Deadline to apply: 5pm ET on November 18, 2026 ## Who We Are The States Forum (TSF) was founded on the conviction that delivering for the American people requires more than good policy ideas. It requires good ideas based in a clear, coherent worldview that policymakers can articulate and Americans can aspire to. Most Americans want the same things: the freedom to control their own lives and a real path from effort to opportunity. But power over our economy, government, and culture is concentrated in too few hands, leaving a democracy that fails many Americans. TSF helps leaders deliver on what matters most to the people who elected them. TSF’s mission is to reinvigorate Americans’ trust in our democracy by producing and disseminating state-based ideas grounded in our nation’s founding ideals of political equality, universal rights, individual freedom, and true economic opportunity for everyone. TSF focuses on states because that’s where the government still works for Americans. We are building a network of thinkers, practitioners, and policymakers who generate ideas. We do this work through partnerships, policy accelerators, research, and convenings; and we publish written, graphic, and video content through our own channels. Position Details This is a full-time, exempt, at-will position. The team currently operates remotely, with occasional in-person team retreats, etc. Some travel will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position. The Opportunity The Digital Communications Senior Manager will build out TSF’s digital content and grow our presence on social media. Working with the leadership team, this role will create and manage content across TSF’s website, Substack, and social channels, with the goal of helping more people find and use TSF’s policy ideas. This position also turns policy briefs and research into accessible content for a range of audiences and supports the team with broader communications work, including press materials, media outreach, and event promotion. The successful candidate will be a strong writer with a sharp sense of what works online and an interest in joining a startup. They are comfortable building things from the ground up and can take a complex policy idea and make it short, clear, and shareable. They use data to learn what’s working and adjust. They are also organized, accountable to deadlines, and a fun person to work with. ## What You Will Do Principal activities will include but not be limited to: Writing, editing, and publishing content for TSF’s website, Substack, and other digital channels, including turning policy ideas into accessible formats like posts, graphics, explainers, and short videos. Building and growing TSF’s social media presence, including setting the platform strategy and engaging with followers, partners, and others in the state policy space. Supporting TSF’s communications work, from press materials and media outreach to event promotion and consistent messaging and branding. ## Responsibilities Content - Turn policy briefs and ideas into shorter, more accessible pieces such as posts, graphics, explainers, and short videos. - Keep a content calendar and coordinate timing with the policy and partnerships teams. - Keep the website current and easy to navigate. Communications and media - Help draft press releases and other communications materials. - Pitch podcasts, Substacks, and other digital-first media. - Support communications around TSF events, including promotion beforehand and recaps afterward. - Support media outreach and track coverage of TSF’s work. - Help keep TSF’s messaging and branding consistent across materials. ## Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public policy, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience - 4–7 years of relevant professional experience in digital communications, social media, or content creation - Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to make policy topics interesting to a general audience - Experience growing social media accounts and using analytics to guide decisions - Working knowledge of tools like Canva or Adobe, social scheduling platforms, website content management systems, and email or newsletter platforms - Capable of independently managing time and tasks associated with a fast-paced organization, including juggling several projects with competing deadlines - Clear communication skills Desired Qualifications - Expert-level skill in creating short-form, social-first content, including graphics and short video - Experience in a nonprofit, policy, political, or advocacy setting - Experience with pitching podcasts, newsletters, or other digital-first media - Interest in state policy and government; familiarity with the state policy space What You Can Expect During the Recruitment and Hiring Process: All applicants will submit a resume and cover letter. Operates as a mission-driven advocacy organization rather than B2B/B2C. - **Mission or purpose statement**: "The States Project connects the importance of state legislatures to every aspect of our lives and brings together communities to help build a healthy, sustainable, and prosperous future for all." Future Now operates as an umbrella organization pursuing three related activities: **The States Project** (electoral work to win governing majorities in state legislatures), **The Lawmaker Network** (nonpartisan tools and resources for state lawmakers), and **PAC for America's Future** (formerly Future Now Fund, a political action committee). ## Products & Services - **The States Project**: Electoral program focused on making state legislative campaigns more effective and better-funded. As of 2022, targets eight states: Arizona, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. The PAC spent $18.7 million on these efforts between 2018 and 2022. - **The Lawmaker Network**: Nonpartisan policy support program that connects a diverse community of state lawmakers, supporting left-of-center policy priorities such as the $15 minimum wage, union expansion, and government-run health care. - **PAC for America's Future**: Political action committee that funds state-level Democratic candidates aligned with Future Now's agenda. - **The States Forum**: Related initiative under the Future Now family aimed at convening lawmakers and stakeholders. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed (nonprofit entity) - **Key Metric**: FY2024 (fiscal year ending June 2024) revenue was **$19,504,088** with net assets of $10,062,942. The organization has physical offices in Washington, DC and Brooklyn, NY. - **Employee ratings**: 3.9/5.0 on LinkedIn (14 reviews) — compensation scores relatively high at 3.8, while culture (3.0) and work-life balance (3.3) are areas with room for improvement. Career development scores 3.3. - **Lean, senior-heavy team**: The team skews senior (15% manager, 15% senior, 10% C-Level, 10% Director), offering the opportunity for high ownership and impact in a small organization. Talent sources include notable progressive organizations (Climate Power, Harris for President, Alzheimer's Association). - **Cross-functional exposure**: Departments include Project Management (30%), General Management (25%), Legal (10%), Marketing (10%), Finance, and Administration — relatively flat structure for broad exposure. - **Transparent compensation**: Nonprofit filings disclose executive compensation publicly (e.g., COO $158,397, General Counsel $158,397, Chief Strategy Officer $147,548 in FY2024), consistent with nonprofit transparency norms. ## Sources 1.
