Hut 8 is on a mission to build and operate some of the world’s largest data centers for next-generation computing workloads, including AI, Colocation, Cloud, and Bitcoin Mining. We are proud to offer interesting and challenging opportunities for individuals who want to build teams, solve problems, and make an impact from day one. If you’re an ambitious individual looking for a career that is as rewarding as it is challenging, you’ve come to the right place. ## About the Role Hut 8 is building large-scale energy and digital infrastructure, including data center campuses with capital budgets in excess of $500 million per project. We are seeking a Principal, Project Controls to serve as the cost, schedule, and financial conscience of our construction program. Embedded within project teams, this role owns project estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting across active developments, and acts as the connective tissue between field execution and corporate finance (FP&A), Treasury, and Strategic Finance. This is a high-visibility position: you will prepare and deliver weekly reporting to executive leadership, and you must be comfortable challenging project managers, general contractors, and vendors when the numbers, schedule, or scope don't hold up. Independence, sound judgment, and full transparency in escalating problems are essential to success in this role. ## Key Responsibilities Project Controls & Estimating - Own project controls across assigned capital projects ($100M+): budgets, cost tracking, forecasting (EAC/ETC), change management, contingency management, and cash flow projections. - Develop and pressure-test project estimates at each stage gate — from conceptual and feasibility estimates through GMP validation and buyout — and reconcile estimates against actuals. - Monitor contractor schedules and cost reports; perform variance analysis on cost and schedule and drive corrective action with the project team. - Review pay applications, change orders, and invoices for accuracy, contract compliance, and alignment to budget before approval. Construction Finance & FP&A - Partner with corporate FP&A and Accounting on capital planning, accruals, monthly close support, and reconciliation of project costs between PMIS and ERP systems. - Maintain project-level financial models supporting capital commitments, funding draws, and reforecasts. - Support development of annual and multi-year capital budgets for the construction portfolio. Reporting & Executive Communication - Prepare and present weekly project status and cost reports to the C-suite; deliver monthly portfolio-level reporting covering budget health, forecast movement, risks, and key decisions required. - Communicate clearly and credibly with executives — distilling complex project data into concise, decision-ready reporting. - Establish and maintain consistent weekly and monthly reporting cadences, templates, and KPIs across projects. Risk, Escalation & Site Presence - Proactively identify and flag cost, schedule, scope, and commercial issues — with a full-escalation mindset: no surprises to leadership. - Push back constructively on project managers, contractors, and vendors when forecasts, change orders, or schedules are not supportable. - Travel to active project sites (25%+ of time, self-managed cadence) to validate progress, verify percent-complete against billings, and stay connected to field realities. ## Qualifications - 4–7+ years of experience in project controls, cost engineering, construction finance, or FP&A supporting large capital construction projects; data center, mission-critical, energy, or heavy industrial experience strongly preferred. - Direct experience on projects of $500M+ total installed cost, working embedded with project delivery teams. - Demonstrated ability to challenge and influence project managers, contractors, and senior stakeholders with data-driven analysis. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience reporting to executive or C-suite audiences. - Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience). - Willingness and ability to travel 25%+ to project sites across North America. Systems & Tools - PMIS: Hands-on experience with project management information systems (e.g., Procore, Kahua, e-Builder, Unifier, or similar). - ERP: NetSuite strongly preferred; experience with QuickBooks or comparable ERP/accounting platforms acceptable. - Excel: Advanced proficiency — complex models, pivot tables, lookups; Power BI or similar dashboarding a plus. - Scheduling: Working familiarity with Primavera P6 and/or MS Project a plus. ## ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT This role is in office at our corporate headquarters in the Brickell area of Miami, Florida. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. WHAT MAKES HUT 8 A GREAT PLACE TO WORK Hut 8 offers a benefits and wellness program that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and short-term and long-term disability insurance, as well as paid time off. We are proud to invest in building the best team in the industry. At all levels of the organization, we are driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, radical transparency, and relentless growth mentality. At Hut 8, you will have the opportunity to: ▶ Work with bright, driven peers from a range of educational and professional backgrounds including software development, energy, engineering, entrepreneurship, investment banking, private equity, and management consulting ▶ Design and pitch new products, services, and other initiatives to a leadership team consisting of serial entrepreneurs and seasoned executives and backed by a board of directors consisting of industry veterans of energy, finance, and government ▶ Debate ideas and alternatives in a truly meritocratic setting where the learning curve is steep and the lessons come from both senior and junior members of the team ▶ Build a lifelong network of friends and professional connections at the cutting-edge intersection of technology, energy, and infrastructure ## About Hut 8 ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Hut 8 is an energy infrastructure platform that integrates power, digital infrastructure, and compute at scale to fuel next-generation, energy-intensive technologies including Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing (HPC/AI). - **Entity Type**: Public (NASDAQ: HUT; TSX: HUT) - **Headquarters**: Miami, Florida, United States - **Founded**: 2017 - **Founders**: Not publicly listed as individual founders; the company emerged from the Hut 8 Mining Corp. lineage. ## Core Business - **Primary industries**: Energy Infrastructure, Digital Infrastructure, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI) Compute, Bitcoin Mining. - **Target customers**: B2B; primarily enterprise and institutional clients needing purpose-built data centers, colocation, and compute capacity for AI and HPC workloads. This allows rapid, cost-effective commercialization. - **Scale & Financial Backing**: A 1 GW campus (Beacon Point) with a $9.8B contracted lease and $4.25B in investment-grade debt financing is a rare, institutional-grade asset in the AI infrastructure space. - **Integrated Platform**: They own the full stack—power, physical data centers, and compute operations—enabling them to optimize assets for the highest risk-adjusted return over time. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling AI Infrastructure**: The primary current focus is commercializing the Beacon Point campus and building out River Bend for AI compute. The Highrise.ai subsidiary is central to this push. - **Energy Origination**: Aggressively acquiring and developing new power assets (interconnects, substations) across North America. - **Platform Optimization**: Actively managing the portfolio to transition assets from Bitcoin mining to higher-return HPC/AI use cases over time. - **Capital Discipline**: Using creative financing (investment-grade notes, JVs) to fund massive capital expenditures while maintaining a disciplined balance sheet. ## Why Work Here - **High-Impact Work**: Employees work at the intersection of energy and AI—two of the most transformative industries. The company is building infrastructure that powers the next generation of technology. - **Culture & Values**: Certified as a **Great Place to Work®** and included in Newsweek's America's Greatest Companies. Culture is described as "ownership mindset," "merit-based decision-making," "no room for ego," and "the best idea wins." CEO Asher Genoot emphasizes "substance over flash." - **Growth Trajectory**: The company is in a hyper-growth phase (55% headcount growth YoY, 117% increase in job postings). This offers rapid career advancement and the chance to shape a scaling organization. - **Work Environment**: Headquarters in **Miami, FL**, with roles available in San Francisco, Baton Rouge, Nueces County (TX), and remote options for some positions (e.g., Director, Energy Origination is remote). - **Notable Perks**: Working with a team of "sector veterans and proven builder-operators." Emphasis on intellectual rigor, ownership, and solving hard problems at scale. ## Sources 1. [Hut 8 Corporate Website](https://www.hut8.com/) 2.
