We're creating screen-free, delightful devices and services that let families call the people who matter most, free from the noise of today's digital world. We're building a bold, authentic, nostalgic, and kinda quirky brand that resonates with folks who want something simpler & better for their kids than the tech-infused lives we're currently living (and who have a sense of humor about it). As we gear up to scale to millions of families, we're ready to bring on an engineer to help bring the brand to life and make it fun and easy for our customers to share Tin Can with the rest of the world. ## The Role We're looking for our first Growth & Brand Engineer — the person who builds how new families discover Tin Can and decide to bring one home. In practice, that means the storefront campaigns behind our product launches and our biggest seasonal moments. A referral program that lets the families who love us tell the families who haven't heard of us. The tooling that lets our growth marketers launch a landing page on their own in record time. The sites and sign-up flows behind our brand campaigns. The launches that open Tin Can in new countries. And the occasional campaign moment that's far more than a web page, the kind of thing people screenshot and send to a friend. You'll be the engineer embedded with our growth and brand marketers, turning what they imagine into things families can actually experience — usually on a campaign timeline, where the launch date doesn't move. You'll work closely with the engineers who own our app, our devices, and our voice platform whenever your work reaches into theirs. This is a hands-on role with an unusually short feedback loop. You'll ship something on Tuesday and watch new families arrive because of it. ## What You'll Do - Own our Shopify storefront for acquisition — build and ship the product launches and seasonal campaigns behind our biggest moments of the year - Build the self-serve tooling that puts you out of the page-building business: components, templates, and guardrails so growth marketing can launch and iterate on landing pages without filing an engineering ticket - Build our referral program into something families actually want to share — the invite moments, landing pages, account dashboard, and rewards layered on top of our referral platform, plus the identity and reward data underneath that makes attribution and fulfillment work - Build the campaign moments that are more than a page — the bespoke, high-effort experiences we build a few times a year and want people to remember - Launch the web surfaces behind our brand work — campaign microsites, partner pages, and sign-up flows for the stories and events we want families to be part of - Build new ways for kids to bring their friends along, from brand-led Hotlines to the sharing features that turn one Tin Can into two - Help open new countries — the customer-facing side of international expansion, so buying a Tin Can in a new market feels as considered as it does at home - Instrument what you ship and keep it reliable — tested, monitored, and reversible, because a broken checkout during a campaign is a family who couldn't buy the thing they came for ## What We're Looking For - 4+ years building and launching customer-facing web applications, with real ownership of what you were responsible for - Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front-end work, plus enough back-end range to build and run an API (we're mostly TypeScript on AWS Lambda) - Hands-on Shopify experience — theme development in Liquid, checkout and subscription flows, apps and integrations, and the judgment for what belongs in the platform versus outside it - You've built tools for non-engineers and enjoyed it — you measure your success partly by how rarely people need you - You've worked toward campaign deadlines and know how to ship something excellent when the launch date genuinely can't move - You instrument what you build and can read the numbers honestly, including when they say your idea didn't work — you'll partner closely with the folks who own our experimentation platform rather than shipping blind - A reliability mindset on revenue-critical surfaces — you'd rather catch a broken checkout with an alert than with a customer email, and you think in terms of what's tested, monitored, and reversible - Security-aware around commerce, customer data, and third-party integrations — you keep dependencies current and know what an unmaintained plugin can cost - A genuine eye for craft and a love of the details — you can take brand and design direction and make it look right, and you'll notice when the spacing and type are off before anyone files a bug - A clear communicator who writes things down, because you want the whole team to understand the systems you build - A collaborative, low-ego approach — everyone here sweeps the floor - Bonus: you've integrated a referral, affiliate, or loyalty platform via its APIs and SDKs — not just installed an app — and know where the real work hides in identity, attribution, and reward fulfillment; Flutter (our app is Flutter, and some of this work reaches into it); internationalization and multi-market storefronts; feature-flag platforms like GrowthBook; Klaviyo or other lifecycle-marketing tooling; or having grown a direct-to-consumer brand through real seasonal peaks ## Why Join Tin Can - We're building tech that protects childhood: We're on a quest to give kids a more analog childhood — one with real conversations, real connection, and way less screen time. No doomscrolling, data mining, or dopamine traps — just a simpler, better way for kids to stay in touch. This is a rare opportunity to build something that truly matters. - You'll own how the world meets us: This is the first engineering role dedicated entirely to growth and brand. You'll own how new families discover Tin Can — with the full backing of the founding team, and the autonomy to decide how those surfaces should work. - Your work is visible: We're a small team, which means the page you ship, the referral loop you launch, and the campaign you launch are things the whole company sees and feels — often in the same week. - Small, high-trust team: Every company says "team," but at Tin Can it means something different. We're a small, mission-driven group that genuinely has each other's backs — professionally and personally. You'll be joining a tight-knit crew where your ideas and instincts matter from day one. - Room to explore, not just execute: You'll have the space to challenge assumptions, solve hard problems, and build systems that reflect our values of trust, simplicity, and care. If you're excited by the idea of building the first thing thousands of families see — and being the reason thousands more find us — we'd love to meet you. ## About Tin Can ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Tin Can builds a screen-free, Wi-Fi-enabled landline for kids that allows them to call approved contacts without the distractions of a smartphone. - **Entity Type**: Private (Seed stage) - **Headquarters**: Seattle, Washington, United States - **Founded**: 2024 - **Founders**: Chet Kittleson, Max Blumen, and Graeme (last name not publicly available) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Consumer Services / Kids’ Communication Hardware - **Target customers**: B2C – parents of children aged 4–13 who want a safe, screen-free phone option - **Mission**: “Bring back the freedom of the old-school landline, updated for today’s families.” ## Products & Services - **[Tin Can Device](https://tincan.kids/)**: A custom-designed, Wi-Fi-connected landline handset with no screen, no apps, no camera, and no browser.
