To accomplish our aims, we’re leveraging state of the art statistical learning and convex optimization methods (AI) to build the financial trust layer for the electric age. We envision energy systems that are efficient, autonomous, resilient, and electrified. 🧗 Who we are We are an energy-obsessed, talented, and hard working entrepreneurial team. We are rooted in the spirit of the first mass electrification, when substations and transmission lines lit up America's cities fueling an era of unprecedented growth. Today, we are helping power the next wave of American ingenuity through a more resilient and affordable energy system. Our founders (ex-Apple, Bluevine; ex-Affirm, Square, Google) are Stanford alumni who have scaled multi-billion-dollar underwriting platforms from scratch. We bring expertise in energy, complex systems, computational science, and structured finance. Our world-class investors, [Maverick Ventures](https://www.maverickventures.com/) and [Caffeinated Capital](https://caffeinatedcapital.com/), are aligned to our policy objectives and platform vision. ## What we're building We are building a next-generation clearinghouse designed to unlock capital efficiency and enable the electrification of everything. At the core of our system is a proprietary underwriting and risk platform that combines advanced power market modeling, structured finance underwriting, and AI-driven risk assessment. We price, structure, and secure power risks in ways traditional providers cannot. ## The role We're looking for an exceptional finance professional to lead the underwriting, structuring, and execution of our deal pipeline as we scale our platform. You’ll structure transactions across our target sectors, utility scale renewable energy, energy storage, and digital infrastructure, covering the core risks in power finance. In this position, you'll play a decisive role in Comity’s growth trajectory. Key responsibilities include: - Financial Modeling and Underwriting. Build and maintain the financial models at the center of each transaction to support our underwriting. - Due Diligence. Run diligence across the financial, technical, legal, and environmental dimensions of each transaction. - Transaction Execution. Drive deals through structuring, negotiation, and documentation to close. - Client Management. Act as a trusted point of contact for our clients and counterparties, building durable relationships and positioning our solutions in the market. - Market Research and Strategy. Stay close to the developments shaping power and infrastructure finance, and feed them back into how we structure and price what we offer. We're excited about you because - You have hands-on finance experience in the space. 5+ years across project finance, investment banking, private equity, and/or infrastructure investing, analyzing, structuring, and executing complex transactions in renewable energy and/or digital infrastructure. - You're relentless. You take on more and more and have a knack for finding your way around the complex problems the financial world throws at you. You're creative where others get stuck. - You're deeply analytical. You're fluent in complex financial models and think naturally in terms of downside cases, risk allocation, and structural mitigants. Credit analysis skills are a plus. - You're excited to build. You want to help build the financial platform for the electric age, and to develop the tools and approaches that come with it. - You're a strong communicator with executive presence. You explain complexity with clarity and conviction and are comfortable engaging directly with senior counterparties. - You're technology-forward. You're energized by using and shaping technology to sharpen underwriting judgment and scale your impact. - You operate with high ownership and low ego. You elevate the teams around you and care about the outcome more than the credit. Compensation: In addition to salary, this role is eligible for an on-target bonus of up to 100% of base salary. Location New York City. At Comity, we seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool. Our priority is to ensure that all applicants are provided with fair and equal access to employment opportunities. Recruiting and hiring decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other class protected by law. ## About Comity ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Comity uses computational science and AI to redefine counterparty credit risk management for energy forward contracts, reducing grid volatility and lowering energy costs. - **Entity Type**: Private (early-stage/startup, backed by institutional investors) - **Headquarters**: New York, New York, United States - **Founded**: 2021 - **Founders**: Gerad Hanono (CEO, Co-founder), Alex Favaro (Co-founder) ## Core Business - Primary industry/industries: Energy Financial Services, Commodity Finance, Power Markets, AI-driven Risk Management - Target customers: Energy producers (generators) and energy users (utilities, industrial consumers) who transact in wholesale electricity forward contracts. - Mission or purpose statement: “Improve the reliability, transparency, and efficiency of our energy systems, fostering a future with sustainable and abundant energy” — they aim to create “more energy from every invested dollar.” ## Products & Services - **Comity Clearing Platform**: A technology-driven clearing and counterparty risk management solution for forward contracts in electricity and power-derived commodities. Uses AI and computational science to price and manage credit risk, replacing inefficient traditional collateral requirements. This unlocks capital that is currently tied up as risk buffers, making energy transactions cheaper and more capital-efficient for both producers and consumers. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed. - **Key Metric**: Total Funding (private, not disclosed). The company is backed by an undisclosed set of institutional investors cited as “leading institutions” where the team previously worked (e.g., names of top banks and energy firms implied in their talent pool). - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Backed by institutional investors (specific names not publicly disclosed on website or LinkedIn). Talent sources include Equilibrium Energy, Pagaya, Bluevine, TotalEnergies, Wayfair, and major financial institutions. - **Growth Signals**: Headcount grew 27.6% YoY to 16 employees (as of mid-2025). By reducing this friction, they directly lower system-wide energy costs. - **Mission-driven focus**: Ties its product to enabling the energy transition and scaling technological breakthroughs by making energy more affordable. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling the clearing network**: Growing the number of energy producers and users on the platform to increase liquidity and network effects. - **Product expansion**: Developing new risk products — implied by job postings for roles like “Quantitative Researcher for Congestion Revenue Rights” (a specific energy derivatives product) and “Surety Director” (insurance/bond expertise). - **Geographic and talent expansion**: Actively hiring across New York, Chicago, Bay Area, and multiple other US locations, while maintaining a presence in Europe (UK, Bosnia). - **Building for the energy transition**: Positioning itself as the financial infrastructure to support the growth of renewable energy and grid modernization. ## Why Work Here - **High-impact mission**: Directly contribute to making energy more affordable and reliable, enabling the electrification of the economy and the renewable energy transition. - **Cutting-edge technical work**: Work at the intersection of AI, computational science, and energy finance — solving uniquely hard problems with modern tools (industry stack: Python, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Tableau, Python). - **Talent density and background**: The team is small (<20 people) and highly experienced, coming from top institutions in energy, finance, and tech. Strong culture of expertise and drive. - **Growth trajectory**: Headcount is doubling, job postings are surging, and the company is expanding internationally — early-stage fast growth with tangible career acceleration for employees. - **Hybrid/remote flexibility**: Offers remote or hybrid working arrangements depending on role and location. New York HQ has office space for in-person collaboration. - **Autonomy and ownership**: As a small, growing startup, employees (especially in technical and business roles) will have significant ownership over projects and can shape the company’s direction early. ## Sources 1.
