Our ambition is to help solve the housing crisis and bring beauty back to the places we live. We are developing robots that can make intricate, high-quality construction affordable at scale. We are hiring our founding Robot Operators in the United States, starting with our first pilot in San Antonio, Texas. You will help bring a system already used on sites in the Netherlands and the UK to a new market. As one of our first US operators, you will help establish how we work on site and give our engineering team direct feedback from the field. ## About the role This is hands-on construction work with robots. You will move bricks and mortar, keep the robots supplied, set up equipment and clean the site. You will also operate the robots using Atrium, our in-house software, and work with our engineers when something needs fixing. No previous robotics or construction experience is required. We are looking for practical people with technical intuition, an eye for detail and the initiative to solve problems. We will train you to operate our systems. This is a full-time role. Training starts at our headquarters in Amsterdam, with costs covered by Monumental. Our operators come from construction, retail, hospitality, events, farms, workshops and engineering. What they share is a preference for working with their hands and seeing the things they build. ## What you will do - Prepare construction projects: understand the build plan and assess site conditions. - Place markers and take photos for 3D reconstruction. - Set up and operate masonry robots using a laptop and our software. - Carry and load bricks and mortar, move equipment and keep the work area safe and tidy. - Help with site tasks such as cutting bricks, setting wall ties and pointing walls. - Troubleshoot with our engineering and operations teams. - Record problems and improvements so our engineers can develop the hardware and software. - Work with the contractors and trades around you as the face of Monumental on site. ## What we are looking for - A practical, technical mindset and a willingness to learn. - Comfort with physical work outdoors, early starts and changing site conditions. - Attention to detail: the quality of the finished wall matters. - Initiative when something does not go to plan. - A valid driver’s license and comfort driving to construction sites. - Good spoken and written English for working with our team. - Construction, maintenance or other hands-on experience is useful, but not required. Location This is an on-site role. Our first demo site and pilots will be in San Antonio, Texas. Our main US office will be set up in Austin, Texas. You need to be able to work on construction sites in the San Antonio area. This is not a remote role. Why Monumental? You will be part of the team bringing our robots to US construction sites for the first time. The work combines physical building, technical problem-solving and direct collaboration with the people developing the robots. Your feedback will help shape the next deployment. If you do not meet every line above but enjoy building things and solving practical problems, we would still like to hear from you. ## About Monumental ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Automating on-site construction using a vertically integrated suite of autonomous robots controlled by software and machine vision. - **Entity Type**: Private ($25M total funding) - **Headquarters**: Amsterdam, Netherlands (Plantage area, near Artis zoo) - **Founded**: 2021 - **Founders**: Salar and Sebas (full names not publicly disclosed) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Construction robotics / autonomous construction - **Target customers**: B2B – construction companies (currently deploying on real sites in the Netherlands) - **Mission**: To make construction primarily software-defined and autonomous, working toward a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings can be built within a single day with minimal labor. ## Products & Services - **Autonomous electric construction robots**: A suite of robots that perform on-site masonry (building facades, canal retaining walls, etc.). The system is vertically integrated – Monumental designs its own hardware, control software, and machine vision pipeline. Robots are treated as a distributed computing system, using Intel NUCs, Nvidia GPUs, RP2040s, and Power over Ethernet instead of traditional industrial PLCs or CAN bus. ## Market Standing - **Valuation / Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding raised – **$25M** (date not specified, but recent) - **Notable Investors**: Plural, Hummingbird, Northzone, Foundamental, NP-Hard - **Growth Signals**: - Robots are already deployed on real construction sites in the Netherlands for paying customers. - Team size ~70 people (20 R&D, 30 deployment, 10 workshop, 10 operations/BD/founders). Split indicates scaling deployment operations. - Expanding into the UK market (posting for a Founding Robot Operator, UK). ## Competitive Advantages - **Vertical integration**: Full ownership of the stack from microcontroller code to robot assembly and control, enabling rapid, weekly iterations on both hardware and software. - **Modern tech stack**: Control software in Rust, simulation and digital twin in TypeScript with Rust compiled to WebAssembly, machine learning in Python. This contrasts with the industry’s typical PLC/CAN‑bus approach. - **Rapid prototyping culture**: Hardware is prototyped in-house (CNC, 3D printing, turning), allowing fast derisking and iteration. - **Product‑outcome focus**: The team measures success in finished walls and building components, not just robot uptime. ## Strategic Focus - **Incremental, achievable goals** in a traditionally change-resistant industry: start with small wins (facades, retaining walls) and scale. - **Expand geographic footprint** (UK already targeted) and increase the number of robot operators and deployment teams. - **Continue to iterate on hardware/software weekly** while maintaining a pragmatic, outcome‑oriented engineering culture. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Office‑first, 5 days a week in the Amsterdam city‑center office (hybrid/remote not supported). The environment is fast‑paced, high‑ambiguity, and highly collaborative. - **Engineering**: Work on a vertically integrated stack – Rust, TypeScript, WebAssembly, Python, embedded C, hardware design – with weekly shipping cycles. Engineers have outsized impact, owning projects end‑to‑end. - **Team**: ~70 people from diverse backgrounds (Palantir, Tesla, Qualcomm, Dyson, Meta, Shopify). Many are repeat founders; previous robotics experience is not required – learning fast is valued. - **Perks**: Competitive salary + generous equity; beautiful office opposite Artis zoo with in‑house workshop and robot testing facility; visa sponsorship and relocation assistance for highly skilled migrants. - **Impact**: Build physical products that affect the built environment, with the mission of making affordable, beautiful housing a reality. ## Sources 1.
