We're looking for someone who's ready to own real scope: shaping how the market understands our products, sharpening what we build next, and producing the content that fuels our GTM engine. You'll work closely with product owners, not downstream of them, bringing customer and market signals directly into roadmap conversations, and pushing back when priorities drift from what the market actually needs. At the same time, you'll be a prolific creator: fully focused on powering the pipeline, generating a steady stream of sharp, credible content that trains our sales team, fuels campaigns, and earns visibility in an AI-driven search and discourse landscape. This is a hands-on, high-output role for someone who wants outsized ownership. If you’ve had experience in fast-paced product marketing roles at developer platform, AI, or API companies, this could be the perfect role for you. ## How You'll Make an Impact - Represent the customer: Champion the needs and pain points of our customers through interview analysis, market research, competitive intelligence, and by engaging with analysts and our sales teams. - Own the story: Create positioning and messaging frameworks for our products, personas, and features by working closely with product and sales to understand needs and pain points. Develop persona specific messaging tailored for the needs of demand generation, SDR, sales, and channel partners. - Enable the team: Ensure everyone at the company understands our product and our customers in a way that is relevant to their jobs. Working with Product Management, produce sales collateral including playbooks, sales plays, pitch decks, case studies, competitive analysis etc. - Launch the product: Build and drive the strategy for launches by building plans and partnering with product management, demand generation, sales, and customer success. - Educate the market: Work with Demand Generation on a content strategy to support our pipeline goals; produce creative, compelling collateral (blogs, whitepapers, webpages, demos, videos, etc) and campaigns. - Bring your unique perspective: Develop and implement best practices and frameworks that improve outcomes for the company and the impact of product marketing. ## What You Bring to the Table - View the written word and narrative as craft, not something to outsource to LLMs. - You’ve built (or helped build) product marketing as a function from scratch within a fast-paced startup environment - You know how to turn deeply technical capabilities into reasons a buyer actually cares. - Have strong product marketing experience for LLMs, AI agents, developer tools, APIs, or technical products. - Have a proven track record of owning launches end-to-end in a fast-paced environment. - Have experience working with and guiding senior partners to launch new products, features, and programs. - Excel at cross-functional collaboration. - Possess strong storytelling skills, with experience crafting compelling narratives that interrupt patterns and stand out from the crowd. You roll up your sleeves to write, record, and publish content yourself. - You have a strong product marketing background working on technical products that directly influence the growth of the company - You represent the voice-of-the-customer and can distill actionable product roadmap recommendations from customer feedback, market research, and competitive analysis. ## Who You Are Curious, sharp, energetic and a little relentless. You push on ideas, including your own. You want to win, and you want to win as a team. ## About Unusual Ventures ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: A venture capital firm that provides hands-on operational support and a dedicated engagement model to help technical founders of enterprise AI software startups achieve product-market fit. - **Entity Type**: Private (venture capital fund) - **Headquarters**: Menlo Park, California, United States - **Founded**: 2018 - **Founders**: Jyoti Bansal and John Vrionis ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Venture Capital / Financial Services, with a focus on seed-stage enterprise AI software startups. - **Target customers**: Technical founders of early-stage startups (B2B through founders). - **Mission or purpose statement**: “Raise the bar for what founders should expect from their venture investors” and give technical founders the best odds of finding product-market fit. ## Products & Services - **Unusual Venture Capital**: Seed-stage investment in enterprise AI software startups. - **Unusual Founder Services**: A team of full-time operators embedded with portfolio companies to execute customer discovery, go-to-market strategy, and product-market fit work. - **Unusual Academy**: An immersive program where founders work side by side with Unusual’s founders and expert operators. - **Community & Events**: Quarterly founders events, founder academy, monthly intimate dinners with customer prospects, and go-to-market tools. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not applicable (private fund; not publicly disclosed). - **Key Metric**: 20 employees (as of latest data); 51,647 LinkedIn followers (+16.5% yearly); 10 active job postings (+100% yearly). - **Notable Investors/Partners**: LPs are primarily non-profits (hospitals, foundations, HBCUs). Offices in Menlo Park (HQ) and San Francisco; team also distributed across the US and Australia. Remote/hybrid policy not explicitly stated, but the presence of multiple offices suggests flexibility. - **Notable perks**: Opportunity to work alongside top technical founders and industry veterans; direct involvement in the product-market fit process; exposure to a concentrated portfolio of cutting-edge AI startups. - **Career path**: Roles across venture operations, sales, finance, and programs. The firm actively hires for roles that support portfolio companies (e.g., Founding Account Executive, VP of Engineering, Software Engineer) as well as internal functions (e.g., Director of Programs, VP of Sales). ## Sources 1.
