We solve real-world problems with real hardware. We move fast, take ownership, and hold a high bar for execution. We value people who are low ego and team-first, calm under pressure, direct and respectful communicators, willing to roll up their sleeves, and focused on solutions, not drama. We operate with high integrity. We do what we say we’ll do, we’re transparent about risks and tradeoffs, and we build trust through consistent follow-through. The work is hands-on. Sometimes messy. Often fast. Always meaningful. Founded in 2021, Range is led by experienced EV operators from Tesla, Zoox, Honda, and other leading OEMs. We are backed by strong investors and focused on building hardware that fleets will actually use. If you like building real things, solving hard problems, and working with low drama, high output teammates, you will fit here. ## Role Summary We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with high drive, low ego, and a genuine desire to own hard problems across our trailer platform. This role sits at the center of our hardware development process — you'll be hands-on with CAE, executing FEA models and validating designs through simulation, while also contributing directly to the physical design and integration of trailer subsystems. The level is open. Whether you're early in your career and ready to build real skills fast, or an experienced engineer looking to take on significant technical ownership with minimal hand-holding, we want to talk. What matters is strong fundamentals, a bias toward execution, and genuine curiosity about how things work. You'll partner closely with systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and ready for the road. ## Key Responsibilities - Develop and execute structural FEA models using CATIA & Ansys to validate trailer subsystems — chassis, suspension, enclosures, and structural interfaces - Build and maintain load cases, boundary conditions, and simulation workflows that support design decisions across the mechanical team - Perform durability, fatigue, and thermal analyses to ensure designs meet real-world operating requirements - Lead or contribute to mechanical design efforts — component design, tolerance analysis, and drawing release — commensurate with experience level - Collaborate with hardware, systems, and manufacturing teams to integrate analysis into the design cycle and drive design-for-manufacturability - Correlate simulation results with physical test data; own root-cause analysis when designs don't perform as expected - Document analysis methods, assumptions, and results to support design reviews and build institutional knowledge What Success Looks Like (first 6–12 months) - Own FEA validation for major subsystems — from load case development through design sign-off - Build repeatable simulation workflows that improve speed and consistency across the mechanical team - Become a trusted resource for analysis-driven design feedback across hardware and systems teams - Ship a meaningful contribution to the organization’s physical design efforts — not just analysis support Required Qualifications - Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field - 2+ years of experience in mechanical design and/or structural analysis (internship and project team experience considered for strong candidates) - Hands-on proficiency with FEA tools, preferably Ansys (Mechanical, Workbench) - Experience with CAD tools (CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks) - Solid understanding of structural mechanics, fatigue, and material behavior - Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks in parallel, and communicate findings clearly ## Preferred / Nice-to-Haves - Experience in heavy vehicles, commercial trucks, trailers, or off-highway equipment - Exposure to durability and fatigue analysis methods (stress-life, strain-life, damage accumulation) - Familiarity with thermal analysis or CFD - Experience correlating simulation results with physical test data - Knowledge of ISO, SAE, or FMVSS standards for commercial vehicles - Background in mentoring peers or leading technical efforts on a team Range Energy’s compensation package includes a competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, and a generous benefits package. The salary range for Mountain View, CA based applicants is between $106,000 - $260,000 annually. The total compensation will be determined based on multiple factors including domain knowledge, experience and location. --- Range Energy participates in E-Verify in the United States. Range Energy will provide the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. ## About Range Energy ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Range Energy electrifies commercial trucking by retrofitting standard semi-trailers with an eTrailer system that integrates a high-voltage battery, electrified axle, and advanced sensor suite, delivering fuel savings and emissions reductions without requiring new tractors or charging infrastructure. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A) - **Headquarters**: Mountain View, California, United States - **Founded**: 2021 - **Founders**: Not publicly disclosed (key leadership includes Fei Liu, President & CEO; Ali Javidan, President & CTO; Kyle Foley, COO) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Motor Vehicle Manufacturing / Clean Transportation - **Target customers**: B2B – commercial trucking fleets, logistics companies, refrigerated haulers - **Mission**: “Unlocking a cleaner, safer, and smarter future for commercial transportation” — the company’s eTrailer system is built to upgrade the 3.5 million trailers already on U.S. roads rather than replace them. ## Products & Services - **eTrailer System**: A retrofit hardware solution for standard semi-trailers that includes a 250 kW eAxle, up to 300 kWh of onboard battery storage, and a smart sensor suite. It installs in a few hours, works with any tractor (diesel or electric), and requires no driver retraining or new charging infrastructure. Benefits include 40%+ fuel savings, up to 70% reduction in emissions, and elimination of diesel reefer operation for refrigerated fleets. (Type: Hardware + embedded software) ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of $31.5M (Seed $8M in Nov 2022; Series A $23.5M in Feb 2024) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Series A led by Trousdale Ventures; other investors include participants in the Seed round (3 investors in Seed, 4 in Series A) - **Growth Signals**: Headcount of 39 employees (+4.7% YoY); active hiring with 5 open positions; team built from Tesla, Zoox, Rivian, and other EV leaders; 5,622 LinkedIn followers (22.9% yearly growth) ## Competitive Advantages - **Retrofit approach** – works with any existing semi-trailer, avoiding the need for fleet replacement or new tractor purchases. - **No infrastructure dependency** – the eTrailer system does not require new charging stations, making adoption seamless for fleets. - **Immediate impact** – delivers 40%+ fuel savings and up to 70% emissions reduction, with elimination of diesel reefer for refrigerated loads. - **Proven team** – leadership and engineering talent from Tesla, Zoox, Google, and other high‑volume vehicle platforms. ## Strategic Focus - **Industrialization and scaling** – transitioning from prototype to production, building operational foundations for long‑term growth, and accelerating deployments (as highlighted by the appointment of Fei Liu, former President of Flex Asia and Motorola Mobility). - **Product expansion** – continuing to refine the eTrailer system and sensor suite while targeting broader commercial adoption. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Values-driven environment emphasizing “beyond boundaries” (cross‑disciplinary collaboration), “build like it matters” (technical precision and safety), and “one team” (mutual support and celebration of progress). - **Work policy**: Mix of on‑site and hybrid roles; headquarters in Mountain View, CA, with a secondary location in New York, NY for some legal positions. - **Engineering culture**: Hands‑on, impact‑focused team with deep EV expertise; opportunities to work on hardware, firmware, full‑stack software, and systems engineering for a product that directly reduces emissions in heavy trucking. - **Perks**: Not explicitly listed, but the company emphasizes meaningful work, technical excellence, and a collaborative atmosphere. ## Sources 1.
