We build market-leading, online college credit and test-preparation solutions that help working adults earn their degrees, advance their careers, and achieve economic mobility. Recognized by Fast Company and GSV 150 as one of the world’s most innovative education companies, we are also at the forefront of AI-first learning, combining artificial intelligence with the latest learning science to improve access and outcomes at scale. Our product is our impact. Through our Keys to College and Keys to the Classroom initiatives, we have saved students over $700 million in tuition and enabled hundreds of thousands of learners to pursue and succeed in careers across nursing, teaching, counseling, business, and other high-demand fields. We are deeply focused on measurable outcomes and building products that create meaningful, lasting change in people’s lives. ## What You’ll Do Study.com is seeking an AI Email & SMS Manager to evolve our consumer email and SMS programs into an AI-native system — with AI as the backbone rather than an add-on. Email and SMS are a revenue stream, and you'll own it: the number, the forecast, and the strategy behind it, from first hello to win-back. You'll build the intelligent, automated journeys that turn interest into paying College Saver and Test Prep members, and, in partnership with Product, a member experience that helps learners actually reach their academic goals. That progress is what drives retention and extended LTV. We believe this is where marketing is going, and we're genuinely excited to have the resourcing behind it: dedicated AI technical support, contractors, and an agentic tooling environment already wired to our warehouse and our ESP — the kind of support that turns one idea into ten shipped experiments. We're looking for a technical mind with real marketing chops — someone who will design the system and build it, with creative, AI, and business analyst partners supporting them. You'll set the strategy and shape what this function grows into. This role is based in our Mountain View, CA office and is hybrid in office Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. ## What You’ll Do - Own email and SMS as a revenue stream. Set the strategy, forecast the channel, and own its contribution to new members and lifetime value. - Build the acquisition nurture engine. Design, build, and continuously tune the automated flows that move a captured lead to a paid membership — abandon recovery, first-session nurture, offer sequencing, re-engagement, and win-back — across both College Saver and Test Prep, on email and SMS. - Architect the AI systems layer. Build the agents, pipelines, and internal tooling that let a small function operate like a large one: audience construction, content and variant generation, personalization, QA, anomaly detection, and automated reporting. - Partner with Product on the member experience. Work with Product, Content, Creative, and Data Science to build lifecycle experiences that read a learner's real behavior and academic goal, then intervene usefully — the right nudge, course, or milestone at the right moment — with learner progress as the retention lever. - Apply LLMs to the judgment-adjacent work. Segment on intent rather than crude demographics, generate and grade copy variants, and explain why a cohort behaved as it did — writing the evals that tell you when the model is wrong. - Lead experimentation and measurement. Run A/B testing, cohort analysis, and KPI reporting as a standing practice, instrument everything you ship from day one, and automate your own reporting. Lead capture volume is part of your remit too — it caps everything downstream. - Present to leadership. Bring performance insights, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to leadership, and connect lifecycle initiatives to broader business goals. What You’ll Bring To The Role: - Experience building and shipping AI-powered systems, including agents, LLM pipelines, automations, retrieval workflows, evaluation frameworks, or internal tools. We value candidates who have used AI to build real products and workflows—not just AI assistants. Professional and side projects both count. - Comfort using AI- Claude Cowork and Claude Code to build marketing solutions. - A working point of view on modern AI tooling — LLM APIs, prompt and context design, agentic coding environments, and automation platforms, including where models help and where they quietly fail. - Marketing instinct and consumer empathy. You can write a subject line that sounds like a person, and you understand the motivations, anxieties, and aspirations behind an enrollment decision — learners weighing money, time, and whether they can do this at all. - Comfort with consumer funnels. Behavioral segmentation, event-based triggers, and journey design for individual consumers, not just account-level workflows. You can tell real signal from noise in a funnel, and you're comfortable shipping a working v1 and iterating rather than waiting on a perfect plan. - Ownership — This is a hands-on role, you'll build it, ship it, and own the results. ## What you don’t need - Years of email or SMS marketing experience. - Experience with a specific lifecycle platform — we use Listrak, and you'll pick up the channel craft (deliverability, list hygiene, CAN-SPAM/TCPA compliance) hands-on as the owner of the program. - People management experience. We're hiring for how you build, not how long you've worked in lifecycle marketing. Engineers, data scientists, technical PMs, and growth generalists building with AI are all strong fits. What You’ll Bring To The Role: - Experience with consumer subscription or B2C SaaS growth — retention, churn, and LTV mechanics - Prior work in edtech, consumer SaaS, or mission-driven technology companies - Familiarity with lifecycle or CRM platforms, predictive analytics, and cross-channel orchestration The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 per year. Pay is dependent upon factors including skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
