The traditional model where engineers manually write every feature is being replaced by agentic systems that design, generate, test, and ship software continuously. At Vori, we’re not building traditional software. We’re building the modern operating system for grocery, and the next phase of that platform is agentic infrastructure. Systems of AI agents that help retailers run their stores and help our own engineering teams ship faster. Our long-term vision is the self-driving store: an operating system where intelligent agents continuously optimize pricing, inventory, merchandising, and operations. To build that future, we also need to transform how software itself is created. That means evolving from a company that ships features to a company that orchestrates agents that ship features. Every engineer at Vori is now an AI Product Engineer: - Designing agent workflows - Building context systems and knowledge layers - Creating feedback loops that improve automatically - Shipping products where AI is a core part of the system You’ll work across product, design, and infrastructure to turn ideas into production AI systems that retailers rely on every day. ## What you’ll do Design and ship agentic product systems, not just software features. Partner with product managers, designers, and customers to identify problems where AI agents can meaningfully improve workflows. Design and implement agent architectures including reasoning, planning, tool use, and feedback loops. Build the infrastructure that powers AI systems including: - orchestration frameworks - context pipelines - evaluation frameworks - knowledge systems - event-driven architectures Work across the full stack from backend orchestration and data pipelines to user-facing interfaces that make AI systems understandable and trustworthy. Ship fast prototypes, run experiments, and turn promising ideas into production systems used by retailers at scale. Continuously integrate emerging AI capabilities and tools to increase both product intelligence and engineering velocity. Improve how Vori builds software by helping the organization adopt agentic development workflows including AI-assisted coding, testing, debugging, and design. Contribute to the evolution of Vori’s agentic development platform including infrastructure, tooling, and internal standards. ## What we’re looking for You are an engineer who wants to build AI-native products, not bolt AI onto existing systems. 3–8+ years building production software systems. Strong ability to build across the stack including backend services, data pipelines, and user-facing applications. Experience working with or deep interest in technologies such as: - LLM APIs - agent frameworks and orchestration systems - vector search and retrieval systems - evaluation and feedback pipelines - event-driven systems You think in systems, not just endpoints. You move quickly from idea → prototype → production. You care deeply about customer outcomes, not just technical novelty. You’re excited about shaping how teams build in an AI-native engineering organization. You have a maker’s mindset: you thrive on prototyping, iterating quickly, and owning features from zero → one → scale. ## Why Vori - Mission-driven team building tech that helps local businesses thrive - Backed by top investors and advisors from Stripe, Uber, Palantir, and Toast - Real revenue, real growth, and a massive market opportunity ## About Vori ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Vori provides a modern, AI-powered operating system (POS, inventory, ordering, pricing, loyalty) for independent and regional grocery stores. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series unknown, $32.3M total funding) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, United States - **Founded**: 2019 (initial iOS app built in 12 days) - **Founders**: Brandon Hill, Tre Kirkman, Robert Pinkerton ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Grocery technology / retail operations software - **Target customers**: Independent and regional grocery stores (small and mid-sized supermarkets) - **Mission or purpose**: "Changing the way food moves, from silo to shelf" – democratizing food supply access, reducing food waste, and empowering local entrepreneurs ## Products & Services - **VoriOS**: The core operating system that combines point-of-sale, inventory management, ordering, pricing, shopper engagement, and reporting into one platform. - **Point of Sale (POS)**: Modern lane checkout supporting scales, type-2 UPCs, split tenders, EBT, and eWIC. - **Inventory Management**: Real-time tracking of counts, shrink, and movement; automated reordering based on stock levels. - **Pricing Automation**: AI-driven margin protection that catches cost changes and adjusts prices automatically before checkout. - **Shopper Engagement / Loyalty**: Enroll shoppers at checkout, send targeted SMS offers, and track basket lift and order counts. - **Vori AI Agents**: Autonomous agents (Inventory Agent, Pricing Agent, Marketing Agent) that monitor operations and take actions based on predefined rules. - **Reporting & Insights**: Unified dashboard for sales, margin, inventory, and loyalty performance. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Annual revenue of $4.0M (estimated); Total funding of $32.3M across 4 rounds - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Y Combinator (Winter 2020 batch, primary partner Aaron Epstein); also referenced as backed by "Stanford engineers from SpaceX, Google, and Facebook" (implied institutional and angel investors) - **Growth Signals**: Headcount of 49 employees (+119.4% YoY); LinkedIn followers 6,408 (+67.4% yearly); claims "10k+ hours saved per week" for grocery operators; customer metrics include +22% net sales increase, +10% basket lift among loyalty members, and +20 order count lift. ## Competitive Advantages - **Single unified platform**: Replaces fragmented legacy POS, inventory, and loyalty systems with one integrated OS designed specifically for grocery workflows. - **AI agents that automate decisions**: Pricing, inventory, and marketing agents act automatically based on rules, reducing manual labor and protecting margins. - **Deep grocery domain expertise**: Founded by operators and former store directors; built with input from actual grocers (e.g., first order at Delucchi's Market, first scan at Market at Edgewood). - **Focus on independent/regional grocers**: Levels the playing field against large retail chains by providing enterprise-grade technology at accessible cost. ## Strategic Focus - **Current priorities**: Scaling AI agent capabilities (listing "Full Stack Product Engineer - Agentic AI"); expanding sales territory (VP of Sales for East Coast, Territory Account Executive for New York); continuing to reduce food waste and combat food deserts through supply chain data. - **Direction for growth**: Growing customer base beyond initial independent grocers, deepening integrations with suppliers, and enhancing automation to save operational hours. ## Why Work Here - **Culture highlights**: Values include "Think 100x", "Always level up", "Design toward the obvious".
