You’ll work with a team that values precision, urgency, and long-term thinking. If you want to shape how startups are funded and built, this is the place. ## About AngelList We exist to accelerate innovation by increasing the number of successful startups in the world. We do this by building the financial infrastructure that makes it easier for more people to invest in world-changing companies. AngelList is the nexus of venture capital and the startup community. We support $171B+ in assets and have powered investments into over 13,000 startups—over 300 of which are unicorns. Today, 57% of top-tier U.S. VC deals involve investors on AngelList. While our scale is large, our ambition is larger. If you're excited to build the future of private markets, come build with us. About the Role: $200B+ in assets and $90B in money movement run on infrastructure that about 50 engineers and a growing number of agents build on top of. We're hiring a Head of Engineering, Foundations to lead the team that owns it. This role reports directly to the CEO and has company-level scope. Part of what this team owns is new. Agents are becoming first-class users of our own systems, and nobody has a settled answer for what a platform owes a non-human user: sandboxing, audit trails, rollback, all against systems that move real money. You'd be deciding how that works here. As a Head of Engineering here, you'd be expected to personally ship, not just direct. Responsibilities: - Hire, coach, and grow a small team of high-performing engineers, and develop the staff and principal engineers who carry technical standards into other teams. - Build the platform the whole engineering org runs on: developer platforms, deployment pipelines, observability, and developer tooling. - Automate infrastructure as code on Kubernetes and AWS, using Pulumi, cdk8s, and ArgoCD. - Build the harnesses agents execute inside, including sandboxing, audit trails, and rollback against systems that move real money. - Set the engineering standards for reliability, operability, and architectural coherence, and sequence the quality work that keeps teams shipping quickly over time. What we’re looking for: - 12+ years in engineering, including 5+ leading teams. - A builder who leads. You write clean, well-tested code and have designed and shipped systems end to end, and you want to keep doing that while growing a team. - Leverage through senior engineers. You've developed staff and principal ICs who make other teams better. - Systems judgment. You've operated consequential infrastructure before. Kubernetes, AWS, and infrastructure-as-code experience helps, but judgment matters more than familiarity with our exact stack. - Developer experience as a product. You design infrastructure for the engineers using it rather than just operating it. - You author the standard. You have a clear point of view on what good infrastructure looks like and set it rather than inheriting it. Working Here If you don’t meet every requirement above, we still encourage you to apply. We value complementary strengths and operators who learn by doing. We operate out of hubs in New York City and San Francisco. For most roles on those teams, we work from the office at least two days per week (Tuesdays and either Wednesday or Thursday). Exceptions may be made for exceptional individual contributor candidates in other locations. Compensation:The compensation for this role consists of a competitive base salary, benefits, and equity package. The base salary for this role is $280,000+ annually but actual will vary based on a number of factors including a candidate’s professional background, experience, and location. Full details about our Total Rewards package will be provided during the recruitment process. Benefits:We support your life both in and outside of work. The company's stated goal is to solve the "ownership gap" for private companies — building the equivalent of public-market infrastructure (exchanges, custodians, transfer agents, brokers, retail distribution) for private markets, which now represent more than $28T in U.S. fund AUM. ## Products & Services - **AngelList Funds**: The administration layer for venture capital — enables fund managers to launch and operate venture funds, SPVs, and syndicates on the platform. - **USVC**: The brand behind retail access to venture investing, allowing non-institutional investors to participate in private-market deals. - **Meridian**: The wealth layer for private markets; a platform for managing private-market assets and portfolio operations. - **Nova** (coming soon): The banking and payments layer for private markets, announced as the next major product release. - **Scout Funds & SPVs**: Additional investment vehicles supported on the platform alongside venture funds. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed (private company) - **Key Metric**: Total funding of $124.1M (8 prior rounds). Platform scale figures are conflicting across sources: LinkedIn reports **$171B in assets on platform, 25K+ funds and syndicates, and 72K active investors**, while Built In reports **$15B in assets for fund managers, 17K+ startup investments (including 287 unicorns), and 1.3K startups using founder services** — both cited below as conflicting reports. - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Not publicly available in the provided data sources. - **Growth Signals**: Acquired Nova (banking/payments layer) in July 2023; acquired Prospectify (2019) and Product Hunt (2016, for $20M); has delivered $10B in capital to startups with a stated ambition to reach $10T; active hiring across Engineering, Data, Finance, Marketing, Legal, and Customer Success teams. ## Competitive Advantages - **Network effects / de facto standard**: Positions itself as the default platform for startup investing, with 25K+ funds and syndicates and 72K active investors on platform (per LinkedIn data). - **Full-stack private-market infrastructure**: Unlike point solutions, AngelList spans fund administration (Funds), retail access (USVC), wealth management (Meridian), and soon banking/payments (Nova) — a vertically integrated stack for private markets. - **Data moat**: Years of transaction, fund, and investor data create switching costs for fund managers and investors alike. - **Founder-friendly brand equity**: Long-standing reputation in the startup ecosystem, including backing 287 unicorns (per Built In). ## Strategic Focus - **Launching Nova**: The banking and payments layer for private markets is positioned as the next major growth vector, completing the company's "financial system for private markets" vision. - **Scaling Meridian**: Building out the wealth layer to serve private-market asset management at scale. - **Expanding retail access**: Growing USVC to bring venture investing to a broader audience beyond accredited investors. - **Growing platform AUM**: Pushing from $10B in capital delivered toward the stated $10T ambition. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: The company emphasizes high agency and ownership — described as "no ladders, only roads," where employees are expected to pave their own career paths and take on more than peers in the industry, faster, with less. - **Work mode**: Hybrid roles available in San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY (e.g., Senior Platform Engineer, Investor Services Specialist, Investment Operations Associate). - **Funder & founders program**: Employees can invest up to $100K from an AngelList fund into deals they source and earn 20% of the profits from those investments. - **Financial wellbeing**: Competitive salary, 401K, equity, FSA, and access to a finance coach. - **Healthcare**: Premium medical, dental, vision coverage, One Medical, wellness coach, FSA, Carrot fertility benefits, and generous parental leave. - **Lifestyle perks**: Unlimited PTO, unlimited book stipend, wellness reimbursement, and a remote office budget (co-working/home office). - **Office perks**: In-office meals, coffee walks, team offsites, commuter benefits, and safe rides home. - **Team size (conflicting reports)**: The careers page cites a team of 140; LinkedIn reports 321 employees (-0.7% YoY); Built In reports 518 total employees across 3 offices. ## Sources 1.
