By leveraging cutting-edge silicon photonic chips smaller than your fingertip, we deliver sensors that are not only revolutionary in performance but also affordable enough to integrate into any system. Our technology disrupts the status quo of bulky, expensive, and power-hungry LiDAR systems, making high-precision sensing accessible for widespread adoption in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, and beyond. With Voyant, the next generation of machines can see, understand, and navigate the world like never before. Discover how we're redefining what's possible by making real products out of cutting-edge research in silicon photonics. The Opportunity We're looking for a senior hardware leader to set the technical direction for the analog and mixed-signal electronics behind our LiDAR modules. You'll operate at the intersection of product design, silicon photonics, and machine perception — owning the hardest trade-offs, setting the standard other engineers build to, and mentoring the team as we scale. This is a high-leverage role for someone who wants their fingerprints on a foundational technology, not just a single product. ## Key Responsibilities - Define the analog and mixed-signal architecture for next-generation LiDAR modules, setting technical direction across TIAs, ADCs, precision current sources, and power delivery (LDOs, switching regulators). - Act as the technical authority on signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC across the product line — establish the design standards and review processes the rest of the team works to. - Lead bring-up, characterization, and validation strategy (EVT/DVT/PVT) across multiple concurrent programs, with accountability for robustness, repeatability, and manufacturability at scale. - Own the highest-stakes design trade-offs (performance, cost, power, integration complexity) that shape product roadmap and unit economics. - Mentor and provide technical direction to other hardware engineers; serve as the senior technical voice in cross-functional reviews with system architects, mechanical engineering, and firmware. - Drive supplier and component strategy for critical analog parts, engaging directly with vendors and foundries on custom or constrained components. - Represent hardware engineering in technical deep-dives with customers, partners, and investors as needed. ## Qualifications - Experience: 10+ years in hands-on hardware development, with end-to-end ownership of multiple systems shipped at high volume. - Leadership: Track record of setting technical direction for a team or product line — not only individual delivery. - Technical Strengths: - Recognized expert in low-noise analog and high-speed digital design. - Go-to authority on signal/power integrity, high-density interconnect, and EMI mitigation techniques. - Proven success driving designs through high-volume DFM, reliability testing, and yield optimization. - Tools & Skills: - Expert in schematic capture and simulation (e.g., SPICE), with deep fluency in Altium or similar. - Advanced use of SI/PI simulation tools (e.g., HyperLynx, SiWave) and measurement tools (GHz-range scopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers). - Extensive experience integrating FPGAs, microcontrollers, and custom analog ASICs at the board level. ## Preferred Qualifications - Prior experience in photonics, LiDAR, or other precision-sensing hardware. - Experience building or scaling a hardware engineering team, or serving formally as a technical lead/architect. - Knowledge of flex and rigid-flex PCB design. - Familiarity with Verilog-AMS, mixed-signal modeling, or FPGA development. - Experience designing for high-reliability or harsh environments (e.g., automotive, aerospace, defense). ## Benefits Package - Competitive base salary and a meaningful equity package. - Comprehensive health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision). - Unlimited PTO and paid company holidays. - Team events and company meetups. ## Equal Opportunity Employer Voyant Photonics is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital or partnership status, age, national origin, citizenship, veteran or military status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, caregiver status, or any other characteristic protected by law. ## About Voyant Photonics ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Voyant Photonics develops solid-state, chip-scale FMCW LiDAR sensors using silicon photonics for machine perception in autonomous vehicles, robotics, and smart infrastructure. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A) - **Headquarters**: New York City, New York, United States - **Founded**: 2019 - **Founders**: Dr. Steven Miller (CTO), Dr. Chris Phare (CSO), Carlos Bhola (Executive Chairman) ## Core Business - **Primary Industry**: Autonomous sensing / LiDAR / Silicon photonics - **Target Customers**: B2B; OEMs and system integrators in automotive, robotics, industrial automation, and smart infrastructure - **Mission**: To enable intelligent machines to operate in harmony with their environment by providing the spatial foundation that AI systems need to perceive the world. ## Products & Services - **Helium™**: A fully solid-state, medium-range 4D LiDAR with no moving parts.
