Our tech stack - Google Cloud - Python, TypeScript - Protobuf, gRPC - [Next.JS](http://Next.JS), [React.JS](http://React.JS) - GitHub Actions - Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker - PostgreSQL ## About Foundation EGI ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Foundation EGI is an AI platform that automates how manufacturers create, manage, and distribute technical documentation — transforming 3D CAD designs into technical drawings, workstep sequences, product catalogs, and multilingual manuals. - **Entity Type**: Private (funding stage not publicly disclosed; "backed by top VCs" as of 2025) - **Headquarters**: Not explicitly disclosed — remote-friendly company with roots at MIT CSAIL (Cambridge, MA, USA) and leadership based in the San Francisco Bay Area (Los Altos, CA) - **Founded**: 2023 (incorporated late 2023; research began at MIT CSAIL in 2022) - **Founders**: Dr. Mok Oh (Co-founder & CEO), Prof. Wojciech Matusik (Co-founder & Chief Scientist), Michael Foshey (Co-founder & Head of Research) ## Core Business - **Primary industries**: AI for manufacturing / engineering software ("engineering intelligence"); technical documentation automation for physical product companies - **Target customers**: B2B, enterprise — manufacturers and companies that build physical products - **Mission**: "Building the AI layer for physical engineering" — the company states: "We believe the companies building physical products deserve tools as intelligent as the products they build." ## Products & Services The EGI Platform ("Engineering Automation") is the core offering, a SaaS/AI platform with four major modules: - **Production-ready drawings from CAD**: Instantly generates GD&T technical drawings with accurate views and dimensions, AI-assisted feature detection/annotation, and standards-compliant output — eliminating manual drafting bottlenecks. - **Workstep sequences**: Automatically generates optimized workstep sequencing and production plans from CAD geometry, with interference/tooling clearance validation and automated diff analysis between model revisions. - **Product catalogs from CAD**: Generates precise 2D and 3D product catalogs directly from CAD designs, ready to publish when designs are finalized. - **Technical manuals**: Produces operator and service manuals in multiple languages with full technical precision, no lost context or manual reformatting between revisions. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not publicly available - **Key Metric (Private)**: Total funding not disclosed — company site confirms "top VCs" backing as of 2025 but does not name investors or amounts - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Not named publicly on the company site; investors described only as "Top VCs" - **Growth Signals**: - Research began at MIT CSAIL in 2022; incorporated late 2023 - First enterprise customer landed in 2024 - Platform expansion and VC backing in 2025 - Actively hiring across engineering, product, and research (open roles listed on Lever) - Leadership team includes executives formerly at Mercari, Samsung, PayPal, Apple, Honda Drivemode, Flexport, Rakuten, and Viki ## Competitive Advantages - **MIT CSAIL research origin**: Born from a research project at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, giving the company deep academic credibility in AI, computer graphics, and digital fabrication. - **Deep technical rigor**: The team describes itself as "scientists and engineers first" — every feature is grounded in research and validated against real manufacturing workflows before reaching customers. - **Factory-floor domain depth**: Years spent understanding the specific constraints of physical product companies — the platform reflects real manufacturing reality, not just lab conditions. - **Human-in-the-loop philosophy**: AI is designed to "remove toil, not replace judgment" — engineers stay in control while automation handles tedious work, a differentiator for adoption in regulated/enterprise environments. - **Strong founder pedigree**: CEO Dr. Mok Oh (MIT Ph.D., former executive at Mercari, Samsung, PayPal), Chief Scientist Prof. Wojciech Matusik (MIT CSAIL professor, former Adobe/Disney Research), and Head of Research Michael Foshey (10+ years at MIT CSAIL in design/manufacturing AI). ## Strategic Focus - Scaling the EGI platform from first enterprise customer (2024) to broader market expansion (2025 onward) - Automating the full engineering documentation workflow "from design to manufacturing" - Growing the team across engineering, product, and research while maintaining a remote-friendly, research-driven culture - Standardizing documentation processes at scale for manufacturers (reducing errors, removing manual drafting bottlenecks) ## Why Work Here - **Small team, hard problems**: The careers page explicitly pitches "a small team solving hard problems at the intersection of mechanical engineering and AI." - **Remote-friendly**: All open roles are open to remote candidates unless otherwise noted. - **Open roles**: Hiring across engineering, product, and research (posted on the Lever careers page under "Foundation LLM Technologies"). - **Research-backed culture**: Founders and team come from MIT CSAIL and leading tech companies (Mercari, Samsung, PayPal, Apple, Flexport, Honda Drivemode), combining academic rigor with scaled product experience. - **Mission-driven work**: Opportunity to build AI infrastructure for an underserved market — physical product/manufacturing companies that still generate documentation by hand. - **Global, multilingual team**: Team members span the US and Asia and bring experience leading global engineering and product organizations. ## Sources 1.
