This is a hands-on, customer-facing role for someone accounting who thinks like an accountant but is energized by technology and automation. You'll bring deep knowledge of cash application, AR, and reconciliation workflows to help prospects and customers understand how our platform solves real accounting problems, guide successful implementations, and help ensure our product keeps solving the problems that matter most to finance teams. This role sits at the intersection of Sales, Customer Success, and Product — you'll support the sales cycle by fielding accounting-specific questions, lead or support customer onboarding and configuration, and act as the internal voice of the accounting practitioner as we build and refine the product. ## What You’ll Do - Serve as the in-house subject matter expert on order-to-cash, cash application, accounts receivable, and reconciliation processes and best practices - Partner with Sales during the pre-sales cycle — join demos and discovery calls to answer technical/operational accounting questions and help prospects map their current-state process to our platform - Lead or support customer onboarding: understand each client's existing reconciliation workflows, chart of accounts, and AR systems, and configure the platform to match their process - Translate complex accounting concepts into clear, practical guidance for both customers and internal teams - Act as a trusted advisor to customers' accounting and finance teams throughout onboarding and ongoing use, ensuring they're getting full value from the platform - Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering to relay customer feedback, identify gaps, and help shape the roadmap based on real accounting practitioner needs - Help build internal enablement content, playbooks, and training materials that reflect real-world accounting scenarios - Provide guidance to product and engineering teams on technical customer product requests and challenges to inform proper roadmapping where possible Required Skills & Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance - At least 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally with a combination of Big 4 and industry experience - Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite, Quickbooks, Xero) and finance/accounting workflows. - E-commerce experience is a plus - You love working with others and teaching others new ways of doing things. - Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously, prioritize open issues, and manage multiple deadlines - Work independently, and as part of a larger team, to utilize your industry experience and creativity in creating customer solutions - Experience with complex workflow automation and reconciliation ## Compensation - Base Salary: $85,000–$100,000 depending on experience - Comprehensive healthcare coverage (medical, dental, vision) - Remote-first culture with flexible working hours - Open leave policy ## About Blue Onion ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Blue Onion provides a financial intelligence platform that turns fragmented e-commerce transaction data into a clean, reconciled source of truth for finance teams. - **Entity Type**: Private; raised $10.1M total funding (Series A in April 2025) - **Headquarters**: New York, NY, United States - **Founded**: 2020 - **Founders**: Lyndsey Bunting ## Core Business - Primary industry: Fintech / Financial Data Infrastructure / E-commerce - Target customers: E-commerce brands and retailers (B2B, mid-market to enterprise) - Mission/purpose: To give e-commerce brands total confidence in their financial data, enabling faster closes, clearer margins, and AI-powered finance workflows. ## Products & Services - **[Blue Onion Platform]**: A SaaS subledger and financial intelligence platform that ingests, reconciles, and structures transaction data from e-commerce systems (Shopify, custom stacks, etc.). It powers three modules: - **Close**: Month-end close that becomes a one-day formality. - **Fabric**: An AI-ready data layer that gives agents a trusted foundation to reason, automate, and act. - **Edge**: Decomposes every margin shift so the story tells itself for board meetings. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Annual recurring revenue estimated at $30M (as stated on their website ROI calculator benchmark) - **Total Funding**: $10.125M across three rounds: - Series A (April 2025): $10.0M led by Viola FinTech - Seed Round (2020): $125K led by Y Combinator - Pre-Seed Round (2020) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Y Combinator (S20 batch), Viola FinTech - **Growth Signals**: Trusted by 200+ leading retail & e-commerce brands; actively hiring for senior product and marketing roles; reported revenue range of $1M-$5M on LinkedIn but self-reported calculator suggests rapid scaling beyond that. ## Competitive Advantages - **E-commerce-native data layer**: Deep expertise in reconciling messy, multi-system e-commerce financial data — not a generic ERP or accounting tool. - **AI-reliable foundation**: Positions itself as the essential "source of truth" layer that makes AI agents useful in finance, preventing hallucination and reconciliation errors. - **Modular but unified**: All modules (Close, Fabric, Edge) run on a single reconciled data foundation, reducing fragmentation. - **Quick integration**: Connects natively on day one with no engineering or rip-and-replace required. - **Founder-led**: Founder Lyndsey Bunting brings hands-on experience as former VP of Finance at Birchbox and CFO at Resonance Companies, giving deep domain credibility. ## Strategic Focus - **Scale AI-native finance**: Building the data backbone that powers AI agents for finance teams (reconciliation, forecasting, margin analysis). - **Expand enterprise adoption**: Moving from 200+ customers deeper into larger retail and e-commerce enterprises. - **Product-led growth**: Emphasis on ROI calculators and self-service proof points to drive adoption. - **Headcount growth**: Team size has grown from 27 (YC profile) to 44 (LinkedIn), indicating active scaling. ## Why Work Here - **Remote-first**: Fully remote (US-based) with equity, health/dental/vision, and paid parental leave. - **Culture**: Described as "curious people who care about getting the details right" — customer-focused, humble, and collaborative. "We build with our customers, not just for them." - **Engineering culture**: Uses a modern tech stack (Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, dbt, Docker, Airflow, Google Cloud, React, Ruby) with an emphasis on solving hard data problems. - **Growth opportunity**: YC-backed, Series A, and actively scaling — early-stage equity and impact. - **Transparent and flat**: "Every voice is equal and every opinion encouraged." - **Open roles (as of recent)**: Growth Marketing Manager ($125K-$140K), Accounting Solutions Expert, Senior Product Manager. ### Sources 1.
