We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we power the shop local movement. If you believe in community, come join ours. ## About this role This role is a unique opportunity to build and own physical safety and security at Faire during a pivotal period of growth. You'll define what great looks like, balancing protection with proportionality, rigorous risk management with a workplace that feels welcoming and trusted. Your work will have an immediate impact on how our people feel at work and lay the foundation for how Faire operates as a scaled, public-company-ready business. We are looking for a strategic and execution-oriented safety and security leader to build, scale, and lead this new function. This critical role will sit at the intersection of People, Legal, and Workplace Experience, responsible for transforming how Faire manages physical security, incident response, travel risk, executive protection, and emergency preparedness across our global offices. We are seeking a leader who can both run day-to-day security operations directly and design scalable programs, policies, and governance. You'll be the foundational hire in this function, with responsibility for defining the long-term vision for safety and security at Faire. ## What you'll do - Physical Safety & Security Strategy: define Faire's physical safety and security posture across workplace, events, and facility operations. Conduct risk assessments and translate findings into proportional mitigation strategies. Build programs and standards that scale as Faire grows into new geographies. Direct the design of physical security systems for new / existing workplaces. - Security Operations & Incident Response: oversee day-to-day security operations programs, including guard services relationships and access control policies. Own incident response, investigation, and follow-up from initial assessment through resolution. Develop and execute emergency preparedness and response plans across all locations. - Travel Risk Management: build and operate a travel risk program that gives employees the information and support they need before and during travel, domestically and internationally. Assess risk for travel to elevated-risk destinations and define clear escalation and support protocols. Partner with People Ops and Legal to ensure Duty of Care obligations are met for traveling employees. - Executive Protection: provide executive protection support for senior leadership, including during high-profile events, travel, and periods of elevated risk. Assess threat levels and recommend protection measures that are proportional to actual risk. Build and maintain relationships with external EP resources and partners as needed. - Standards & Readiness: establish safety and security standards that hold up across locations and work styles. Prepare the function for audits, insurance requirements, and public-company expectations. Partner with Legal, People, and Workplace teams on compliance and reporting obligations. - Vendor & Partner Management: manage relationships with security vendors and external partners. Set service standards and hold vendors to consistent performance through clear accountability frameworks developed in close partnership with Procurement. - Employee Trust & Enablement: design safety programs and communications that are clear, transparent, and trust-building, not fear-inducing. Make it easy for employees to understand how to raise concerns and what to expect when they do. ## Qualifications - 8–12 years of experience in corporate security, physical security, LEO or a closely related field, ideally with experience at both high-growth tech companies and more mature organizations - Experience building or significantly scaling a corporate safety and security function from the ground up - Deep expertise in physical security systems (access control, CCTV, alarm), emergency response planning, and threat assessment methodologies - Experience running travel risk programs and executive protection, including vendor and partner management for both - Ability to write and operationalize policy that people actually adopt, clear, proportional, and free of unnecessary friction - Sound judgment in sensitive and confidential situations; experience partnering with HR, Legal, and Workplace on complex cases - Experience operating in fast-paced environments where autonomy, judgment, and clarity are essential - Comfort operating at a company that moves fast and values trust, you won't default to the most restrictive option - Preferred: CPP (Certified Protection Professional), PSP, or equivalent certification Salary Range San Francisco : the pay range for this role is $160,000 to $220,000 per year. This role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Hybrid Faire employees currently go into the office 3 days per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a third flex day of their choosing (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday).
