As we expand into powered-land and data center development in partnership with a major US landowner, we're looking for an experienced Data Center Development Advisor. You'll partner directly with our Head of Colo / Powered Land to vet sites, review design specs, and provide technical oversight across the development lifecycle. We're engaging on a project-by-project basis to start, but for the right person this can grow into a full-time role as our development pipeline scales. Our sites typically fall in the 2.5–100MW range. ## What you'll do - Vet prospective sites for data center suitability (power, cooling, connectivity, land constraints, permitting risk) - Review design specs, MEP plans, and construction documentation for feasibility and cost - Advise on facility layout, power density, and buildout economics across the 2.5–100MW range, including high-density GPU/AI deployments - Serve as a technical liaison between Shadeform, our landowner partner, and construction/engineering teams - Bring and leverage your network of construction, engineering, and GC contacts as needed ## What we're looking for - Direct experience managing or overseeing the development/construction of data center facilities, ideally across the sub-100MW range - Strong grasp of power infrastructure, cooling systems, and site selection criteria - Existing relationships across construction, MEP engineering, and general contracting - Comfort working independently and engaging on a flexible, per-project cadence - Bonus: experience with high-density / AI-GPU deployments, powered-land deals, or colo/hyperscale builds Engagement structure Independent contractor, project-based to start, with a clear path to full-time as the pipeline grows. Scope, deliverables, and compensation defined per engagement initially. Open to semi-retired DC development professionals wanting selective work, as well as those seeking a full-time home as we scale. ## About Shadeform ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Shadeform is a GPU cloud marketplace that provides a unified platform and API for AI and ML teams to access and manage GPU capacity across multiple cloud providers. - **Entity Type**: Private (Pre-Seed/Seed stage; total funding $500K) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, United States - **Founded**: 2023 - **Founders**: Ed Goode (CEO) and Ronald Ding (CTO) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Cloud infrastructure for AI/ML (GPU computing) - **Target customers**: B2B – AI startups, engineering teams, and enterprises that need reliable, on-demand GPU capacity for training and inference workloads. - **Mission or purpose statement**: To unify ML infrastructure across clouds so teams are never blocked by their current provider’s GPU capacity and features. ## Products & Services - **Shadeform Platform**: A single console and API that aggregates GPU availability and pricing from 30+ vetted providers across 100+ regions. Users can provision instances, deploy models for inference, receive availability notifications, configure auto-reservations, and manage all providers from one control plane. - **Unified API**: Generalized API to launch workloads on any provider without managing multiple cloud logins, quotas, or vendor integrations. ## Market Standing - **Valuation / Market Cap**: Not disclosed (private company) - **Key Metric**: Total fundraised: $500K (latest round: Seed VC; previously pre-seed) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Y Combinator (Summer 2023 batch), Unpopular Ventures, Translink Capital, Soma Capital, Charlotte Fund - **Growth Signals**: Small but growing team of 10-11 employees; active job postings (Founding Software Engineer, Chief of Staff, Founding Sales, Operations Specialist, Senior Marketer); LinkedIn follower growth +14.9% monthly; recent hires from top tech companies (Microsoft, AWS, Robinhood, Tesla, io.net). ## Competitive Advantages - **Multi-cloud abstraction**: Eliminates the friction of dealing with disparate provider interfaces, quotas, and support pipelines. - **Real-time availability & pricing data**: Ensures inference and training jobs run at optimal cost without manual comparison. - **Strong industry partnerships**: Vetted network of 30+ GPU cloud providers, enabling capacity that large hyperscalers cannot always offer. - **Founder expertise**: Previous experience building and operating critical cloud infrastructure at AWS, Azure, and scaling distributed systems at Robinhood. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling the platform**: Adding more providers and regions to expand capacity and geographic reach. - **Automation & self-service**: Enhancing auto-reservation, notifications, and one-click deployment to reduce manual overhead. - **Go-to-market expansion**: Hiring sales and marketing leadership to reach AI startups and enterprise teams struggling with GPU shortages. ## Why Work Here - **Impact**: Early-stage infrastructure startup where engineers and sales hires can directly shape the product and company direction. - **Remote-friendly**: Roles listed as San Francisco, CA / Remote (US) – flexible work arrangement. - **Culture**: Small, high-impact team working on hard infrastructure problems; YC-backed with a fast-paced, ownership-driven environment. - **Compensation**: Salary ranges posted ($100K-$190K for engineering, $125K-$300K for founding sales, plus equity likely included). - **Engineering focus**: Building distributed systems, cloud APIs, and orchestration tools – ideal for engineers who enjoy deep infrastructure challenges. ## Sources 1.
