Claude Code and AltaML's shared configuration and skills library are the default way engineers design, build, test, and review software, not an optional accelerant a few people use. We expect dramatically higher productivity from working this way. A step change, not a marginal gain. That's the baseline we hire and promote against, not an aspirational ceiling. We believe AI has compressed what used to take weeks into days, and what used to take days into hours. Estimates, sprint commitments, and delivery timelines should reflect that reality, not pre-AI habits. Show us, don't tell us. As part of applying, share an example of your AI-assisted coding: a PR, a repo, a recorded session, or whatever best demonstrates how you actually work with AI day to day. We overpay for the right people. We'd rather pay a premium for an engineer who embodies this and multiplies the team than save money on someone who doesn't. The Intermediate Software Engineer independently owns and delivers well-defined, small-to-medium complexity user stories end to end. You work AI-first by default: using Claude Code and AltaML's shared skills library as your everyday workflow, not a novelty. And, you're building the judgment to take on increasingly novel problems without close supervision. What You'll Do: Feature Implementation & Bug Fixes (~65%) - Serve as the main contributor for small-to-medium complexity stories, including work that introduces patterns new to AltaML/AltaForge. - Use Claude Code and AltaML's shared CLAUDE.md/skills library as your default workflow for design, implementation, and review Testing & Documentation (~15%) - Write comprehensive automated tests and clear documentation for novel code, ensuring long-term stability. Code Review Participation (~10%) - Give constructive feedback that measurably improves the quality of peers' contributions. Learning & Collaboration (~10%) - Build strong fluency in AltaML/AltaForge libraries and platforms and make sound technical choices independently. What You Bring: - 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience. - Daily, hands-on comfort with an AI coding assistant (Claude Code or equivalent) as a core part of how you work — or you pick one up fast. - Strong fundamentals in testing, Git, and at least one of Python, TypeScript, or C#. - Experience with a cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus. - Familiarity with LLM-based application development (LangChain, vector databases, LLM APIs) is a plus. Nice to Have's: - Experience contributing to a shared component or config library. - Exposure to agentic workflows or GenAI product development. What Success Looks Like - Independent Feature Velocity: Consistently owns and delivers small-to-medium complexity stories end to end with a fast, predictable cycle time — keeping delivery cost per story down. - AI-Accelerated Delivery: Visible, everyday use of AI-first workflows that meaningfully compresses cycle time — the weeks-to-days, days-to-hours shift we expect at every level. - Reusable Contribution: Regularly contributes novel code patterns or components that become candidates for shared libraries or AltaForge — supporting the AltaForge Clients and Same-Agent-Across-Clients north stars. - Technical Autonomy: Resolves the large majority of technical blockers independently, without routinely escalating to senior engineers. - Peer Quality Enhancement: Code review feedback that noticeably improves the quality of peers' work. ## About AltaML ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: AltaML builds vertical agentic AI solutions that improve decision-making, reduce risk, and unlock new revenue streams by turning data into operational action. - **Entity Type**: Private (Seed and Series A rounds, plus recent government grants) - **Headquarters**: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada - **Founded**: 2018 - **Founders**: Not publicly disclosed ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Artificial Intelligence / Software Development - **Target customers**: B2B – enterprises and government organizations in energy & resources, financial services, forestry & agriculture, health, and manufacturing - **Mission**: To reimagine what’s possible with AI by giving teams the tools to optimize processes, reduce risks, and unlock new growth – building a future-ready business. ## Products & Services - **AltaForge**: Proprietary agentic AI development platform that streamlines the entire lifecycle from idea to production, with built-in governance, observability, and control. - **AI Navigator**: A guided service to help organizations cut through AI hype, identify practical opportunities, and focus on high-impact use cases. - **AI Foundations**: Hands-on training program that builds AI literacy and essential skills across teams. - **Agentic AI Lab**: A structured lab for exploring and validating agentic AI workflows and identifying where agents can deliver operational value. - **GovLab**: A specific lab designed for government teams to responsibly experiment with and adopt AI, emphasizing transparency and accountability. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly available - **Key Metric (Private)**: Total funding of ~$6.25M (Seed $3.0M; Series A undisclosed amount in 2019; Grants including $3.2M from The Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund in 2020 and an additional grant from the Canadian Space Agency in 2025) - **Annual Revenue**: ~$15M (estimated) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: The Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, Canadian Space Agency, Amii (Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute), and deep ties with University of Alberta, University of Calgary, and University of Waterloo - **Growth Signals**: - 111 employees (+1.6% YoY) - 19 active job postings with +171.4% quarterly growth in listings - Offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Waterloo - Strong talent pipeline from top Canadian universities and companies like Microsoft, Deloitte, and Amazon ## Competitive Advantages - **Vertical AI expertise**: Deep knowledge of energy, agriculture, health, and manufacturing pain points, enabling tailored solutions that outperform generic AI. - **AltaForge platform**: Proprietary agentic engine that delivers auditable, enterprise-grade AI with built-in governance – moving beyond experiments to production. - **Academic & government partnerships**: Close collaboration with Alberta’s AI ecosystem (Amii) and federal agencies, providing credibility and talent access. - **Proven methodology**: End-to-end support from feasibility assessment through deployment and ongoing optimization. ## Strategic Focus - **Agentic AI leadership**: Scaling the use of autonomous AI agents that act on data rather than just producing dashboards. - **Vertical expansion**: Deepening pre-built solutions in energy, financial services, and government, while entering new industries through the GovLab and Agentic AI Lab. - **Talent pipeline**: Leveraging relationships with top universities (U of Alberta, U of Waterloo) to recruit and upskill AI talent. - **Product-led growth**: Using AltaForge to accelerate time-to-value for clients and reduce friction in AI adoption. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: AltaML emphasizes small bets, fast learning, and “better together.” They don’t hire for fit; they hire to add.
