This role will report to the VP, Legal and have significant exposure to the General Counsel and senior leadership on important, high-impact matters. The Senior Counsel will take meaningful ownership of the day-to-day management and strategy of the company’s litigation docket and employment counseling, including advising on independent contractor compliance and related workforce issues, while also having the opportunity to work across a range of legal areas, including commercial contracting, product counseling, and other strategic initiatives that support a fast-moving, consumer-facing business. What You'll Do: Litigation Docket - Own the litigation docket (employment, commercial, and other matters) from intake through resolution - Direct outside counsel on strategy, discovery, motion practice, and settlement - Handle appropriate matters in-house Litigation Portfolio Strategy & Management - Take on strategic and operational management of the litigation function, ensuring matters are appropriately prioritized and resourced - Manage the function strategically: prioritization, outside counsel selection and performance, budgets, and reporting to senior leadership Employment Counseling & Gig Economy Workforce Matters - Counsel HR and Operations on the full range of employment matters: performance, investigations, terminations, wage-and-hour, accommodations - Become the company expert on independent contractor classification, gig economy workforce issues, and related policy Broader Legal Work (Generalist Growth Areas) - Support commercial contracting and other business agreements - Provide product and operational counseling on new initiatives and evolving business models - Take ownership of discrete projects in evolving areas of the business ## Who You Are - 4-6+ years of legal experience, including at least 2 years of hands-on litigation work (discovery, motion practice, outside counsel management) - Litigation experience from a firm, in-house, or government - Employment counseling experience is valued but not required - Experience with independent contractor, gig economy, or worker classification issues is a plus - Exposure to additional practice areas (e.g., commercial contracts, corporate, real estate, product, or regulatory) is a plus - JD from an accredited law school - Admitted and in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar - Hybrid position with 3 days in office at our Spring Garden HQ ## How You Work - Ownership mentality: you see issues, you handle them - Comfortable operating independently in a lean, fast-moving team - Hard hat and a lunch pail mentality; with ability to think like a GC - Strong judgment and the ability to translate legal risk into business decisions ## Compensation - Gopuff pays employees based on market pricing and pay may vary depending on your location.
