Our mission is to build the world's most human AI phone agents. Thousands of businesses rely on Bland AI to automate customer conversations while delivering an experience customers actually enjoy. Voice AI is a nascent space with no established design conventions. The patterns that define how people build, configure, and interact with AI agents are being written right now by a small number of companies, including us. We have a strong, creative brand and a rapidly expanding product surface. ## The role You'd own how the product looks and how it behaves: the interaction model, the visual language, and the design system that establishes both in the codebase. You'd work day to day with our lead designer and PM. They live in product direction and there's no shortage of opinion there, so you won't be starting from a blank page on what to build. This role is responsible for how users interact with the product and how it looks when it ships. This role reports to our Design Lead. ## What you'd own - The design system. Architecture, components, and motion. You should be familiar with design.md files and enforcing usage in an AI-driven environment. - Interaction design for major surfaces, from how something should behave through the shipped UI. - Establishing the product’s visual direction and evolving it as the product surfaces expand. - Pushing PRs of frontend polish in the codebase (don’t worry, we’re very AI-friendly). - Contribute to solving product problems with the lead designer and PM, then taking the craft the rest of the way. ## What you'd be designing Customers use our dashboard to build, test, evaluate, and run LLM voice agents. Behavior gets configured instead of scripted, none of the outputs are deterministic. Our users are technical and non-technical, from CIOs and call center experts to our in-house FDE team. We're most of the way through a ground-up redesign of the dashboard and we’ll be landing it in the next quarter, so this role will be a major contributor early and meaningfully. ## How we work - Opening a PR in the morning and merging it that afternoon is completely normal, and it's one of the better things about working here. - Priorities move around. You might start the week on one surface and spend Wednesday somewhere else, and you'll usually have three or more things going at once. - That pace depends on AI tools. Running several Claude sessions at once to keep your PRs moving is an ordinary day around here, and we expect you to keep pushing on how you work. - The bar is high and we're not shy about it. We want the design held to the same standard as the model: good enough that other people in voice AI look at what we ship and copy it. ## What we're looking for Visual work that stands on its own. We want to open your portfolio, look at something you shipped, and be genuinely impressed. You have opinions about how software should look in the age of generative design. A design system you built that made it into production. A clean Figma library matters less to us than how it was adopted and used in a product. Real depth in interaction design. Snappy hover state animations, what happens in the gap between a click and a result, how a dense table behaves while it's loading or empty or wrong. Comfortability with AI coding tools. You aren’t afraid to implement frontend polish. 4+ years shipping web products, including time as the designer at an early-stage B2B SaaS company. You've worked on hard surfaces: data-heavy dashboards, workflow tools, anything where the user configures behavior instead of filling in fields. Curiosity about the product itself. You ask engineers how things work, you want to know how the agents behave a level below the screens, and you go get that context rather than waiting for it in a ticket. We’re a lean team and each of us needs to know the product well enough to prioritize which features get built or not. Fluency with current tools. Figma mastery is assumed. Past that, you're using Weave, Flora, or whatever comes after them, along with modern prototyping tools, as part of how you normally work. Bonus - Brand-level thinking—Product has the opportunity to both work with and make changes to our brand. - Motion or generative visual work - Ability to write coherent FE code ## About Bland ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Bland provides an enterprise voice AI platform for building, deploying, and monitoring AI phone agents that hold natural conversations at scale. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series C, over $100M raised) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, USA - **Founded**: 2023 - **Founders**: Isaiah Granet and a second co-founder (Y Combinator Summer 2023 batch) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: AI voice agents / enterprise AI infrastructure - **Target customers**: Large enterprises, regulated industries (healthcare, finance, insurance, etc.) – B2B - **Mission**: To automate phone calls that previously required a human, with security and trust built from the ground up. ## Products & Services - **Bland Voice AI Platform (SaaS / On‑premises)**: A full‑stack platform combining custom speech‑to‑text, large language model (LLM), text‑to‑speech, and telephony. Supports inbound and outbound calls across voice, SMS, iMessage, and web chat. Unified memory across channels and real‑time observability. - **Conversational Pathways**: A proprietary programming language that enables users to create branching, deterministic call flows to reduce hallucinations. - **Forward Deployed Engineering**: Professional services that build the first production agent end‑to‑end in 2–6 weeks, integrating with the customer’s CRM, telephony, and scheduling tools. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly disclosed (latest round: Series C) - **Key Metric (Funding)**: Over $100M total raised (Series C announced in 2025) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Y Combinator (S23), Team Ignite Ventures, Max Levchin (PayPal co‑founder), Jeff Lawson (Twilio co‑founder) - **Growth Signals**: 522M+ calls resolved to date, 47M+ calls per month, ~100 employees, $2M ARR achieved within four months of the initial pivot. Certifications include SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, PCI DSS v4.0, and GDPR – enabling adoption in highly regulated verticals. ## Competitive Advantages - **Full‑stack ownership**: Bland built its own voice models, LLM, text‑to‑speech, and speech‑to‑text – not a wrapper around third‑party APIs. This provides lower latency (~400ms) and full control over model behavior. - **Compliance‑first design**: SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, and GDPR out of the box. Self‑hosted and on‑premises deployments available for sensitive workloads. - **Proprietary orchestration**: The Conversational Pathways language allows deterministic, auditable call flows that reduce hallucination risk. - **Rapid deployment**: Typical go‑live in 30 days with dedicated Forward Deployed Engineer support. ## Strategic Focus - **Regulated industries**: Deepening traction in healthcare, financial services, and insurance where compliance and data residency are critical. - **Global expansion**: Multi‐language support (40+ languages, real‑time translation in 23) and data residency options in US, EU, and APAC. - **Channel expansion**: Unifying agent memory across voice and messaging to offer a single omnichannel AI assistant. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: “We hire for obsession, not pedigree.” Emphasis on work ethic, accountability, and direct ownership. Flat structure with minimal approval chains (“No committees. No approval chains. Ship the right thing, measure the result, iterate.”) - **Engineering focus**: The company built its own models and infrastructure – ideal for engineers who want to work on frontier AI problems rather than stitching together APIs. - **Location & flexibility**: Based in San Francisco with remote (US) options for some roles. The office environment is startup‑intense; the co‑founder famously slept on a closet floor during the early pivot. - **Notable perks**: Not explicitly listed, but the company highlights a “build it yourself” ethos, early‑stage equity, and direct impact on a product that processes tens of millions of calls per month. ## Sources 1.
