Benefits**: Medical, vision, and dental insurance; onsite fitness center; subsidized meals; automated coffee bar; student loan refinancing; virtual + onsite fitness programs. - **Culture**: “Speak up, be bold, eager to learn from mistakes, support each other” – a transparent, innovation‑focused environment. - **Professional development**: Real‑world experience on commercial projects, mentorship from world‑class managers, opportunities to attend conferences and competitions. - **Remote / hybrid**: Some roles are listed with a “Remote Option” (specific to certain positions); SRA offers flexible work arrangements.
