Earth Force is building the technology that dramatically increases the pace and scale of fuels reduction and forest thinning—creating resilient forests and protecting people and communities from the devastating effects of wildfire. We develop integrated computer vision systems—hardware through UI—deployed on forestry machines operating in remote forest environments. Our platform measures trees in real time, automates production reporting, and enables precision silviculture at a scale the industry has never seen. We work primarily with the U.S. Forest Service and their implementation partners under multi-year program agreements. We’re commercially deployed and approaching scale. Our next season of growth will deliver on the capabilities our tech has developed, broadening the trust we've built with our partners to serve those working to protect land from catastrophic wildfire. ## About the Role Earth Force is seeking a Senior Field Technician to support the deployment, maintenance, and operation of our technology on forestry equipment across the northern Sierra Nevada region. Based in or near the Reno–Tahoe area, this role will be responsible for installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing integrated hardware and software systems on heavy machinery operating in remote forest environments. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this is a hands-on, individual contributor role requiring strong electrical and mechanical skills, sound safety judgment, and the ability to independently manage field assignments from preparation through completion. The ideal candidate is a resourceful, experienced field technician who is comfortable working around heavy equipment, navigating remote terrain, solving technical problems, and collaborating with equipment operators, customers, and internal teams. ## Qualifications - 2–5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in field service, equipment maintenance, installation, repair, or a similar technical role, or demonstrated equivalent capability. - Demonstrated ability to independently plan and execute equipment installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and recovery in challenging field environments. - Strong working knowledge of 12V/24V electrical systems, including power and ground connections, circuit protection, wiring, and electrical diagnostics. - Hands-on mechanical and fabrication skills, including mounting equipment, drilling, modifying brackets, routing and protecting wiring, and adapting installations to different machinery. - Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, hardware, software, and connectivity issues and determine when escalation is necessary. - Experience managing tools, spare parts, test equipment, and materials to ensure field assignments are completed safely and efficiently. - Ability to safely navigate remote worksites, operate 4WD vehicles on forest and unimproved roads, and access equipment on foot while carrying tools or materials when necessary. - Strong safety awareness and sound judgment when working around heavy machinery, active jobsites, and changing environmental conditions. - Clear communication and documentation skills, including the ability to coordinate with operators, contractors, customers, and internal technical teams. - Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and willingness to travel regularly throughout the region, including to remote project sites. ## Preferred - Experience working with forestry, logging, construction, agricultural, mining, or other heavy equipment. - Background in field applications, field service engineering, mobile equipment installation, or heavy equipment maintenance. - Familiarity with Linux, networking, embedded computing systems, command-line tools, or technical data retrieval. - Exposure to computer vision, LiDAR, cameras, GPS, sensors, mapping, or other field-deployed technology. - Experience training equipment operators or customers on technical systems and troubleshooting procedures. - Experience developing technical documentation, installation procedures, maintenance checklists, or troubleshooting guides. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, working independently in the field, and applying practical technical skills to emerging technology. You'll play a critical role in keeping Earth Force systems operational, supporting our growing regional deployments, and helping scale technology that protects forests and communities from catastrophic wildfire. ## About Earth Force ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Earth Force provides precision fuel treatments at landscape scale using real-time sensors, software, and autonomous machinery to reduce wildfire risk and promote forest health. - **Entity Type**: Private (Seed stage) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, United States - **Founded**: 2022 - **Founders**: Justin Dawe (CEO) and Dan Schreter (Co-founder) ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Environmental Services / Climate Technology (wildfire mitigation and forest management) - **Target customers**: Government agencies, land managers, forestry contractors, and conservation organizations (B2B / B2G) - **Mission or purpose statement**: “People and Nature, healing each other.” ## Products & Services - **[Guide]**: An in-cabin tablet and precision sensor system that provides operators with real-time maps, alerts, and tree-level insights to ensure prescriptions are met and boundaries observed during fuel treatment operations. - **[Portal]**: A web-based administration platform that automates reporting from the field, allowing project administrators to oversee exponentially more acres and stay close to ground-truth data remotely. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of $8.6M (Seed round, closed November 2022) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Alley Robotics Ventures (lead investor), plus 5 other institutional investors; partners include The Nature Conservancy and The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce - **Growth Signals**: 16 employees as of mid-2026; website traffic growth of +40% month-over-month and +46% year-over-year; actively hiring (Backend Engineer in Tel Aviv, Israel); presented at Forest Innovation Summit and Society of American Foresters National Convention; CEO participated in SF Climate Week panel ## Competitive Advantages - **Precision at scale**: Real-time tree-level data and alerts enable field operators to execute treatments with high accuracy, reducing costly rework and boundary violations. - **Teleoperation & automation**: Teleoperated machinery allows operators to work from safe, remote workstations, while automated reporting frees administrators to oversee many more acres. - **Integrated hardware+software**: Proprietary sensors, in-cabin tablets, and cloud platform create a closed-loop system that others in the forestry/fire prevention space lack. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling landscape restoration**: Earth Force aims to expand the adoption of precision fuel treatments to confront the growing wildfire crisis, which causes $394–$893 billion in annual economic costs in the U.S. alone. - **Expanding partnerships**: Collaborating with innovative land managers and presenting at industry conferences to build credibility and pilot new programs. - **Product development**: Continuing to enhance Guide and Portal with autonomous machine capabilities and deeper data analytics. ## Why Work Here - **Mission-driven culture**: Employees directly contribute to reducing catastrophic wildfires and restoring forest health—a tangible environmental impact. - **Collaborative and lean team**: Small, tight-knit team (~16 people) with a flat structure; heavy emphasis on learning and doing things that have never been done before. - **Remote/hybrid flexibility**: Offices in San Francisco (HQ), Tel Aviv, and Canada; team is distributed across the U.S., Israel, and Canada. - **Notable tech stack**: Kubernetes, microservices, Docker, Flutter, Couchbase, Mapbox, GPS, Python, Terraform, GitHub Actions—strong engineering environment with real-world sensor and robotics integration. - **Culture of transparency**: Leadership communicates openly about the wildfire crisis and the company’s role; CEO posts candid updates on LinkedIn. ## Sources 1.
