The role involves working closely with hardware and firmware engineers to bring products from concept to production, including driver development, BSP configuration, and cloud communication integration. ## Job description ## About Perry Weather Perry Weather is the weather safety standard for organizations that operate outdoors. We combine on-site weather hardware with a software platform that automates alerts, siren activations, and safety decisions for more than 3,000 organizations — from the PGA of America, the NFL, and MLB to Turner Construction, thousands of school districts, cities, and golf courses. We've grown 80%+ annually for five consecutive years, and are continuing to grow. We're headquartered in Dallas at The Centrum, in the Oak Lawn neighborhood, where our teams work together every day to help organizations make faster and safer decisions when weather puts people, assets, and operations at risk. ## About the Role We're a small hardware and firmware team, and we own everything we do, end to end. Our devices run the gamut from lower power microelectronics to high power sirens, powered via solar and mains power with battery backup, connect over cellular, and live outdoors - on golf courses, rooftops, and 30 foot poles at construction sites - with a minimum lifespan of years. We have thousands of units deployed across the country, and that fleet is growing rapidly. You'll work alongside two other cross-functional engineers to take products from concept through production - and then keep them alive in the field for their entire service life. You'll help design it, ship it, monitor it, debug it remotely, and (rarely) travel to the unit to diagnose on-site. ## Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain the C++ application software that runs our devices - sensor integration, audio/alerting control, and connectivity. - Continually improve the reliability, observability and stability of our devices while supporting new features - Debug and resolve issues across a fleet of thousands of deployed units using remote diagnostics, telemetry, and logs - and (rarely) a site visit. - Work with serial and industrial protocols (RS485, Modbus, I²C) to integrate sensors and peripherals. - Build and maintain device-to-cloud communication over cellular (MQTT, TLS/mTLS) and secure OTA update mechanisms. - Maintain and extend our embedded Linux platform (Debian on ARM): systemd services, udev, device tree, and occasional kernel/BSP work - with support and mentorship from the team. - Collaborate with our hardware engineers on board bring-up, schematic review, and hardware debug at the bench. - Build automated testing and tooling for embedded targets, including hardware-in-the-loop where it pays off. - Balance a large and diverse pool of work while collaborating with product management and the needs of other teams. - Help break down, prioritize, and plan work on a small team where your judgment directly shapes the product. ## Requirements - B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science — or equivalent demonstrated experience. - 6+ years of software engineering experience, with strong C++ on Linux. - Deep comfort with Linux as a development and deployment target: processes, networking, systems, debugging with GDB, reading logs, and working close to the OS. - Strong debugging instincts and the persistence to chase intermittent, hard-to-reproduce field issues to root cause. - Python or similar language experience for tooling and scripting. - Clear communication and comfort owning problems end to end on a small team. ## Nice to Have - Embedded Linux platform experience: BSP work, device tree, U-Boot, Yocto or Buildroot. - Industrial or field-deployed device background: SCADA/RTU, telecom infrastructure, traffic/ITS, telematics, EV charging, or similar long-lifecycle outdoor systems. - Experience with cellular (LTE) modems (AT commands, carrier integration) and fleet connectivity. - Ability to read schematics and use bench instruments (multimeter, logic analyzer, oscilloscope) during bring-up and debug. - Comfort occasionally working on supporting backend changes in the cloud: C# .NET, event driven development paradigms. - Experience using AI agents as a tool to increase productivity ## Benefits - You'll want to come into the office. Our Oak Lawn office isn't just a place to sit — it's where ideas move fast and culture stays strong. The whole team is here Monday through Friday, which means real collaboration, no chasing people down over Slack, and a genuinely fun place to spend your work days. - Your wellbeing is covered. Competitive health insurance, 401(k) with employer matching, and a full suite of voluntary benefits, because you shouldn't have to think twice about the basics. - Good people, good times. Monthly All-Hands, Office Olympics, happy hours, and more. We take the work seriously and the culture seriously too. - You're getting in early, and that matters. We're growing fast, but the biggest opportunities are still ahead. The people joining now will help shape what Perry Weather becomes. ## About Perry Weather ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Perry Weather provides a weather safety platform that combines on‑site hardware and cloud‑based software to deliver real‑time monitoring and automated alerts for lightning, heat, wind, and other hazardous conditions. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series B) - **Headquarters**: Dallas, Texas, United States - **Founded**: 2013 - **Founders**: Colin Perry ## Core Business - **Primary industry/industries**: Weather technology, safety software, IoT hardware - **Target customers**: B2B – K‑12 / collegiate athletics, golf courses, parks & recreation departments, construction firms, energy companies, and airports. - **Mission or purpose**: Simplify weather safety, protect lives, enforce safety policies, and minimize operational disruption. ## Products & Services - **Weather Monitoring & Alerting System**: On‑site weather stations that measure lightning, WBGT (heat stress), wind, precipitation, and air quality; data updates every five minutes in a dashboard and mobile app. Automated alerts (SMS, push, outdoor sirens) are triggered by custom safety policies, with automatic all‑clears and lightning countdown timers. - **Policy‑Based Alerting**: Clients define rules for lightning, heat, wind, etc. Percy Weather enforces consistent notifications across the entire team, eliminating confusion. - **Historical Data & Reporting**: Site‑specific logs of weather delays and alerts support compliance verification, claims management, and operational planning. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed - **Total Funding**: USD $21.25 million (Series A of $6.25M in Oct 2022, Series B of $15M in Oct 2024, both led by Arthur Ventures) - **Key Metric**: Trusted by over 5,000 organizations; more than 200 million alerts sent. - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Arthur Ventures (lead investor); Official Weather Platform of The PGA of America; Korey Stringer Institute (Perry Weather Heat Lab). - **Growth Signals**: Employee headcount of 88 (+24.7% year‑over‑year); actively expanding into construction, energy, and airport markets; 7 open positions listed on LinkedIn (as of mid‑2026).
