Currently, this portfolio includes: the Mozilla Foundation, which champions our mission through philanthropic risk capital; Mozilla Corporation, which makes Firefox; MZLA, which makes Thunderbird; Mozilla Ventures, which invests in responsible tech startups; Mozilla.ai, which creates open source AI developer tools; Mozilla Data Collective, a data sharing platform for human agency and fair value exchange. It also includes a handful of smaller strategic investments and Mozilla's investment reserve. Mozilla.org serves as a steward of this portfolio, managing Mozilla's assets and investments to ensure they are used to advance the vision outlined in the Mozilla Manifesto. In this role, it shapes long term strategy, allocates funding and manages Mozilla’s brands. Ultimately, its job is to enable the success of all of Mozilla’s organizations in the pursuit of the overall nonprofit mission.  Over the coming years, our ambition is to actively grow the portfolio—helping existing organizations grow and mature while creating or investing in new organizations that can extend Mozilla’s reach and build long-term financial value. ## About the Role As a part of the Mozilla.org team,  the Director, Portfolio Management sits at the intersection of portfolio planning, governance, performance management, and cross-organizational execution. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role for an operator who can bring structure to complexity, translate portfolio priorities into clear plans and processes, and ensure leaders across Mozilla have the information, forums, and operating rhythms needed to make effective decisions. The role reports directly to Mozilla’s COO and, along with everyone on the Mozilla.org team, is housed within the Mozilla Management Company. ## Key Responsibilities Portfolio Planning & Performance - Lead the portfolio planning process, integrating organizational strategies, operating plans, capital requirements and portfolio-level priorities. This includes double bottom line goal setting and capital allocation across Mozilla’s portfolio organizations. - Develop and maintain the information architecture for portfolio management, including portfolio-level dashboards, scorecards, and reporting that provide visibility into organizational priorities, performance, risks, and dependencies. - Partner with Finance and operating organization leaders to connect strategic priorities, operating plans, and resource allocation. - Develop comparative analyses, benchmarks and portfolio insights. Identify trends, opportunities and areas requiring management attention. - Synthesize information across the portfolio into clear insights, recommendations, and decision points for Mozilla.org leadership. Portfolio Governance & Operating Model - Maintain and evolve operating frameworks, decision rights, authority matrices, and playbooks that clarify how Mozilla.org, and portfolio organizations work together. - Serve as a systems thinker — constantly looking to optimize the interface between strategic ambition and operational muscle. - Coordinate portfolio governance processes and help prepare materials for leadership and Board discussions. - Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve decision-making, and reduce unnecessary coordination across organizations. Cross-Portfolio Execution - Lead or coordinate high-priority initiatives that span multiple Mozilla organizations. - Translate Mozilla.org portfolio priorities into clear workstreams, owners, milestones, dependencies, and delivery cadences. - Surface risks and execution gaps early and work with leaders across the portfolio to resolve them. - Build lightweight processes that create accountability without adding unnecessary bureaucracy. Leadership & Decision Support - Serve as a strategic and operational partner to the COO and broader Mozilla.org leadership team. - Design and facilitate portfolio-level operating forums and working sessions. - Build trusted relationships across Mozilla’s portfolio organizations and influence effectively without relying on direct authority. ## What You Bring - 10+ years of experience in a multi-entity holding company or an investment management, private equity, venture capital, or development finance organization. - Direct prior experience in a portfolio-level role, along with experience in strategy, business operations, portfolio operations, strategic program management, or related roles. - A strong connection to Mozilla’s mission and an interest in helping build an organizational model that combines mission impact with strong operational and business discipline. - Familiarity with Board governance and capital allocation processes strongly preferred. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations and actions. - Expertise in managing qualitative and quantitative metrics tracking, dashboards, and systems thinking. - Experience leading significant cross-functional initiatives involving senior stakeholders. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level materials. - Strong judgment and discretion when working with sensitive organizational and leadership topics. - Ability to operate effectively in environments with distributed decision-making and significant stakeholder complexity. What Success Looks Like You help Mozilla.org provide an effective management and coordination layer across the Mozilla portfolio. Leaders across Mozilla understand priorities, decision rights, performance, and dependencies; portfolio-level decisions are supported by useful data and analysis; and important cross-organizational initiatives move from strategy into execution with clear ownership and accountability. Ultimately, your work helps Mozilla.org more effectively steward its organizations, resources, and mission over the long term. The Target Annual Base Salary and Pay Range for this role is between $240,000-$280,000 USD. Additionally, this role is eligible for an Annual Bonus.
