Our Mission Areas bring together related customers, programs, technologies, and growth opportunities. As a Mission Lead, you will act as the lead of a substantial business portfolio—setting its strategy, guiding investment and technical direction, developing customer relationships, and taking responsibility for its long-term growth and health. This role is for a leader who wants to build a business, shape technology, and create lasting mission impact. ## What You'll Own Strategy and Growth - Define the long-term vision, strategy, and growth trajectory for your Mission Area. - Identify emerging mission needs, market shifts, and technology trends before they become requirements. - Build and maintain trusted relationships with government customers, mission stakeholders, and industry partners. - Shape opportunities from early concept through capture and award. - Partner with the business development team and executive leadership to develop growth strategies, pursue new work, and expand customer relationships. - Lead or contribute to white papers, proposals, strategic captures, and business development activities. - Ensure EXP’s investments align with future customer needs and mission priorities. Portfolio Leadership - Guide the overall health and direction of a substantial portfolio of programs, customers, and investments. - Maintain accountability for the financial health and growth of the Mission Area. - Balance near-term execution with long-term capability development. - Evaluate investments in new technologies, products, and internal research efforts. - Monitor portfolio performance, customer satisfaction, pipeline health, backlog growth, and strategic positioning. - Make informed decisions about where EXP should focus its time, talent, and resources. Technical and Mission Direction - Help define the technical roadmap for the Mission Area. - Connect customer mission challenges with EXP’s capabilities in AI, machine learning, computer vision, signal processing, software, data platforms, and advanced analytics. - Partner with technical leaders to ensure our solutions remain differentiated and mission relevant. - Drive the transition of new ideas into deployed operational capabilities. - Represent EXP's technical vision and mission expertise to senior government and industry audiences. Building Leaders and Organizations - Partner closely with Operations Leads who are responsible for program execution, delivery excellence, and people leadership. - Provide strategic direction and context that enables teams to make effective decisions. - Help develop the next generation of leaders across the Mission Area. - Contribute to a culture of learning, collaboration, autonomy, and continuous improvement. - Foster alignment across customers, technology investments, operations, and company strategy. ## What We're Looking For Required - Active TS/SCI clearance. - Demonstrated success leading significant technology, mission, or business portfolios. - Experience supporting defense, intelligence, or national security customers. - Proven ability to build trusted customer relationships and grow business opportunities. - Experience shaping and pursuing strategic opportunities, including business development, capture, proposals, or customer engagement. - Strong understanding of advanced technology domains such as AI, machine learning, computer vision, signal processing, software systems, data platforms, or related fields. - Ability to connect mission needs, technical capabilities, and business objectives. - Excellent communication skills and comfort engaging with senior government, industry, and internal stakeholders. - Track record of developing leaders and building high-performing organizations. ## Preferred - Experience owning or influencing the performance of a significant portfolio, business line, or mission area. - Experience with AI/ML, computer vision, autonomous systems, advanced analytics, or other emerging technologies. - Experience transitioning technology from research into operational deployment. - Experience leading major strategic captures and proposal efforts. - Master's degree or higher in a technical, scientific, or business discipline. - Deep familiarity with one or more defense or intelligence mission communities. ## About Expedition Technology ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Expedition Technology (EXP) applies AI/ML, signal processing, and computer vision to deliver signals intelligence and multi-INT solutions for the U.S. defense and intelligence communities. - **Entity Type**: Private (Bootstrapped) - **Headquarters**: Herndon, Virginia, USA - **Founded**: 2013 - **Founders**: Not publicly available ## Core Business - **Primary Industries**: Defense & National Security, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Signal Processing, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR/C4ISR) - **Target Customers**: U.S. Department of Defense, Intelligence Community (IC), and prime defense contractors (B2G/Enterprise) - **Mission or Purpose Statement**: Build innovative, advanced signal, image, and multi-INT solutions to solve customers’ most complex, demanding, and urgent C4ISR challenges, preserving national safety. ## Products & Services EXP is a research and development (R&D) services and product-oriented company. They do not market off-the-shelf consumer products; they develop custom, mission-focused solutions: - **Signal Processing Solutions**: Combining traditional signal processing with machine learning algorithms to process gigasamples of data at the edge and in the cloud. - **Computer Vision Solutions**: Detecting and tracking real-world objects across multiple sensing modalities, capable of performing with scarce training data. - **Deep Learning Solutions**: Researching and deploying novel neural networks for real-time, raw sensor data challenges. - **Embedded Systems Solutions**: Implementing FPGA and GPU subsystems for image and signal data classification. - **Web / Cloud / DevOps**: Building robust, secure solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, and CloudFormation with a focus on CI/CD and automation. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not publicly available (private, non-VC-backed entity). - **Key Metric**: Over a decade of sustained operations (founded 2013) with a strong reputation in the defense tech sector. - **Notable Clients/Partners**: U.S. Department of Defense, Intelligence Community (IC), and prime defense contractors. Employees choose their own coach annually. - **Exceptional Benefits & Flexibility**: - **Individual Benefit Account (IBA)**: Employees receive a pool of funds to allocate as they wish across healthcare, PTO, and a bonus. Unused IBA dollars are paid out at year-end. - **Flexible Cash PTO**: Can take up to 45 days of PTO per calendar year and can cash out unused time. - **Retirement**: Up to 12% contribution to a 401(k) (employer match/profit sharing) plus student loan repayment plans. - **Parental Leave**: 12 weeks paid for primary caregivers; 2 weeks for secondary. - **Learning Culture**: Autonomy to guide careers with support from coaches. Benefits include tuition assistance, conference attendance, and internal “brown bag” discussions. - **Mission-Driven Work**: The opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that directly impacts national security. - **Work Policy**: Likely on-site or hybrid, given the classified nature of much of the work (Herndon, VA location). - **Commitment to Accessibility**: Explicit accommodations policy for candidates with disabilities. ## Sources 1.
