We are growing through acquisition across the country, and we hire Controllers on an ongoing basis to lead accounting operations at our operating companies. Because our businesses vary in size and stage, the exact scope, team, and reporting line for a given Controller seat differ by location. This posting builds our national pipeline; when a specific opening matches your background, our recruiting team will reach out to discuss the particular business, market, and scope. ## The Role In-Person  ·  Multiple U.S. Locations Our Controllers own accounting operations for a single operating company: the financial close, payroll, internal and external reporting, the annual audit, and the financial analysis that informs operating decisions. Our companies are project-based, so revenue recognition, job costing, and cash discipline sit at the center of the work. ## What You'll Own - Close & reporting. Run the monthly close and continuously improve its speed and accuracy. - Project revenue. Calculate and manage revenue recognition for projects and inventory, including percentage-of-completion and work-in-process, in line with ASC 606. - Job costing. Own job costing and margin visibility, partnering with operations on how jobs are performing. - Analysis & forecasting. Prepare financial reports and forecasts covering EBITDA, cash flow, and the analysis that highlights where leadership should focus. - Accounting maturity. Where applicable, help move a business from cash to accrual accounting and ensure a clean data transition. - Transactional finance. Ensure accurate payroll, AR, AP, and expense processing, delegating and overseeing the team where one exists. - GAAP discipline. Apply and reinforce GAAP across the accounting function. ## What We're Looking For - Technical accounting experience, whether through public accounting, audit/assurance, or complex operational accounting. - Strong command of GAAP, including project revenue recognition (ASC 606), percentage-of-completion, and work-in-process accounting. - Experience across ERP and accounting platforms in a multi-entity or growing environment, with the ability to learn and work in new systems. Fluency in payroll and accounting tools (e.g., ADP-class payroll, mid-market ERPs) is valued. - Strong Excel and data-modeling skills (lookups, pivot tables, and comparable techniques). - Self-managing, well-organized, and a genuine self-starter who brings structure to ambiguity. - Clear written and verbal communication. Preferred: direct experience at a construction or project-based company (100–200 employees) with complex inventory considerations; prior experience supervising others; CPA. ## Why Cobalt - A high-growth, PE-backed platform where finance is close to the business and your work drives real operating decisions. - The chance to build and strengthen finance processes as we scale across a growing set of companies. - Competitive base salary and performance-based bonus, benchmarked to your market and the scope of the seat. - Full health benefits, 401(k) with match, paid time off, life and disability coverage, and professional development support. Cobalt Service Partners and its operating companies are equal opportunity employers. Employment is at-will. ## About Cobalt Service Partners ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Cobalt Service Partners is a permanent home for market-leading commercial access and security businesses, acquiring and supporting them while preserving their local brands and culture. - **Entity Type**: Private (backed by Alpine Investors) - **Headquarters**: New York, New York, United States - **Founded**: Not publicly available (likely founded in the 2020s) - **Founders**: Tyler Hoffman (Co-Founder & Co-CEO); another co-founder is not named on public sources. ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Facilities Services / Commercial Access & Security - **Target customers**: B2B – specifically owners of commercial access and security companies (door installation, access control, video surveillance) looking for a long-term acquisition partner; and their end customers (businesses needing commercial door and security services). - **Mission statement**: “Securing legacies, unlocking possibility.” ## Products & Services Cobalt Service Partners does not offer a single product to end users. Instead, it provides a platform for acquired companies via its "buy and build" model: - **Acquisition & Stewardship**: Buys market-leading commercial access and security businesses, keeping their local brands, leadership, and culture intact. - **Operational Support**: Provides hands-on help with recruiting (especially technicians, sales, leadership), training and professional development, finance and accounting, compliance, and technology implementation. - **People Development**: Offers access to learning programs, training hubs, and a national network of peers for employees of partner companies. - **Long-Term Home**: Positions itself as a permanent owner (not a flip or roll-up into a bureaucratic machine), allowing founders to exit while preserving their legacy. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not disclosed as a private company. - **Key Metric**: Headcount of 55 employees (as of mid-2026), with strong growth: +25.7% YoY. - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Backed by **Alpine Investors**, a values-driven investment firm. - **Growth Signals**: - Acquired at least three companies: **Automatic Entrances of Wisconsin** (Sep 2024), **Digi Security Systems** (Jun 2024), and **Piedmont Door Solutions** (date not specified). - Portfolio includes 16+ partner companies across the US (Toepfer Security, i-Tech Security, Homeland Safety Systems, etc.). - Rapid LinkedIn follower growth: +110.6% year-over-year, now at 10,850 followers. - Actively hiring with 22 open positions across finance, operations, M&A, and field technician roles. ## Competitive Advantages - **People-first stewardship**: Unlike typical private equity roll-ups that cut costs and centralize, Cobalt preserves local brands, leadership, and culture. - **Long-term ownership model**: Described as a “permanent home” for acquired businesses, not a flip. This builds trust with sellers who fear losing their legacy. - **Alpine Investors backing**: Access to capital, talent networks, and operational expertise from a well-known PE firm committed to "building enduring businesses by investing in and developing exceptional people." - **Niche focus**: Concentrates solely on commercial access and security, allowing deep domain expertise and targeted support. ## Strategic Focus - **Current priorities**: Scaling the portfolio through further acquisitions, building out operational infrastructure (recruiting, training, finance), and strengthening the network of partner companies. - **Direction for growth**: Expand geographic footprint and service offerings by acquiring more market-leading companies in the same space, while investing heavily in the development of their people and technology. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Emphasizes a "people-first" ethos, stewardship, and "love learning" values. The company aims to create fulfilling, long-term homes for employees. - **Growth Opportunities**: Employees at partner companies gain access to professional development programs and a national peer network. The company is actively growing (22 open roles), offering career advancement in a fast-scaling environment. - **Work Model**: Mix of on-site (field technicians, regional roles) and remote (corporate functions: FP&A, Integration Controller). Headquarters in NYC. - **Notable Perks**: Strong training culture, hands-on recruiting support, and a mission-driven focus on preserving the "blue-collar" roots of the business (named Cobalt to honor blue-collar workers). - **Engineering/Technical Roles**: Field technicians and sales engineers are in high demand; the company highlights support for these roles as a core strength. ## Sources 1.
