Join a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals to advance the state-of-the-art in quantum computing. We are seeking a Quality Control Inspector to help establish the quality function within Atom Computing’s growing manufacturing organization. In this role, you will be responsible for incoming inspection, material and workmanship conformance, nonconformance control, and measurement assurance for precision hardware used in our neutral-atom quantum computers. Working closely with Engineering, you will help develop inspection and release processes, resolve quality issues, and ensure hardware meets established requirements. Your experience and judgment will play an important role in building reliable quality practices as we scale our manufacturing operations. ## Responsibilities - Perform incoming, first-article, in-process, and final inspections of optical, mechanical, vacuum, and electronic hardware against approved engineering drawings, specifications, and purchasing requirements. - Inspect critical dimensions, optical surface condition, assembly workmanship, and supplier documentation using established acceptance criteria and precision measurement equipment. - Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering to implement and refine in-process inspection points for optical cleaning, bonding, precision assembly, and rework. - Perform dimensional inspections using precision measurement equipment, including coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and support the development and improvement of inspection methods. - Maintain calibration and gauge records, verify equipment calibration status, and identify measurement limitations or concerns. - Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material; coordinate with Engineering on technical disposition and verify approved rework or corrective actions before release. - Work with Supply Chain and Manufacturing Engineering to investigate supplier defects, address recurring production issues, and verify the implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions. - Verify inspection completion, configuration identity, and resolution of quality issues at release gates. Maintain traceable quality records and communicate defects and release risks. ## Experience & Education - BS in Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent relevant quality control and precision-inspection experience. - 5+ years in manufacturing quality, quality engineering, or inspection of precision optical, mechanical, or electronic hardware. ## Qualifications - Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), optical workmanship requirements, and supplier conformance documentation. - Hands-on experience with dimensional metrology, inspection microscopes, precision gauges, and CMMs for inspecting precision parts and fixtures. - Working knowledge of optical cleanliness, bonded-assembly workmanship, vacuum sealing surfaces, and electronic component handling. - Experience with calibration practices, nonconformance control, root-cause investigations, and verification of corrective actions. - Strong attention to detail, accurate inspection documentation, and sound judgment in identifying nonconformances and escalating incomplete conformance evidence before hardware release. - Experience inspecting hardware used in quantum computing, photonics, semiconductor equipment, aerospace, or scientific instrumentation preferred. Atom Computing provides a wide variety of perks and benefits, including fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for our employees and their dependents. Additionally, unlimited paid time off, 401K company matching, short- and long-term disability, FSA, dependent care benefits, and life insurance.  We also offer drinks, snacks, and catered team lunches in our offices, every day! The base salary range for this position is between $75,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, we offer an annual bonus and equity in the company. ## About Atom Computing ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Atom Computing builds large-scale, gate-based quantum computers using arrays of optically-trapped neutral atoms to help companies and researchers achieve unprecedented computational breakthroughs. - **Entity Type**: Private (funded; $60M Series B closed January 2022, ~$191.2M total funding across 12 rounds) - **Headquarters**: Berkeley, California, United States - **Founded**: January 2018 - **Founders**: Ben Bloom (Founder & CTO), Jonathan King (Co-Founder & Chief Scientist); Rob Hays serves as CEO & President ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Quantum computing / quantum hardware and software - **Target customers**: B2B; enterprise researchers, commercial quantum algorithm developers, national labs, and scientific institutions seeking on-premises quantum systems - **Mission or purpose**: Building large-scale quantum computers to enable breakthrough discoveries and tackle increasingly challenging applications, with a clear path to fault tolerance. ## Products & Services - **[AC1000 — Quantum Computing Platform]**: A universal, gate-based quantum computer commercially available for on-premises deployment.
