Build a newsworthy career at the FT. ## The role The Financial Times is seeking a Production Journalist in the Opinion and Analysis department. The successful candidate will work on the FT’s Opinion, Big Read, Work and Careers, Leaders and Letters content both online and in print. They will work closely with Alice Fishburn, opinion editor, and Alistair Hayes, chief production journalist. This position would be ideal for an ambitious journalist seeking to expand their experience, participate in the lively editorial debates that shape the FT’s coverage and make a mark while working in a flexible and collegial team. ## Key responsibilities - Flair for writing catchy headlines, standfirsts and captions, an eye for punchy print headlines and an ability to set up and edit page layouts - Confidence to liaise with columnists and leader writers - Co-operation and flexibility are vital, as are tact and diplomacy, since we work in a close-knit team with a varied workload - Speed and confidence under deadline pressure - Innovative proposals to improve reader engagement will be encouraged - Familiarity with Spark, Methode and Slack, to cover web and print content - A willingness to produce and edit the FT’s letters section, as required - Basic page layout skills, or an enthusiasm to learn. - Confidence using data and charts. ## Who we are looking for This role involves meticulous sub-editing, editing, revising, web production and page layout across the Features sections. The successful candidate will be expected to join the rota of stand-in Letters editors and work one in five Sundays. Training will be provided. This position handles some of the FT’s most influential and closely read copy. The successful candidate will be given ample opportunities to shine and will be encouraged to have their say in how the department and its content evolve.
