If you still feel like you might be a good fit, please feel free to APPLY ANYWAY. We believe in a well-rounded team, and this sometimes means that someone with out-of-context knowledge can contribute just as well as someone with very explicit alignment with our capabilities needs stated. Our positions are based in Reston, Virginia, with much of our team operating in a hybrid or remote fashion. Our preference is for candidates in or around this area (or willing to relocate) as we scale our facilities and engineering team to provide more opportunities to work and collaborate in-person. This position involves access to technology that is subject to U.S. export controls. Any job offer made will be contingent upon the applicant’s capacity to serve in compliance with U.S. export controls. Scout Space Inc. does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor. To conform to US Government space technology export regulations, applicants must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, a protected individual as defined by 8 USC 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorization from the US Department of State. We’re Proud to Prioritize Mental Health. Scout Space has been recognized with the Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health by Mental Health America. This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to creating a supportive environment where mental well-being is valued, protected, and openly talked about. We know that when people feel seen and supported, great work happens, and that is the kind of culture we are building here at Scout Space. Compensation is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Summary pay range: $110,000 - $160,000. ## About Scout Space ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Scout Space develops space domain awareness (SDA) sensors, autonomy software, and data platforms that enable spacecraft to detect, track, and characterize objects in orbit. - **Entity Type**: Private – Series A (raised $18M in May 2026) - **Headquarters**: Reston, Virginia, United States - **Founded**: 2019 - **Founders**: Josiah Gruber ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Space domain awareness, defense / national security space, satellite sensors & software - **Target customers**: Government (U.S. Space Force, IC) and commercial satellite operators (B2B, enterprise) - **Mission statement**: “Enable our customers to perform complex missions and avoid threats by using on-board sensing, processing, and autonomous decision making.” ## Products & Services - **Satellite Sensors (Owl)**: Electro-optical and infrared sensors designed for LEO, GEO, and beyond; platform-agnostic. - **Mission Autonomy Software**: Software developed with U.S. Space Force to enable spacecraft to execute complex concepts of operations (CONOPS) autonomously. - **Edge Processing**: Custom compute configurations for on-board data processing, reducing latency and downlink needs. - **Mission Design Services**: Modeling and analysis of mission profiles to assess viability. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not disclosed (private company) - **Key Metric**: Total funding raised – **$29.02M** (Series A of $18M led by Washington Harbour Partners in May 2026, plus earlier rounds) - **Notable Investors**: Washington Harbour Partners (lead), Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC), Noblis Ventures, Decisive Point, Fusion Fund, and others - **Growth Signals**: - Selected by Blue Origin to integrate the Owl sensor on the inaugural mission of Blue Ring (multi-mission spacecraft). - Multiple Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) awards from the U.S. Space Force for GEO sensing and on-board data processing. - Building a new 2,600 sq. ft. production facility in Northern Virginia to scale manufacturing. ## Competitive Advantages - **Platform-agnostic architecture**: Scout’s sensors and software integrate with a wide range of spacecraft and partner platforms, avoiding vertical lock-in. - **Focus on modular, scalable SDA**: Dedicated to being the trusted supplier of sensing and autonomy capabilities rather than building an entire satellite bus. - **Deep government relationships**: Proven track record with U.S. Space Force and national security missions. ## Strategic Focus - Accelerate deployment of sensor hardware and software capabilities. - Expand manufacturing capacity and presence in Northern Virginia near key mission partners. - Continue to win commercial and government contracts while delivering on existing mission commitments. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Mission-driven, lean, and fast-moving. “We value open debate, mutual respect, and getting things done—and we make time to enjoy the process.” - **Work policy**: Most roles listed as **Remote** (with Reston, VA as hub).
