Modo Energy is the data platform at the centre of it. We build the benchmarking, forecasting, and valuation tools that the world's most serious energy investors, developers, and operators depend on to make decisions. If a battery gets financed, built, or traded anywhere in the world, there's a good chance Modo data was in the room. Founded in 2019, we're 90+ people across London, New York, Sydney, and Madrid; $30M Series B, AI-native, and moving fast. This is a rare chance to join a category-defining company at the moment it's scaling globally. ## The Role Modo Energy's engineering team builds the systems behind the Modo Terminal, the data, research, and agentic platform that energy market professionals rely on every day. We're growing fast, and our ambitions are growing faster: from a data and research product to an agentic layer that lets users work with our domain knowledge through natural language and AI-assisted tools. We're hiring frontend engineers to join one of our product teams: Terminal, Data, Ko (our AI Analyst), or Modelling. Each team owns a business capability end-to-end, including its own frontend, backend, and infrastructure, and every team ships to production independently, without centralized approval. Wherever you land, you'll help shape a shared TypeScript, React, and Next.js codebase in a monorepo built for rapid, AI-assisted development, and you'll build against a company-wide design system so what you ship stays consistent with the rest of the product. We're looking for engineers who learn fast and go wide. You won't be boxed into pixel-pushing; the best people on our teams move fluidly between component architecture, performance work, and the backend or infrastructure basics behind the features they build. If you're the kind of engineer who picks up a new tool, library, or part of the stack without needing much of a runway, this is built for you. ## What You'll Do - Help shape the technical direction of our frontend monorepo so it scales with the team and the product. - Design and build components in our internal UI library, built on MUI, that the rest of the team can build on. - Build and improve high-performance, low-latency interfaces that hold up under real, live market data. - Write well-tested code (Jest, Cypress, or Playwright) and contribute to how the team reviews and documents its work. - Split your time between shipping new features and keeping things healthy: maintenance, performance, and production issues are a normal, expected part of the job, not an interruption to it. - Work directly with design and with the people who understand the domain (energy analysts, data scientists) to bridge the gap between design and engineering. - Cross into the backend and infrastructure basics behind your own features when the team needs it: an API change, a deployment fix, a bit of the pipeline behind the data you're rendering. ## What We're Looking For The Essentials - 3+ years of professional frontend development experience, with excellent TypeScript, React, and Next.js. - Experience with MUI or a similar component library. - Solid testing practice with frameworks like Jest and Cypress or Playwright. - Proficient with Git, Docker, and CI/CD workflows, and familiar with monorepo structures and tools (Turborepo, Yarn Workspaces, or similar). - Fluent with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar). We write a lot of code this way. - An eye for design (UI/UX): you can build polished, aesthetically pleasing interfaces, not just functional ones. - A fast learner with good judgement, comfortable making calls on component design and what's good enough to ship, and genuinely energized by picking up unfamiliar tools, stacks, or problem areas rather than staying in one lane. - Comfortable in a small, fast-moving team where you're expected to figure things out, make trade-offs, and ship, with real autonomy over how. ## Nice to have - Start-up or scale-up experience. - Familiarity with Python. - Experience with energy markets. ## Equal Opportunity Modo Energy is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made on the basis of qualifications, merit, and business need. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, or any other characteristic protected by law. If you require assistance or a reasonable accommodation during the application or interview process, please contact us at careers@modoenergy.com. ## What You Can Expect From Us At Modo Energy, we believe that exceptional work deserves exceptional reward. We're a high-performance team; ambitious, collaborative, and genuinely motivated by the scale of what we're trying to build. You'll have real ownership from day one, work alongside some of the brightest people in the industry, and be part of a company that's defining a new category in the global energy market. We're hybrid: everyone works Tuesday to Thursday in office, with Monday and Friday flexible. We offer top-of-market compensation, equity for every employee, and the space to take your career wherever you want it to go. We're looking for people who want to do the best work of their careers. If that's you, we want to talk. ## About Modo Energy ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Modo Energy provides AI-native, investment-grade intelligence for teams building, financing, and operating energy assets, including regulated benchmarks and bankable forecasts for the energy transition. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series B, $54.4M total funding) - **Headquarters**: London, United Kingdom (offices also in New York, Madrid, and Sydney) - **Founded**: 2019 - **Founders**: The co-founders include Tim Overton (Director) and other founders not fully listed publicly. ## Core Business - **Primary Industry**: Energy Market Intelligence, Renewable Energy Services, Financial Benchmarking - **Target Customers**: B2B — asset managers, structured finance teams, asset developers, optimization & trading teams, and other investors/lenders in the energy space. - **Mission/Purpose**: "Building the global standard for understanding and valuing the $20 trillion of new energy assets." ## Products & Services - **Ko (AI Analyst)**: The company’s primary product.
