You will collaborate with our test team, to run remote testing on Lightmatter hardware, including SerDes, high-speed analog, and photonic chips. You will define test plans, and correlate test results with your simulations. ## Qualifications - Pursuing a PhD in Photonics, Optics, or Electrical Engineering with a specialization in optical communications. - Experience with optical link simulations in commercial tools such as VPIphotonics, Matlab, Virtuoso or ADS. - Highly motivated to learn about commercial applications of silicon photonics and optical communications. - Courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in electromagnetics (wave propagation, guided waves), semiconductor devices, semiconductor physics, optics, scientific computing, numerical methods, signals and systems, statistics, thermal physics, analog electronics. - Experience with Python programming. - Understanding of data collection and analysis. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. This role is located in Lightmatter’s Toronto office. We offer competitive compensation. The base salary range for this role determined based on location, experience, educational background, and market data. Salary Range: total compensation goes beyond base salary, it also includes a new hire equity grant, annual performance-based equity, and other rewards that recognize your impact and contribution. $53—$70 CAD ## Benefits - Comprehensive Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision) - Retirement Savings Matching Program - Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D) - Generous Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays) - Paid Family Leave - Short Term & Long Term Disability - Training & Development - Commuter Benefits - Flexible, hybrid workplace model - Equity grants (applicable to full-time employees) Benefits eligibility may vary depending on your employment status and location. Lightmatter recruits, employs, trains, compensates, and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status, and other protected status as required by applicable law. Export Control Candidates should have capacity to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control laws. ## About Lightmatter ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Lightmatter builds photonic interconnects and computing infrastructure to eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks in AI and high-performance computing, enabling the next era of AI scaling. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series D, $850M total funding) - **Headquarters**: Mountain View, California, USA - **Founded**: 2017 - **Founders**: Nicholas Harris, PhD (CEO), Darius Bunandar, PhD (Head of Machine Learning), and a third co-founder (Chief Scientist) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Silicon Photonics / AI Infrastructure / Semiconductor - **Target customers**: Hyperscale data center operators, AI labs (training frontier models), cloud service providers, and enterprise AI teams - **Mission or purpose**: To make computers keep getting better by using light instead of electricity for data movement, solving the fundamental bandwidth bottleneck that limits AI scaling. ## Products & Services - **Passage™ Platform**: A family of 3D-stacked silicon photonics interconnects (NPO, OBO, 2D/3D CPO, 3D interposers) that provide "Edgeless I/O"—unlimited bandwidth scaling for AI supercomputers.
