More than 10,000 scientists use our agents for R&D. All frontier AI labs use our benchmarks to measure what their systems can do in biology and medicine. We are the only biotechnology company referenced in the biology sections of frontier model cards. We ground our benchmarks in real biological and clinical work in order to advance AI systems that can design and run experiments, interpret data and clinical endpoints, and advance compounds through clinical trials better than the best human experts. We are a team of roughly 95 people in San Francisco and remote. Our investors include Lux Capital, Coatue, Fifty Years, Haystack, Jeff Dean, Alec Nielsen, and George Church. ## THE ROLE You will lead the clinical side of what Latch measures. You will define the translational endpoints in our therapeutics and disease benchmarks and determine whether a model’s answer is correct in the sense that matters to a treating physician, investigator, or regulator. You will also help obtain clinical data required to build these benchmarks. The most useful data is often not public. It sits within archived clinical trial records, patient registries, health systems, nonprofits, academic centers, and biotechnology companies. Access depends on trust, sound agreements, and a clear understanding of how sensitive data should be handled. ## WHAT YOU WILL DO - Define and own the translational endpoints used across our therapeutics and disease benchmarks. You will be expected to defend those decisions. - Turn real drug programs and clinical-trial designs into tasks on which AI agents can be scored. Failed trials are especially useful when the reason for failure is known. - Serve as the clinical authority for our omics, therapeutics, and biosecurity teams. Before Latch makes a clinical claim about a disease, you will be the final reviewer. - Establish data partnerships with patient cohorts, nonprofits, health systems, academic centers, and biotechnology companies. - Negotiate data-use agreements and build the consent, de-identification, compliance, and review processes required to work with clinically sensitive data. - Build the clinical function at Latch, beginning with advisors and eventually hiring and building a team. ## MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who meets the requirements below. The preferred qualifications are useful but are not a filter. - You hold an MD and have completed residency. - You have defined or defended a clinical endpoint in a Phase I, Phase II, or Phase III clinical trial. - You have served as a physician or named investigator on at least one Phase I, II, or III clinical trial. You can explain the molecule, patient population, dose rationale, safety profile, endpoint selection, and the responses from the FDA or safety monitoring board. - You have authored FDA regulatory documents such as IND, clinical trial protocols, investigator brochure, BLA/sBLA filings, and medical device authorizations. - You have a working command of disease development and can reason from a phenotype to its possible molecular or genetic basis. ## PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience in rare disease, oncology, solid tumors, or gene therapies. - Familiarity with frontier AI model performance benchmarks. - You have taken data-use agreements through execution yourself. You understand consent, de-identification, and IRB review well enough to design the process. - You have secured a data or research partnership with a patient group, nonprofit, academic center, health system, or biotechnology company. - Familiarity with HIPAA, GDPR, and NIH controlled-access systems, including dbGaP and Data Access Committees. - Regular use of AI tools in clinical or scientific work, along with specific views about where those tools fail. ## THE INTERVIEW One interview will be a detailed discussion of a drug program you know well. You should be prepared to explain the trial details, such as mechanism of action, patient population, dose rationale, endpoints, safety profile, regulatory feedback, and your own contributions. ## LOCATION This is a full-time, in-person position at our waterfront office in China Basin, San Francisco. The team works from the office five days a week. The role is not hybrid or remote. ## COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS - Total compensation ranges from $250,000 to $400,000, depending on clinical and technical experience. - We believe in long-term incentive plans and provide equity and 401(k) contributions. - Benefits include a Blue Shield Platinum health plan with 100% of premiums covered, no deductible, and no out-of-pocket costs. - Daily meals, including lunch and dinner, are provided. Travel and accommodations for medical conferences or other professional networking trips are included. ## About LatchBio ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: LatchBio builds and deploys frontier AI agents for biological data analysis, serving over 300 biopharma and R&D labs worldwide. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A; total funding $33.2M) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, United States - **Founded**: 2021 - **Founders**: Alfredo Andere (CEO) and Kenny Workman (CTO) ## Core Business - Primary industry: Biotechnology Research / AI for biology - Target customers: B2B – biopharma companies, academic R&D labs, and solution providers (kits, assays, instrument vendors) - Mission: Deploy AI agents into real scientific work to accelerate data analysis and drug discovery ## Products & Services - **Latch Platform**: A unified, serverless bioinformatics platform that lets scientists run, track, and debug pipelines via an SDK-generated no-code interface. Supports FastQ, CSV, H5AD, TIFF, and other formats. Agents can analyze messy real-world data. - **Latch SDK**: Python toolchain to define serverless workflows and dynamically generate no-code UIs, removing cloud-infrastructure overhead. - **agent.bio**: Public, interactive sandbox where frontier AI agents (e.g., Claude 4.8 Opus) analyze biological data. Supports 40+ solution providers. - **benchmarks.bio**: Open, reproducible benchmarks measuring AI agent performance on spatial, single-cell, epigenomics, and preclinical pharmacology data. Includes papers like scBench-Long, TxBench-PP, etc. - **White-labeled data analysis**: Solution providers can offer a branded, simpler analysis experience for their kits and services. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Annual revenue of ~$1.0M (LinkedIn estimate); total funding $33.2M - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Coatue, Lux Capital, Fifty Years, Haystack, Gelt, Backend Capital; individual investors include George Church, Jeff Dean, Hemant Taneja, Laura Deming, Alec Nielsen - **Growth Signals**: 140% YoY headcount growth (from ~11 to 26 employees); 300+ biopharma and academic teams served; 40+ solution providers onboarded; recent publication of multiple benchmark papers (2025–2026) ## Competitive Advantages - **First-mover in AI agents for biology**: Combines frontier LLMs with rigorous, verifiable benchmarks tailored to biological data (spatial, single-cell, epigenomics, pharmacology). - **Open benchmarks & reproducibility**: All benchmarks (e.g., scBench-Long) are published openly, building trust and attracting top talent. - **White-labeling for solution providers**: Allows kit and instrument vendors to offer AI-powered data analysis under their own brand, creating a network effect. - **Tight integration with real lab workflows**: Supports common file formats and interfaces with existing pipelines, reducing friction for scientists. ## Strategic Focus - Continue research and deployment of AI agents for biology, with emphasis on long-horizon tasks and messy real-world data. - Expand the agent.bio sandbox to more solution providers and biopharma customers. - Publish additional benchmarks (spatial, preclinical) to establish Latch as the standard evaluator of AI in biology. - Grow engineering and bioinformatics teams to accelerate platform development. ## Why Work Here - **Engineering culture**: Small, high-autonomy team where engineers own features end-to-end and see their code impact thousands of scientists the same day.
