Since our start in 2019, we have presented two world record-breaking quantum photonic processors. These are low-loss, multimode, reconfigurable interferometers, that allow the user to perform arbitrary, controlled interference between a number of optical channels, in the classical or quantum domain. QuiX Quantum's processors are industry-leading in the number of optical channels (20), low loss (2.9 dB), and high transformation fidelity (99%), making them an excellent solution for many applications. Not only in quantum computing, but also for quantum communication, QRNG, machine learning, and more. As a fast-growing company, we are now looking for an intern or a Master’s thesis student at our office in Stuttgart, Germany. What will you be doing? As an intern or student you will be part of the engineering team that works on assembling, testing and delivering our photonic processors to our customers. Your tasks will be focussed analysing, documenting and optimization of our production and quality assurance processes. You will take care of: - Analysis, documentation, design and optimization of processes ensuring efficient production. - Application of best practices in lean management, operational excellence and quality management. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in quantum computing, photonics, electronics, theory, and experimental physics. What we ask of you: - A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and enrollment in a master’s program - Knowledge in production and operation processes and optimization - Proficiency in spoken and written English. - Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. - An organized and methodical style of working with excellent documentation skills. The following would be an advantage: - Knowledge in lean management and operational excellence. - Knowledge in quality assurance and management (ISO 9001, 5S). - Experience with ERP systems. - Experience with photonic devices and/or quantum photonic computation. - Experience with software management. - Proficiency in spoken and/or written German. What to expect from us: Working in a start-up means that your work contributes directly to the direction of the company. Together, we work on awesome and challenging projects in a high-tech and innovative environment. Everyone has their own specialty and together we form a dynamic and diverse team. Your workplace will be in Stuttgart, Germany. The working language of our company is English. As a Dutch-German start-up we have flat hierarchies and a collaborative and inclusive work environment. We provide the resources, tools and training opportunities that enable you to succeed in your job and grow with the company. Depending on your tasks, hybrid working may be possible. ‍ Are you as excited as we are to contribute to the fastest way to a quantum future but at the same time to work on products that are useful today? Do you want to be part of our journey to develop the world’s best quantum computer while already delivering value to our customers now? Then join us! ## About QuiX Quantum BV ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: QuiX Quantum is the European market leader in photonic quantum computing, building deployable, integrated photonic quantum computers for data centers and HPC environments. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A, raised in July 2025) - **Headquarters**: Enschede, Netherlands (with additional offices in Amsterdam, Netherlands; Ulm and Stuttgart, Germany) - **Founded**: 2019 - **Founders**: Dr. Jelmer Renema (CEO) and Dr. Stefan Hengesbach (Chief Scientist) – full founding team details not publicly disclosed ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Photonic quantum computing hardware and systems - **Target customers**: B2B – data centers, high-performance computing (HPC) centers, supercomputing facilities, research institutions, and government/defense organizations - **Mission**: “Delivering quantum powerful and deployable at scale” – engineering photonic quantum computers that can run in standard data center environments without cryogenics ## Products & Services - **Special Purpose Quantum Computer**: A photonic quantum computer optimized for specific applications (e.g., risk modeling, fraud detection) that operates in data centers, using hybrid quantum-classical architecture. - **Quantum Photonic Processor**: A patented, reconfigurable photonic chip (20 optical channels, 2.9 dB loss, >99% transformation fidelity) that is plug-and-play, temperature stable, and fully calibrated – the core component of QuiX’s systems. - **Universal Quantum Computer**: A field-upgradeable, modular photonic quantum computer (currently in development, with a public roadmap to logical qubits announced in May 2026). ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of $42.2M (LinkedIn data) across multiple rounds including a Series A of $17.5M (July 2025) led by European Innovation Council Fund and Invest-NL, and earlier grants from EIC Accelerator ($19.1M) - **Notable Investors**: European Innovation Council Fund, Invest-NL, PhotonVentures, Oost NL, FORWARD.one - **Growth Signals**: - More than 15 photonic quantum systems deployed in the field worldwide - First company to sell a universal photonic quantum computer in Europe (first customer: German Aerospace Center DLR) - Headcount growth of 50% year-over-year (70 employees as of mid-2026) - Recent milestones: demonstrated below-threshold error mitigation (April 2026), introduced PACU control unit (June 2026), unveiled path to logical qubits (May 2026) - 9 patents filed (topics: microtechnology, microwave technology, photonics) ## Competitive Advantages - **Photonics platform**: Operates at room temperature using telecom-grade components – no cryogenics, lower total cost of ownership, easier to deploy and maintain than competing quantum platforms (e.g., superconducting, trapped-ion). - **Lowest-loss photonic chips**: Proprietary silicon nitride CMOS-compatible chips achieve the industry’s lowest optical loss, essential for scaling to useful quantum computers. - **Fastest clock speed**: Photonic quantum computing clock speeds of 100 MHz to 1 GHz, compared to <10 MHz for other platforms. - **Error resilience**: Photonic systems are inherently more noise-resistant and allow more efficient error correction, reducing hardware overhead. - **Drop-in ready**: Designed for standard data center and HPC environments, overcoming the “lab-only” barrier of other quantum hardware. ## Strategic Focus - Scaling from special-purpose to universal photonic quantum computing, with a real-world roadmap to logical qubits. - Deepening partnerships with HPC and data center operators across Europe and beyond. - Continuing to drive down optical loss and improve component integration through a fabless manufacturing model. - Expanding commercial traction beyond early adopters (e.g., DLR, University of Twente) into financial services, defense, and AI workloads. ## Why Work Here - **Cutting-edge technology**: Work at the forefront of photonic quantum computing, a platform with strong commercial and scientific momentum. - **Growth environment**: Rapidly scaling company (50% headcount growth in the past year) with clear product milestones and a live customer base. - **International presence**: Four offices across the Netherlands and Germany (Enschede, Amsterdam, Ulm, Stuttgart) – likely offering hybrid or remote flexibility (not explicitly stated, but typical for tech scale-ups). - **Hands-on impact**: Small team (70 people) means engineers and scientists can directly influence architecture and product direction. - **Culture**: Focus on engineering excellence, field-upgradable modular systems, and a “fabless” approach that leverages external manufacturing partners for flexibility. - **Talent development**: Active internship/master’s project opportunities (e.g., quantum light sources) and a growing team with open positions in quantum hardware, software, and photonics. ## Sources 1.
