Special Instructions to Applicants: Shortlisted internal candidates must notify the current Support Staff Bargaining Chairperson and People Services if they want a Union Observer during interviews and final selection of candidates. ## Your Opportunity Under the limited supervision of the Manager, Buildings & Projects, the Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintenance and repair services to buildings, student residence, furniture, equipment, and grounds including carpentry, painting, plumbing, irrigation and sanitation needs. This position is also responsible for the testing of emergency showers and eyewash/deluge stations to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Functions and Duties 1. Maintains and repairs buildings, student residences, interior and exterior surfaces, and components 2. Installs, maintains and makes minor repairs to furnishings and equipment 3. Maintains and repairs plumbing, irrigation and sanitation systems 4. Maintains and repairs grounds facility, parking lots, signs, etc. 5. Responsible for documenting, testing and repairing the emergency showers and eyewash stations at all campuses and leased locations 6. Paints classrooms, hallways, offices, washrooms etc. (including prepping areas for painting, tape, mud, drywall etc.) 7. Works with Custodians to assemble and install furniture and equipment, including relocation or rearranging as necessary; completes minor maintenance related to College grounds, parking lots, signs, including pickup of strewn garbage as needed; snow removal of steps, walkways, etc. 8. Ensures fire and occupational health and safety practices are followed (e.g. exits are not blocked) 9. Makes recommendations on maintenance requirements 10. Carries out removal of snow from College grounds 11. Assists other trades as required 12. Performs other related duties as required Education and Experience Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent plus up to and including one-year post-secondary trades’ related training. A minimum of 2 years’ related experience in facility maintenance is required.  Experience in facility maintenance may include experience in any or all of the following areas: - Building maintenance; - Equipment maintenance; - Grounds maintenance; - Carpentry; - Painting; - Plumbing; - Irrigation; and - Sanitation.
