You’ll own core backend systems and applied LLM work: advancing agent reliability and autonomy, building evaluation pipelines, and shipping techniques that measurably improve agent performance. This is a hands-on role with high ownership across research-to-production: prototyping, instrumenting, evaluating, and deploying improvements that show up directly in user outcomes. ## What You’ll Do - Design and implement agent improvements end-to-end: prompting strategies, tool selection, action planning, memory usage, safety/guardrails, and recovery paths - Build robust evaluation pipelines for the agent: offline evals (golden tasks, regression suites, behavior tests), online metrics (latency, success rate, fallout modes, cost efficiency), and experimentation frameworks (A/B, canaries, guardrail thresholds) - Productionize applied LLM techniques: function/tool-calling orchestration, self-reflection, retrieval/RAG, multi-agent handoffs, caching/embedding strategies, and hallucination reduction - Improve core backend systems: reliable job orchestration, retries/backoff, idempotency, and auditability; scalable memory and context routing; data pipelines across Gmail, Slack, Notion, Linear, Google Workspace, etc.; observability and tracing for agent actions/outcomes - Partner with product and infra to define success metrics and ship fast, safe iterations - Write clean, well-tested code; document design decisions and runbooks ## What You’ll Bring - 4+ years backend engineering experience, preferably Python (we care about impact over years) - Hands-on LLM experience: prompt engineering, function-calling, retrieval, embeddings, evaluation design; you’ve shipped LLM features to production - Track record building evaluation harnesses and using them to drive improvements (regression suites, task success metrics, cost/runtime tradeoffs) - Solid distributed systems fundamentals: concurrency, reliability, performance, data modeling, lifecycle management - Pragmatic experimentation: hypothesis → prototype → measured improvement → rollout - Excellent debugging and instrumentation skills; you enjoy finding and fixing edge cases in the wild ## Nice To Have - Experience with agent frameworks, tool orchestration, and memory architectures - RAG systems in production (chunking, retrieval quality, freshness strategies) - Redis, Postgres/Supabase, queues (e.g., Celery/Arq/SQS), and event-driven designs - Observability stacks (Datadog, OpenTelemetry), and cost/latency optimization ## Why Join Us - Mission: build autonomous agents that run entire businesses - Impact: ship core agent improvements that users feel immediately - Velocity: small, senior team; fast decision cycles; high ownership - Stack: modern tooling across AI orchestration, integrations, and memory systems ## Compensation - Competitive salary and meaningful equity - Comprehensive benefits and flexible work setup ## About The General Intelligence Company of New York ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: The General Intelligence Company is building AI agents that run entire businesses autonomously, enabling a one-person billion-dollar company. - **Entity Type**: Private (Seed stage; raised $8.7M Seed round in December 2025) - **Headquarters**: New York, New York, United States (also has an office in San Francisco) - **Founded**: January 2025 - **Founders**: Abhishyant Khare (Cofounder, CTO) and Andrew P. (Co-founder, CEO) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Applied AI / Enterprise Automation / Agentic Platforms - **Target customers**: Entrepreneurs, small business owners, and anyone wanting to start or run a business using autonomous agents (B2B, SMB, solopreneurs) - **Mission**: To enable the one-person one-billion dollar company – a world where anyone with an idea can start and run a business with AI agents. ## Products & Services - **[Cofounder](https://cofounder.co)**: An agentic platform that lets users automate their entire business using natural language. Cofounder can handle functions like coding, customer support, marketing, sales, and cross-functional coordination. It evolved from a single-agent tool (Cofounder 1.5) to a multi-agent orchestration platform (Cofounder 2) that runs an entire company with agents. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of $10.7M across two rounds: - Pre-Seed (May 2025): $2.0M led by Compound and Acrew Capital - Seed (December 2025): $8.7M led by Union Square Ventures, with participation from Acrew Capital, Compound, Scott Belsky, Yohei Nakajima, Agent Fund, Mute Ventures, and others - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Compound, Acrew Capital, Union Square Ventures, Scott Belsky, Yohei Nakajima - **Growth Signals**: - Headcount grew from ~1 to 11 employees (+500% YoY) in its first year - SOC-2 certified (December 2025) - Launched Cofounder 2 (agentic companies platform) in May 2026 - Introduced The General Intelligence Fellowship (March 2026) offering $1,000 upfront + $100/day in credits - Strong LinkedIn follower growth (+18.7% monthly, reaching 3,634 followers) ## Competitive Advantages - **Full-stack business automation**: Unlike narrow AI agents that handle only one function (e.g., coding or customer support), General Intelligence is building a coordinator agent that orchestrates swarms of agents across all business functions. - **Agent-native engineering**: The company practices what it calls “Agent Native Engineering” – engineers ship 20+ PRs daily using heavy AI tooling, enabling extreme velocity. - **Design-forward culture**: They emphasize beautiful, functional products, not just utilitarian AI tools. - **First-mover in “agentic companies”**: They are explicitly targeting the vision of a fully autonomous company, a frontier most AI labs are only beginning to explore. ## Strategic Focus - **Enable the one-person billion-dollar company**: The core strategic bet is that small teams (or even one person) armed with powerful agents can run vast, complex businesses. - **Continuous platform evolution**: From Cofounder 1.0 to 1.5 (improved memory) to Cofounder 2 (multi-agent orchestration) – rapid iteration based on user feedback. - **Talent density**: Hiring only “founding” engineers and researchers, maintaining a flat organization with no silos, and a culture of extreme cycle time. ## Why Work Here - **Culture highlights**: - “No Bullshit Meetings” – only meet when needed and with the right people. - “Cycle Time” is everything – ship fast, learn fast. - “No Backlog” – if an idea is good it will come back; otherwise it’s noise. - “No Silos” – flat organization, everyone works across product, engineering, and users. - “Design Culture” – products must be beautiful, not just functional. - “Speed Over Everything” and “Delete the Part” – cut anything that doesn’t add value. - **Remote/Hybrid/Office**: Primarily in-office in New York City (HQ) with a San Francisco office. The careers page lists roles as “Full Time” with no explicit remote tag, suggesting strong in-person presence. - **Notable perks/engineering culture**: - Engineers are expected to use the best AI tooling without limits – “one of the most AI-forward companies in the world.” - Small, dedicated teams with intense focus. - High ownership – all early hires are “Founding” roles (e.g., Founding Designer, Founding Backend Engineer). - The company believes in “working hard and living a fulfilling life” – a balance of intensity and quality of life. ## Sources 1.
