This hands-on role is ideal for someone with manufacturing experience in industrial equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, blowers, skids). You will lead strategic sourcing, own all aspects of supplier relationships, partner with leadership to manage risk and cashflows, and build a strategy to deliver on time and under budget for Remora’s aggressive deployment schedule. We’re building modular carbon capture systems, turning exhaust into beverage-grade CO₂ sold to breweries and greenhouses. We deploy in regions facing severe CO₂ shortages, where prices are highest, allowing us to generate high margins without relying on tax credits or carbon credits. We’ve raised over $150 million in funding from top investors including Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Y Combinator, and Valor Equity Partners. Responsibilities: - Lead strategic sourcing of components, fabrication, and contract manufacturing. - Own supplier relationships from RFQ through qualification, contract negotiation, factory acceptance testing, and on-time delivery. - Negotiate agreements with suppliers to achieve the strongest pricing, lead times, payment terms, risk allocation, and downside protection. - Build long-term partnerships with suppliers to support Remora’s rapid growth. - Build a strategy to scale supply chain and manufacturing to meet Remora’s ambitious deployment schedule, including make vs. buy, dual sourcing, etc. - Develop and implement scalable processes for shipping and receiving, inventory tracking, and quality management. - Optimize delivery timing and payment terms to improve capital efficiency and ROIC. - Partner with Engineering, Finance, and Legal on DFM, cost, and contracts. Requirements: - 10+ years of experience in supply chain, procurement, or manufacturing operations, preferably in mid-sized or rapidly scaling industrial companies - Proven experience working with industrial process equipment or hardware systems (e.g., heat exchangers, blowers, skids, electromechanical assemblies) - Expertise in supplier sourcing, qualification, procurement, and contract negotiation - Strong project management and planning capabilities with a track record of complex, ambitious projects delivered on time and under budget Here’s what we value: - Mission First: We are laser-focused on our mission. We have chosen to take on the defining challenge of our time, and we don’t shy away from the hard decisions required to put our mission first, no matter how tough. The world needs our technology and it won’t happen any time soon if we don’t make it happen. We are a low-ego team, and we prioritize the mission over our self-interest. We think strategically with an eye to the long term, and we clearly separate what must be done well now, and what can be improved later, despite ambiguity. - Burning Urgency: Our hard-core intensity and work ethic match the crisis we’re in. We have a strong bias toward action, and we execute with focus and speed. In the absence of guidance, we take charge, lead our teammates, and accomplish our goals. We aren’t afraid to change course when something isn’t working, and we find solutions even when it seems like there are none. We are cool under pressure, and our quiet determination and drive are unwavering. We relentlessly push ourselves and each other to improve. We don’t accept adequate performance. Excellence is the expectation. Many would say our standards are unreasonably high, and many would say our goals are unreasonably bold, but we are hungry to be exceptional. We will never give up, no matter what. If we get knocked down, we get back up, every time. We will not fail. - Uncompromising Honesty: We are always honest with ourselves, our teammates, our customers, our investors, our suppliers, our communities, and all of our partners, especially about what’s not going well and what we don’t know. When we see issues, risks, or challenges, we speak up, and when we make mistakes, we admit them proactively and take full accountability. We challenge others directly when we disagree, even when it’s uncomfortable, and we seek this uncompromising honesty from others. - Treat People Exceptionally Well: We care intensely about everyone who is on this mission with us, and our standard is exceptional respect for our teammates, partners, and communities. Teammates who bring different perspectives and backgrounds are essential to our success, and we empower everyone to share their voice. We listen to truly understand. We constantly encourage and help our teammates, and inspire each other with our enthusiasm and optimism. - Joyful Curiosity: We love to learn, and we learn quickly. We explore the unknown with wonder and excitement. We reason from first principles. We generate original ideas with an open mind and test them quickly in the real world. We take risks and adapt as we discover more. We explore many ideas in parallel, and we don’t count on a silver bullet solution. We share our ideas freely with our teammates. We are skeptical about conventional wisdom, and we question every assumption and requirement. We are always looking for ways to simplify. We are rigorous and attentive to detail. We are eager to understand all aspects of our business and technology, and we contribute effectively outside our individual specialties. We never stop learning. Logistics: - Location: Wixom, MI (in-person required) - Start date: ASAP Compensation and Benefits: - Salary: $149,000 - $220,000 - Competitive Stock Options - Healthcare (BCBS) - Retirement (401k) - Student loan assistance - Three weeks of paid time off - Dependent care assistance (childcare or eldercare) - Parental leave - Unlimited sick and compassionate leave - Employee development and coaching - Office setup (remote) or relocation (in-person) stipend Studies show that many qualified candidates hesitate to apply unless they meet every listed qualification. If you’re enthusiastic about this role—even if you don’t meet every requirement—we encourage you to apply. We’re most excited to work with people who learn quickly and want to tackle the climate crisis. ## About Remora ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Remora retrofits locomotives and semi-trucks with carbon capture technology that extracts, purifies, and sells up to 90% of CO2 from exhaust, sharing revenue with operators. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series B, Y Combinator Winter 2021 batch) - **Headquarters**: Wixom, Michigan, United States (Detroit area) - **Founded**: 2020 - **Founders**: Paul Gross (CEO) – additional co-founders not publicly named. ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Climate technology / mobile carbon capture for transportation. - **Target customers**: B2B – freight railroads (Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern, Genesee & Wyoming) and trucking fleets (Ryder, Werner). - **Mission or purpose**: Monetize train and truck emissions by extracting, purifying, and selling CO2 to create a new revenue stream for operators while reducing emissions. ## Products & Services - **[Carbon Capture Retrofit System]**: Hardware device that attaches to locomotive or semi-truck exhaust, capturing up to 90% of CO2 and reducing soot, particulate matter, and NOx to Tier 4 levels. Remora sells the purified CO2 to end-users and shares the revenue with the vehicle operator. Type: Hardware (retrofit) + carbon credit/service. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed (private company) - **Key Metric**: Total funding of ~$117M (seed, Series A, and Series B combined). - **Notable Investors**: Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Y Combinator, Valor Equity Partners. - **Growth Signals**: Active pilot partnerships with major railroads (Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern, Genesee & Wyoming) and trucking companies (Ryder, Werner); 50-person team; Wall Street Journal feature in April 2025; third-party validated 90% capture efficiency. ## Competitive Advantages - **Proprietary adsorbents** that function in humid exhaust unlike off-the-shelf materials, and are non-corrosive/non-volatile compared to traditional solvents. - **Zero-backpressure design** that doesn’t impede engine performance. - **Modular architecture** applicable beyond vehicles (ships, data center generators, cement kilns, power plants). - **Rapid iteration** driven by proprietary simulation tools and machine learning, enabling quick design-test cycles. ## Strategic Focus - Scale commercial deployments with existing railroad and trucking partners; expand the carbon capture platform to other emission sources (ships, stationary generators, industrial facilities). ## Why Work Here - Mission-driven climate tech startup tackling a massive source of emissions (375M tons/year from trains and trucks in the U.S.). - In-person, Detroit-based hardware engineering environment (HQ in Wixom, MI). - Small team (~50 people) offering high ownership and visibility; backed by top-tier climate investors. - Opportunities to work on full-stack hardware (from adsorbent chemistry to field operations) in a highly iterative culture. - Career page lists roles in engineering (electrical, structural, field operations) and supply chain, indicating focus on scaling production and deployments. ## Sources 1.
