We do this through an AI-powered operator that routes, triages, and resolves calls without the need for human intervention. Our mission is to help 911 operators focus their time and energy on emergencies by automating repetitive tasks. We serve emergency communication centers (ECCs) across the entire US, including Snohomish County, WA and Hamilton County, TN. Nationwide, ECC is 30% understaffed. Staffing shortages have lead to call-taker burnout and attrition, which is exacerbating the problem even more. Post COVID, wait times for 9-1-1 calls have reached a boiling point; imagine, in the most stressful situation of your life, waiting on hold for over a minute. But what’s most shocking is 60-80% of the calls 9-1-1 operators take aren’t even emergencies. They’re administrative calls that have been punted to ECCs: noise complaints, lost dogs, paying parking tickets, etc. That’s where we come in. Type: AI Agent / Managed Service - **[CORA]**: A real-time, context-aware on-screen assistant that provides SOP checklists, smart reminders, and guidance to telecommunicators during emergency calls. It does not take control of the call but acts as a live decision-support tool. Type: AI Assistant / SaaS ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total Funding raised (seed/series A undisclosed amount from NEA and Y Combinator); Live in centers across the US answering thousands of calls daily; 60-80% of incoming 911 calls are non-emergencies, creating a large addressable market. - **Notable Investors/Partners**: New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Y Combinator (Summer 2022 batch) - **Growth Signals**: Rapid headcount growth (5.7% monthly increase, currently ~38-45 employees); Pivot from salon tech to public safety based on a real-world pain point; "Fully managed service" model with 6-week go-live timelines indicates strong product-market fit and adoption velocity. ## Competitive Advantages - **Purpose-built for PSAPs**: Unlike generic voice AI, Aurelian is designed specifically for the workflows, SOPs, and legacy systems (CAD/phone) of emergency communications centers. - **Dual Product Moat**: AVA handles non-emergency calls autonomously, while CORA supports the human during emergencies. When AVA detects an emergency mid-call, it seamlessly transfers context (location, incident type, key statements) directly into CORA for the call-taker. - **Deep Integration**: Fits alongside existing CAD and phone systems without requiring a rip-and-replace, lowering adoption friction for government buyers. - **Managed Service Model**: Aurelian handles configuration, integration, training, and ongoing support as a fully managed service, reducing the burden on understaffed PSAP IT teams. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling Deployments**: Moving from pilot centers toward broader national rollout across the US. - **Reducing Telecommunicator Burnout**: Addressing the 30% staffing shortage in ECCs by both reducing non-emergency call volume and making emergency calls easier to manage. - **Continuous Product Evolution**: Building a configurable platform that adapts to each center's specific SOPs and prepares PSAPs for future challenges. ## Why Work Here - **High-Impact Mission**: Your work directly supports public safety and helps save lives by ensuring 911 call-takers can focus on real emergencies. - **Culture Values**: "Care deeply," "Deliver results," and "Speed over perfection." The team emphasizes shipping quickly and owning outcomes. - **In-Person Collaboration**: While not fully remote, the team shares a headquarters in Seattle with strong in-person rituals. - **Notable Perks**: Free office lunch every day (shared meal culture), annual team offsites, 401(k) plan, relocation stipend, unlimited PTO, and comprehensive medical/dental/vision insurance. - **Founding Team**: Max Keenan and James pivoted from a prior startup after witnessing a 45-minute wait on a non-emergency line; they bring a mission-driven, empathetic approach to building for first responders. - **Growing Engineering Team**: Head of Engineering (Trevor Shibley) leads a technical team that is actively hiring. Previous talent has come from Google, AWS, Microsoft, and other top-tier tech companies. ## Sources 1. [aurelian.com](https://www.aurelian.com/) 2.
