Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous - a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings go up in a single day, with minimal labour. We're a growing team of engineers, operators and technicians from diverse backgrounds, including consumer tech, finance and media, and companies like Dyson, Shopify, Meta and Tesla. It's still the early days of building the company, and this is a chance to make an outsized impact on a problem that matters. From day one, you'll be working with an experienced founding team, backed by a $32M Series B led by Khosla Ventures and Plural, alongside other renowned investors. Monumental is based in the city centre of Amsterdam, in a beautiful facility with a fully equipped workshop and robot testing floor. We build the whole stack in-house, hardware and software. Our work involves building robots in our workshop and houses on real construction sites, so we're onsite five days a week. Read more on why we believe you should spend your time working on construction, and learn about [our vision](https://www.monumental.co/our-vision/) and [company](https://www.monumental.co/about/). You’ll work closely with our People Ops team, supporting colleagues from their first day to their last and keeping our HR administration accurate and up to date. This is a role for someone near the start of their career who already has hands-on experience in People Ops or HR in the Netherlands. Fluent Dutch, spoken and written, and experience with Dutch HR processes are hard requirements. You don’t need a background in robotics or construction. Your work will help new colleagues get started properly, employees get clear answers and the company keep people records it can trust. Some tasks are repetitive and require patience. You’ll also improve the processes behind them, so recurring problems get fixed. Your focus will be People Ops: onboarding and offboarding, employment administration, employee questions and the practical processes that keep a growing team running. As you learn the business, you’ll take on greater responsibility within People Ops. ## What you'll do - Run onboarding and offboarding. Coordinate paperwork, start dates, introductions and checklists with the relevant teams. Make sure new colleagues have what they need and departures are handled carefully and on time. - Keep HR administration accurate. Prepare and track employment documents and contract changes, maintain employee records and follow up on missing information or upcoming deadlines. - Support Dutch people processes. Keep leave and absence records up to date, coordinate the employee changes and information needed for payroll, and support routine HR processes under the guidance of the People Ops team. - Be a helpful point of contact. Answer practical questions from colleagues in Dutch and English, communicate clearly with external HR providers and flag sensitive or complex issues to the right person. - Improve how we work. Spot recurring errors, document processes and use HR systems and software to reduce manual work while protecting employee information and checking the results carefully. ## What we're looking for - Fluent Dutch, spoken and written (required). You can independently handle employee questions, HR documents and communication with Dutch service providers. You’re also comfortable working in English with our international team. - Hands-on People Ops or HR experience in the Netherlands (required). You’ve worked with Dutch HR administration and employment processes, such as contracts, onboarding, leave or absence administration and payroll inputs. This is a junior role, but it is not a first introduction to Dutch HR. - Accuracy you take responsibility for. You check contracts and employee records against the agreed details before sharing them, including names, dates, working hours and compensation. You ask when something is unclear, catch mistakes in your own work and use feedback to prevent them from recurring. - Sound prioritisation and follow-through. You organise your work around deadlines and the impact on employees and the business. You can distinguish a contract needed for tomorrow’s starter from admin that can wait, clarify trade-offs when requests compete and keep people informed until the work is finished. - A helpful, hands-on attitude. You’re happy to help with the practical work that makes People Ops run: scanning documents, giving a new colleague an office tour or moving employee records into our HR system. You bring the same care and friendly manner to routine requests as to larger projects. - Clear communication and discretion. You’re approachable and responsive with colleagues, ask questions when needed and handle confidential employee information carefully. - Comfort with HR systems and spreadsheets. You’re willing to learn new tools and interested in finding better ways to do recurring work. - Nice to have: experience in a growing company or improving an HR process. You don’t need to have done every task listed here, but Dutch fluency and Dutch People Ops or HR experience are essential. ## What you’ll gain You’ll learn how People Ops supports a company that designs, manufactures and deploys its own robots. Working closely with the People Ops team, you’ll build experience across the employee lifecycle and develop your ability to solve practical HR problems, improve processes and take responsibility for more complex work. Why Monumental? Joining Monumental means being at the forefront of a movement aimed at making significant strides in the construction industry. Here, your work has the potential to impact not just the company but the future of how we build. If you're driven by innovation, eager to tackle complex challenges, and ready to make a tangible difference, we want to hear from you. For open applications (where you don't see an exact role match), please reach out to us at: iwanttojoin@monumental.co - share with us the most interesting or challenging project you've worked on, why you want to join and your CV or portfolio. Unfortunately we do not currently support internships. If you meet the Dutch language and Dutch People Ops or HR experience requirements but don’t meet every other qualification, do get in touch. We welcome people who focus on outcomes and are eager to learn on the job. ## About Monumental ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Automating on-site construction using a vertically integrated suite of autonomous robots controlled by software and machine vision. - **Entity Type**: Private ($25M total funding) - **Headquarters**: Amsterdam, Netherlands (Plantage area, near Artis zoo) - **Founded**: 2021 - **Founders**: Salar and Sebas (full names not publicly disclosed) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Construction robotics / autonomous construction - **Target customers**: B2B – construction companies (currently deploying on real sites in the Netherlands) - **Mission**: To make construction primarily software-defined and autonomous, working toward a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings can be built within a single day with minimal labor. ## Products & Services - **Autonomous electric construction robots**: A suite of robots that perform on-site masonry (building facades, canal retaining walls, etc.). The system is vertically integrated – Monumental designs its own hardware, control software, and machine vision pipeline. Robots are treated as a distributed computing system, using Intel NUCs, Nvidia GPUs, RP2040s, and Power over Ethernet instead of traditional industrial PLCs or CAN bus. ## Market Standing - **Valuation / Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding raised – **$25M** (date not specified, but recent) - **Notable Investors**: Plural, Hummingbird, Northzone, Foundamental, NP-Hard - **Growth Signals**: - Robots are already deployed on real construction sites in the Netherlands for paying customers. - Team size ~70 people (20 R&D, 30 deployment, 10 workshop, 10 operations/BD/founders). Split indicates scaling deployment operations. - Expanding into the UK market (posting for a Founding Robot Operator, UK). ## Competitive Advantages - **Vertical integration**: Full ownership of the stack from microcontroller code to robot assembly and control, enabling rapid, weekly iterations on both hardware and software. - **Modern tech stack**: Control software in Rust, simulation and digital twin in TypeScript with Rust compiled to WebAssembly, machine learning in Python. This contrasts with the industry’s typical PLC/CAN‑bus approach. - **Rapid prototyping culture**: Hardware is prototyped in-house (CNC, 3D printing, turning), allowing fast derisking and iteration. - **Product‑outcome focus**: The team measures success in finished walls and building components, not just robot uptime. ## Strategic Focus - **Incremental, achievable goals** in a traditionally change-resistant industry: start with small wins (facades, retaining walls) and scale. - **Expand geographic footprint** (UK already targeted) and increase the number of robot operators and deployment teams. - **Continue to iterate on hardware/software weekly** while maintaining a pragmatic, outcome‑oriented engineering culture. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Office‑first, 5 days a week in the Amsterdam city‑center office (hybrid/remote not supported). The environment is fast‑paced, high‑ambiguity, and highly collaborative. - **Engineering**: Work on a vertically integrated stack – Rust, TypeScript, WebAssembly, Python, embedded C, hardware design – with weekly shipping cycles. Engineers have outsized impact, owning projects end‑to‑end. - **Team**: ~70 people from diverse backgrounds (Palantir, Tesla, Qualcomm, Dyson, Meta, Shopify). Many are repeat founders; previous robotics experience is not required – learning fast is valued. - **Perks**: Competitive salary + generous equity; beautiful office opposite Artis zoo with in‑house workshop and robot testing facility; visa sponsorship and relocation assistance for highly skilled migrants. - **Impact**: Build physical products that affect the built environment, with the mission of making affordable, beautiful housing a reality. ## Sources 1.
