--- title: 'LEO Satellite Operations Engineering Specialist at Telesat' canonical: 'https://feeny.ai/job/leo-satellite-operations-engineering-specialist-telesat-ottawa-0we31fm81d55' type: 'job' last_seen: '2026-09-11' --- # LEO Satellite Operations Engineering Specialist at Telesat - **Company:** Telesat - **Location:** Ottawa, Canada - **Employment:** full-time - **Work type:** onsite - **Posted:** 2025-08-11 - **Last confirmed live:** 2026-09-11 - **Apply:** https://jobs.lever.co/telesat/65b3d19f-432c-48cf-b25d-1e8fb56f5b62 ## Job description As a member of the LEO Satellite Operations team, the LEO Satellite Operations Engineering Specialist will provide technical leadership for engineering aspects related to ensuring effective in-orbit operations of all on-board subsystems on the Lightspeed satellite bus, in order to maximize subsystem health, performance and commercial availability.  This includes working, in collaboration, with others within the Satellite Operations team as well as other Lightspeed segments to improve efficiencies, through innovation, across all facets of in-orbit fleet operations. ## Responsibilities - Leads integration of SCS systems and development of satellite operations products; - Leads SOC testing, validation and verification of SatOps systems; - Develops of satellite operations products and implementation into the SCS systems; - Leads Satellite Operations Centre (SOC) concepts of operation and administrative systems development; - Working with Space Segment team, oversees evolution of satellite operations concept of operations (CONOPS) for LEOP and routine operations phases; - Oversees SOC testing, validation and verification of SatOps products, SCS system deliveries and training; - Manages maintenance of satellite operating procedures; - Guides automation development for satellite operations procedures; tracks performance; - Leads development of the Satellite Data Platform (SDP) design, analytics and maintenance; focusing on short and long-term trending of satellite telemetry data; - Details satellite operations processes within the SOC; refining satellite control guidelines outside of the SCS; - Provide engineering guidance to satellite controllers during all phases of operations; - Provide engineering oversight and/or training on all matters pertaining to the development and use of the satellite operations products and supporting trending and analysis tools. Education and Experience - Masters or Bachelor degree in an Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering, or the equivalent; - A background in Aerospace technologies and expertise in satellite operations software systems and development; - Minimum of 9-14-years experience in Satellite Operations Engineering; - Knowledge of satellite subsystem design and operation; - Knowledge of electronics, control systems and radio frequency communications; - Experience in developing software with a variety of platforms and programming tools; - Strong analytical, problem solving, real-time decision-making, planning and organizational skills; - Excellent verbal and written English communications skills; - Independent and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment - Knowledge of containerized software platforms is an asset; - Experience with Machine Learning and Data Analytics is a big asset; - Experience in Python programming is an asset. Decision Making and Supervision - Ensures general policy governance is closely followed; recommendations are reviewed for technical soundness or judgment but are generally accepted as technically accurate; - Guides decisions on the technical development of operational concepts; - Independent technical decision-making on software architecture, integration, and automation; - Works under general direction of the Senior SatOps Engineering Specialist and provides technical priorities for software infrastructure in collaboration with the SOC Systems team; - Influences operational decisions indirectly through robust and reliable software solutions & processes Successful candidate must possess (or be eligible to obtain) a CGP security clearance. Working environment is in the Lightspeed SOC in Ottawa and/or Gatineau. Expect normal business hours during the design/development phase and shift work during the operations phase. Support during emergency response activities may require a call-out.
