The company uses plants to capture CO₂ from the atmosphere, converts the biomass into a stable, carbon-rich liquid, and then pumps it deep underground for permanent removal. ## Products & Services - **Carbon Removal via Bio-Oil Sequestration**: Charm's core service. The company collects cellulosic biomass (agricultural residues) after harvest, processes it through mobile fast pyrolyzers to create a stable, carbon-rich bio-oil, and then injects this bio-oil into EPA-regulated injection wells. The bio-oil sinks and solidifies in place for permanent storage. - **Biochar**: Charm's pyrolysis process also produces biochar as a co-product. - **Carbon Removal Credits**: Charm sells verified carbon removal credits to enterprises and organizations. Customers include Stripe, Shopify, JP Morgan, and Microsoft. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed. - **Key Metric**: Total Funding of $145.5 million (6 prior funding rounds). Annual Revenue of $9 million. - **Notable Investors/Partners**: General Catalyst (led Series B), Lowercarbon Capital, Prime Coalition, Valor Equity Partners, Incite Ventures. - **Growth Signals**: The company has completed over 7,200 tons of CO₂ Equivalent removal. They have built a transparent ledger and verification model for the industry. They are expanding capacity and co-benefits through enterprise purchases and long-term offtakes. ## Competitive Advantages - **Proprietary Technology**: Charm designs, builds, and operates a fleet of mobile fast pyrolyzers. This is a core differentiator, allowing them to process biomass on-site. - **Permanent Storage**: The bio-oil is injected underground where it sinks and solidifies, ensuring permanent carbon removal, unlike some other methods that are susceptible to reversal. - **Established Track Record**: The company has completed thousands of tons of carbon removal for high-profile customers like Stripe, Shopify, JP Morgan, and Microsoft. - **Transparency**: Charm leads the industry with a transparent ledger and a verification model that reduces the risk of over-crediting. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling Capacity**: Increasing the number of pyrolyzers and injection sites to meet growing demand for carbon removal credits. - **Decarbonizing Steel**: At scale, Charm's bio-oil can be used to reduce iron ore into metallic iron, helping to decarbonize industrial emissions from steelmaking. - **Community Impact**: Charm partners with communities to create new jobs, reduce wildfire risk, improve air quality, and safely close abandoned oil wells. - **Expanding Product Lines**: Developing new markets for biochar and other co-products. ## Why Work Here - **Mission-Driven**: The company is focused on reversing climate change, offering a strong sense of purpose. - **Culture**: Employee reviews on Indeed highlight a "great team, mission & culture," "really strong leadership," and a collaborative environment.
