We are the builders. We are the Wayfinders. Bedrock is mapping the unseen world beneath our oceans and building the systems to do it at scale. We're hiring a Hydrographer/Geophysicist to work with some of the highest-resolution seafloor data on the planet. You'll process and analyze multibeam, sidescan, magnetometer, and sub-bottom data from Bedrock field tests and commercial operations, and you'll own rapid, iterative feedback on data quality. When something looks strange in a dataset, you'll be the person asking what it tells us about the vehicle, the survey plan, or the seafloor itself. You will also be in front of customers discussing data quality, interpretation, and deliverables, and teaching them how to read what they're seeing and what it's worth. This is a role for someone who relishes that part of the job. And you'll be on the leading edge of the field. Bedrock is working with major governments around the world on how uncertainty and accuracy should be defined in ocean data- literally helping write the book, the policy, and the guidelines. This is the team revolutionizing how the seafloor gets characterized, and you'd have a say in what the next decade of this field looks like. We are hiring for curiosity, speed of learning, and real excitement about seeing the seafloor in higher fidelity than anyone has seen it before. If you have most of what's below and you're hungry to learn the rest, we want to talk to you. ## What You'll Do Data Processing & Quality - First-pass analysis of MBES, SSS, magnetometer, and/or sub-bottom profiler data using commercial software (Qimera, Seaview, SonarWiz, Radex, etc.) - Own rapid, iterative feedback on data quality- first pass gets us information, not perfection - Spot artifacts and anomalies, and reason about what caused them - Work with Bedrock leadership and customers to hold the highest data quality standard in the industry Clients & Education - Create data products and write-ups for commercial clients - Serve as a primary point of contact for data quality issues, interpretations, and deliverables - Teach clients about the unique value of AUV data, and what they can do with it- bring them on the journey rather than handing over a file - Explain trade-offs, limitations, and uncertainty clearly, directly, and without defensiveness The Leading Edge - Contribute to how uncertainty and accuracy get defined in ocean data-work that feeds into government standards, policy, and guidelines - Collaborate with product and engineering on iterative improvements to the vehicle and to survey planning - Help build the processing workflows that let all of this scale ## Who You Are You're a curious, fast-learning data person who wants to be on the vanguard of ocean data, and who would rather be in the conversation with the customer than behind it. ## Experience - Experience processing and reporting on at least two of: MBES, SSS, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler, using commercial software - Comfort with ArcGIS, QGIS, and/or AutoCAD - Experience writing data reports for commercial clients - Attention to detail- you find the artifact nobody else saw ## Nice to Have - Experience across all four relevant sensor types (MBES, SSS, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler) - Light coding (Python/SQL) - Offshore experience (ship or AUV ops) - Certified Hydrographer, Cat A or Cat B; Licensed Surveyor - Experience across defense (mine countermeasures, unexploded ordnance), energy (oil & gas, offshore wind), and/or environmental survey ## How You Operate - You learn fast, and you ask good questions when you are uncertain - You treat processing as a problem-solving activity, not a checkbox exercise - Iterative by instinct, you improve the data and the workflow with every pass - Comfortable in a fast-paced environment where priorities change - You use tools and AI to increase speed, accuracy, and leverage - You are comfortable, clear, and collaborative in front of a customer ## What You Care About - The idea of seeing the seafloor in a way no one has seen it before excites you - You take pride in craft, clarity, and accuracy - You have some connection to the ocean, professional, academic, or personal and you are excited to be around people who dive, sail, build, and explore offshore Not a Fit If... - You want the data perfect on the first pass-iterative improvement is our way - You are uncomfortable with uncertainty or with rapid changes in priorities - You are not interested in learning new tools and approaches - You do not want to interface directly with clients, or you see customer education as a distraction from the real work - You are looking for predictable hours and firm boundaries around when the work happens. This job will require some nights and weekends around survey campaigns. Estimated compensation for this position is $95,000- $130,000 annually plus equity. Actual salary offered will be based on qualifications, experience, and location (SF and NY being at the high end of the band). If you want to work on the highest-resolution seafloor data on the planet and help decide what comes next in this field, we should talk. ## About Bedrock Ocean Exploration ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Vertically-integrated geophysical surveying and seafloor data company that designs, builds, and operates autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to deliver high-resolution seabed intelligence for energy, infrastructure, defense, and research sectors. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A; total funding $58.5M) - **Headquarters**: Richmond, California, United States (with a secondary office in New York, New York) - **Founded**: 2019 - **Founders**: Not publicly available ## Core Business - Primary industries: Ocean exploration, subsea surveying, autonomous robotics, marine data analytics - Target customers: B2B and government – offshore energy (wind, oil & gas), critical infrastructure (ports, telecom cables), security & defense, research institutions - Mission: Provide the world with a free, publicly available map of the world’s oceans, 50× more detailed than the current best public map. Bedrock is a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) committed to ocean exploration that prioritizes safety, environmental impact, and data accessibility. ## Products & Services - **Custom AUVs**: Proprietary autonomous underwater vehicles optimized for nearshore geophysical surveys. Payloads include Multibeam Echosounder (MBES), Sub-Bottom Profiler (SBP), Side-Scan Sonar (SSS), and Magnetometer (MAG). Vehicles can deploy from any vessel with minimal logistics and operate below the surface for discreet data collection. - **Cloud-Native Data Platform**: Paired software for storing, processing, and interpreting subsea data. Built-in onboard edge computing enables real-time QA/QC and performance monitoring without requiring AUV recovery. - **Survey-as-a-Service**: End-to-end subsea survey services (hydrographic, geophysical, UXO, etc.) meeting IHO special order standards. Covers site characterization, installation planning, infrastructure monitoring, and change detection. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Annual revenue of $25.0M (LinkedIn estimate); total funding $58.5M across four rounds - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Northzone (led Series A 2025), Primary Venture Partners (co-led Series A 2025), Eniac Ventures (led Seed 2021 and Series A 2023).
