Our goal is to build AI systems that reflect how AEC work is actually done in practice - grounded in real workflows, real constraints, and real project complexity. ## About the Role We’re launching a Domain Experts in Residence (DEIR) program to embed experienced AEC practitioners directly into how our AI agents and workflows are designed, evaluated, and shipped. This is not a traditional advisory role. As a Domain Expert in Residence, you’ll be hands-on in defining real-world AEC tasks, building datasets, and shaping evaluation criteria that determine how our agents perform across the project lifecycle. This role is ideal for practitioners who want to shape the future of tools used by their profession. ## What You’ll Do - Define real-world AEC task specifications for AI agents (e.g., drawing reviews, code compliance, RFIs, submittals, spec review, QA/QC, coordination) - Create and label gold-standard datasets from real project artifacts (drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals) - Design evaluation rubrics for agent outputs (severity, discipline, correctness, usefulness) - Co-design default workflows that ship to customers - Pressure-test agents against real-world project scenarios and common failure modes - Partner closely with product, ML, and engineering teams to translate domain practice into scalable AI systems ## Who You Are 6+ years of professional experience in one or more of: - Architecture - Structural Engineering - MEP Engineering - Construction / Project Management - QA/QC or Code Compliance - Deep familiarity with real AEC workflows and project deliverables - Comfortable articulating how work is actually done in practice - Curious about AI tools and automation (no ML background required) - Motivated to shape the future of AEC tooling ## Nice to Have - Experience with QA/QC processes or design reviews - Familiarity with building codes (IBC, ADA, NFPA, local codes) - Experience writing standards, checklists, or internal review frameworks - Interest in product development ## Why This Role Is Different - You’ll help define how AI supports real AEC workflows - Your expertise will directly shape products used by real firms - You’ll work closely with product and ML teams - You’ll influence the next generation of tools for your profession ## Compensation - Competitive compensation based on experience - Equity for full-time roles - Flexible part-time options for specialists ## About Nomic ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Nomic is a domain-specific AI platform that transforms unstructured data into AI-ready knowledge for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A, $17M total funding) - **Headquarters**: New York, New York, United States - **Founded**: 2022 - **Founders**: Andriy Mulyar (CEO) and Ben Schmidt (CTO) ## Core Business - Primary industry: Artificial Intelligence for AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) - Target customers: B2B – architecture firms, engineering consultancies, general contractors, specialty contractors, project managers, design teams - Mission: "Accelerating the design and construction of the built world through AI." ## Products & Services - **Nomic Platform**: AI agents that automate AEC workflows—RFP responses, QA/QC reviews, code compliance, document parsing, and intelligent search across drawings, specs, and project data. SaaS platform. - **Developer API**: RESTful APIs (nomic-embed-text, nomic-embed-vision, drawing parse) with Python and JavaScript SDKs. Trained on 100,000s of drawings and project files. Supports PDFs, images, CAD files, and more. - **GPT4All**: Open-source tool to run AI models locally on any device with no cloud connection required. Cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux). Focus on privacy and offline inference. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed (private company) - **Key Metric**: Total Funding $17M (Series A, July 2023, led by Coatue with 12 investors); Estimated annual revenue ~$1M per LinkedIn - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Coatue (lead), 12 investors; Partnership details not publicly listed - **Growth Signals**: Headcount of 16 (+10% YoY; +4.8% monthly); LinkedIn followers 8,022 (+30% YoY); Active hiring for Senior Software Engineer, Senior Platform Engineer, Account Executive (APAC), Customer Success Manager, and Growth Engineer ## Competitive Advantages - Domain-specific AI models trained exclusively on AEC content (100,000s of drawings and project files) – reduces hallucinations common in generic AI. - Zero data retention policy; legally binding agreements with external providers; flexible deployment (cloud, on-premise, hybrid, private cloud) – strong data security and privacy. - GPT4All open-source project builds brand credibility in the AI developer community and enables privacy-first local inference. - Focus on institutional knowledge capture for AEC firms, turning scattered documents into AI-ready, actionable insights. ## Strategic Focus - Expand domain-aware AI agents to automate critical AEC workflows (submittal reviews, code compliance, RFPs). - Grow international sales presence (APAC region hiring). - Deepen developer platform with more API capabilities and SDKs. - Publish research (white papers, academic publications) to establish thought leadership in AEC AI. ## Why Work Here - Early-stage startup (16 employees, Series A) offering significant ownership and impact across engineering, product, and go-to-market. - Hybrid work model based in New York, NY (most roles listed as Hybrid). - Cutting-edge AI research environment with open-source contributions (GPT4All, research publications). - Strong security-first culture; engineers work on infrastructure for autonomous agents, compliance, and data governance. - Diverse distributed team (USA, Canada, Ukraine) with a collaborative, mission-driven atmosphere. ## Sources 1.
