We empower exceptional talents in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science to seek scientific boundaries, push through them, and apply cutting edge research to global financial markets. Our culture is unique. Constant innovation requires fearlessness, creativity, intellectual honesty, and a relentless competitive streak. We believe in winning together and unlocking unique individual talent by incentivizing collaboration and mutual respect. At Jump, research outcomes drive more than superior risk adjusted returns. We design, develop, and deploy technologies that change our world, fund start-ups across industries, and partner with leading global research organizations and universities to solve problems. Core Development is a global team of technologists who architect, build and maintain our world-class trading platform. From optimizing our core trading engine to building custom hardware, we leverage software and hardware engineering, data science and research, to deliver the infrastructure and tools that drive our trading and business needs. ------------------------------- *Candidates should be interested in working in one of our APAC offices for their full-time job after graduation. ------------------------------- About the Role: Our APAC Python team sits at the intersection of trading and technology — we build data pipelines, post-trade infrastructure, analytics platforms, and middle-office systems that the business relies on every day. You'll work on problems that matter, ship code that runs in production, and collaborate directly with trading desks, operations, and research teams across the firm. Responsibilities: Python is our primary language and it touches everything we do. The scope is wide: - Data pipelines — Develop and maintain ETL pipelines that source, normalize, and deliver vendor data, tick/bar data, and trading data firm-wide. Ensure data integrity across millions of records daily using Python, Kafka, MySQL, and ClickHouse - Business-specific infrastructure — Build the trading platforms that support the firm's expansion into new businesses and markets. Deliver solutions that enable strategic initiatives and make trading more efficient and intelligent - Post-trade analytics — Partner with business teams to perform statistical analysis on trading performance. Build anomaly detection systems, model exchange behavior, and quantify the impact of infrastructure changes on trading outcomes - Post-trade systems — Build and operate the infrastructure that processes every trade after execution: clearing, reconciliation, fee computation, position management, and PnL. Parse broker files from clearing houses worldwide, enrich trades with reference data, and compute fees across dozens of global markets and asset classes. We are actively migrating core components to Rust for performance and reliability - Production ownership — Debug real incidents, trace data through the full pipeline, and fix root causes. You build it, you run it, you own it Profile: - You write clean, production-quality code and take pride in the craft — not just making it work, but making it right - You're rigorous with data — you dig into large datasets to resolve complex issues, and you don't trust easy conclusions - You are self-driven and proactive, with a natural instinct to take ownership and push through ambiguity - You collaborate well across teams — trading, operations, finance, and engineering all depend on what we build - You thrive in a fast-paced trading environment where priorities shift and projects need to move quickly - You are genuinely curious about how things work under the hood — systems, markets, data flows — and you go deeper than the surface - You use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc) to move faster — and you have the judgment to know when to trust the output and when to question it Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field - Proficient in Python with hands-on experience building and maintaining production systems - Comfortable working on Linux — command line, debugging, and bare-metal environments - Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design - Solid debugging skills and the ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases quickly Bonus/Good to Have: - Experience with Kafka, or data pipeline tooling - Background in statistics or data analysis - Experience with Rust or C++ - Competitive programming background - No finance or economics experience required — we'll teach you the domain ## About Jump Trading ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Jump Trading is a global proprietary trading firm that builds advanced algorithms, high-performance infrastructure, and research-driven strategies to trade across all major asset classes and time horizons. - **Entity Type**: Private (Self-funded, no venture capital) - **Headquarters**: Chicago, Illinois, United States - **Founded**: 1999 - **Founders**: Not publicly disclosed (commonly cited as Paul Gurinas and Bill DiSomma, but not confirmed on company materials) ## Core Business - **Primary Industry**: Financial Services – Proprietary Trading, Algorithmic Trading, High-Frequency Trading (HFT) - **Target Customers**: Institutional (the firm trades exclusively for its own account; serves as a liquidity provider and market maker on global exchanges) - **Mission Statement**: "We don’t chase what’s working.
