It acts as a desktop assistant that takes in screen, mic, and audio context to give you information and suggestions that existing model providers cannot, due to a lack of context. We can make anything viral ## About the Role We work six days a week in-person in San Francisco, 10-12 hours a day. You are expected to live within a block of the office (housing provided). The entire codebase is strictly typed (no ts-ignore or anys). We use Bun, Elysia https://elysiajs.com, and strictly typed routes. You might be a good fit if you are: - One of the best engineers in the world - Strong fullstack engineer (React/Electron/Infra experience) - You should know how to efficiently fetch and cache data in a React application - You should know how to design and structure database schemas that optimize read and write performance - You should be comfortable deploying and scaling applications and be able to weigh pros and cons of different infra/devops solutions - I will sanity check all of the above in an interview with you - Down to gamble your life into greatness Compensation: - Founding engineers get anywhere from $250k-$350k base + 0.25-0.5% equity - We also offer free food ## About Cluely ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Cluely is a desktop application that provides real-time AI assistance during virtual meetings, generating notes, answers, and next steps without joining as a bot or appearing on shared screens. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A) - **Headquarters**: New York, New York, United States - **Founded**: 2025 (April 20, 2025) - **Founders**: Chungin “Roy” Lee, Neel Shanmugam, Alex Chen ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Artificial intelligence / AI meeting assistant software - **Target customers**: B2B professionals and individual users who attend frequent virtual meetings (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.) - **Mission statement**: Not explicitly listed, but the product positions itself as “the #1 undetectable AI for meetings” and aims to help users “be the most prepared person on every call.” ## Products & Services - **Cluely Desktop App**: A real-time AI meeting assistant that listens to meeting audio, transcribes with 95% accuracy, and provides instant answers, notes, and action items. It uses an overlay that is invisible to screen sharing and never joins the meeting as a participant. Supports 12+ languages. Available via subscription (e.g., $20/month per seat). ## Market Standing - **Valuation / Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of **$20.3M** (Seed $5.3M + Series A $15M). Claimed annual recurring revenue of **$5.2M** (per founder screenshots, though an earlier $7M claim was later admitted as false). - **Notable Investors**: Andreessen Horowitz (led Series A), Abstract Ventures (co-led Seed), Susa Ventures (co-led Seed). - **Growth Signals**: 70,000 user signups in the first week after launch; headcount grew to ~24 employees (LinkedIn) with 1,700% YoY growth; operations in 7 countries; monthly website traffic of ~752,000 visits. ## Competitive Advantages - **Undetectability**: The app never appears in shared screens, recordings, or meeting participant lists, making it discreet for user-facing use. - **Speed**: Real-time transcription with a claimed response time of ~300ms, faster than many competitors. - **Compatibility**: Works with all major meeting platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex, Slack) without requiring integration. - **Privacy**: Does not join meetings as a bot; user’s own audio is processed locally or via cloud. ## Strategic Focus - Pivoted from an initial controversial “cheat on everything” marketing campaign toward positioning as a legitimate AI meeting assistant competing with tools like Otter.ai. - Focus on enterprise adoption and reliability, with improvements to product accuracy and latency since launch. ## Why Work Here - Fast-growing startup (24 employees, 1,700% YoY headcount growth) with significant venture backing (a16z, etc.). - Engineering-heavy culture with a tech stack including TypeScript, React, Swift, Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenAI. - Controversial but high-profile founding story (founders suspended from Columbia over Interview Coder tool) gives the company a “rebellious” brand. - Roles span marketing, engineering, design, and customer experience; key executives include a CEO/Co-Founder (Roy Lee), COO (Neel Shanmugam), and CTO (Alex Chen). - Headquarters in New York City; office presence likely (previously San Francisco but moved to NYC). ## Sources 1.
