This role is responsible for maintaining work management platforms, operational playbooks, financial and IT systems. The Manager, Strategic Operations will help build and sustain the operational backbone of the company. You will also work closely with the COO on internal communications, board and investor materials and core organizational workflows. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong judgment, and a commitment to high professional standards. ## About Epistemix The most consequential decisions in public health, life sciences, insurance, and enterprise strategy share a common problem: they involve human behavior, network effects, and downstream effects that cannot be safely tested before action is taken. Traditional analytical techniques built on historical data were not built for this. Epistemix was. We build simulation and data-driven modeling tools that let leaders visualize how strategies will unfold across populations and systems before they commit resources. By clarifying which variables drive outcomes, where leverage exists, and how they interact, we help organizations move from uncertainty to conviction. Getting these decisions right means faster interventions, better-allocated resources, and measurable improvements in human and economic outcomes. We exist to make that possible. Our platform gives organizations access to realistic, high-resolution population data and the modeling infrastructure to run scenario planning at scale. Together, these capabilities let decision-makers stress-test strategies in a controlled environment before deploying them in the real world across healthcare, consumer industries, insurance, and government. We are approaching our Series B and actively building the team that will define what comes next. ## Responsibilities Operational Infrastructure - Organizational Systems: Support the COO in designing and maintaining internal systems that enable the organization to operate effectively. Used for sizing Total Addressable Market (TAM), segmenting audiences, enriching existing data, and discovering patterns traditional analyses miss. (Data/API Platform) - **[Polaris]**: A scenario planning platform that empowers organizations to test strategies, optimize decisions, and shorten decision cycles through simulation, AI, and inference. Users can ask "What If...?" to understand the impact of different scenarios (e.g., product launches, resource allocation, health benefit adoption). (SaaS Simulation Platform) - **Custom Consulting / Modeling Services**: Epistemix partners with clients to build bespoke agent-based models for specific strategic challenges (e.g., disease spread, market saturation, political polarization). (Service) ## Market Standing - **Total Funding**: $19.5M (across 7 rounds) - **Latest Round (Seed/Series A mix)**: - Series A (2024-03-31): $5.0M from 3 investors - Venture Round (2022-02-11): $5.1M - Seed Round (2022-03-01): $5.0M from 4 investors - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Not fully disclosed in public sources, but seed/Series A syndicate includes multiple unnamed institutional investors. Partners include leading public health agencies and global corporations. - **Growth Signals**: - Headcount grew 15% YoY (16 employees as of mid-2025). - LinkedIn followers grew 30.2% over the past year. - Website traffic grew 281.6% year-over-year. - Actively hiring with 14 open positions (including AI Engineers, Data Scientists, and Backend Engineers). - Clients include major public health agencies and global CPG/healthcare firms. ## Competitive Advantages - **Proprietary Synthetic Population Technology**: Epistemix builds statistically representative "digital twins" of entire populations (countries, cities, target demographics) without using real PII. This allows them to model behavior in environments where traditional data is sparse or unavailable. - **Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) at Scale**: Unlike traditional statistical models, their ABM simulates the interactions of millions of individual "agents," capturing emergent behaviors (e.g., tipping points, market saturation, cultural movements) that aggregate models miss. - **Academic-to-Commercial Bridge**: Born from academic research, the platform has been validated in high-stakes environments (e.g., pandemic response), providing a strong credibility moat. - **High Switching Costs**: The platform integrates deeply into client planning workflows. Once an organization builds its decision-making process around Epistemix’s simulation outputs, the cost and risk of switching to a less sophisticated alternative are high. ## Strategic Focus - **Product-Led Growth & Platformization**: Shifting from bespoke consulting to a self-service and scalable SaaS platform (Populus/Polaris). - **Industry Expansion**: Moving beyond public health into CPG, financial services, and climate resilience. - **AI Integration**: Leveraging AI and inference engines within the platform to accelerate scenario creation and improve prediction accuracy. - **Talent Acquisition**: Bulking up engineering and data science teams (hiring for AI Engineers, Synthetic Population Engineers, and Senior Backend Engineers) to accelerate product development. ## Why Work Here - **Mission-Driven**: Work on the "biggest challenges of our time" — pandemics, climate change, political polarization — by giving leaders the tools to make sense of complex dynamics. - **Culture & Values**: Guided by values of **Empathy** (understanding users, constraints, motivations), **Clarity** (keeping things simple, being forthright), **Inspiration** ("checkers, not chess" — focus on long-term strategy), and **Grit** (sustained effort to win). - **Technical Depth**: Strong emphasis on agent-based modeling, synthetic populations, and AI. Tech stack includes Python, TypeScript, Django, React, Postgres, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, and modern CI/CD tooling. - **Growth Opportunity**: As a 16-person company growing rapidly (15% YoY headcount growth) with $19.5M in funding, new hires have significant ownership and impact over product direction. - **Work Modes**: Primarily in-office presence (HQ in Pittsburgh, PA) with some flexible arrangements. The team culture emphasizes direct collaboration on complex modeling challenges. ## Sources 1. [epistemix.com](https://epistemix.com/) 2. [epistemix.com (About)](https://epistemix.com/about) 3.
