Our mission is to give engineers more leverage and leaders more clarity, so teams can build better software, faster. Macroscope is founded by former entrepreneurs who have started and sold multiple companies, and operated as product/engineering executives at public tech companies. We're fortunate to be supported by the best VC firms and angels in the business, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Thrive Capital, Google Ventures, and Adverb. ## About the role We’re looking for a Senior Backend Infrastructure Engineer to help shape and scale the foundation of Macroscope’s core services and inference platforms. You’ll play a key role in designing and implementing the distributed systems, infrastructure, and APIs that power our core product, while building the infrastructure needed to deploy and manage LLMs at scale. You’ll lead projects focused on backend scalability, reliability, and performance, ensuring our systems can evolve alongside customer demand. You’ll partner closely with the engineering team to establish best practices across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production operations. You’ll also work closely with our ML Research team to architect and build the infrastructure needed to support our growing ML research, training, and inference workloads. As part of our small team, you’ll work directly with the founders, engineers, and designer to make architectural decisions that will help define the trajectory of our product and company. Our technology stack: TypeScript/React (frontend), Go (backend), Temporal, Google Cloud (GCP), Postgres, Terraform, and custom-built AST "code walkers" in various languages (Go, TypeScript, Swift, Python, Rust). ## Qualifications - Deep experience architecting and operating distributed backend systems at scale. - Expertise in building resilient, performant, and maintainable backend services and APIs. - Strong proficiency with cloud environments, ideally Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including networking, IAM, monitoring, and infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent). - Experience building or operating infrastructure for modern LLM workloads, including inference serving, fine-tuning, and training workflows. Familiarity with techniques such as LoRA and reinforcement learning (RL) is a plus. - Experience leading backend or infrastructure projects and driving architectural decisions in high-growth engineering environments. - Hands-on experience with databases (SQL/Postgres), caching layers, and messaging systems. - Familiarity with observability tools and practices, including logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting. - You use AI tools to accelerate your work as an engineer and stay current with emerging technologies and best practices. - Strong experience with Go, our primary backend language, is highly preferred. - Bonus: experience with Temporal or similar durable execution/workflow orchestration systems. ## About you - You are extremely high agency. We are a small startup and we intend to keep an extremely flat organizational structure for as long as possible. Instead of relying on people managers, product managers and heavy processes, we rely on exceptionally talented individuals with high agency to be self-motivated towards contributing to our mission. - You want to work at an early stage startup. The default state of any startup is failure. The only way to overcome the daunting odds of making a startup venture successful is for a densely packed group of insanely hard working and talented people to work together to build something useful to and loved by customers. If you're not willing to work extremely hard on something high risk, this startup isn't for you. - You act like an owner. You put immense care and craft into what you build because you take responsibility for all parts of the product. You don't walk past broken windows. - You care about what we're building. Life's too short to work on something you're not passionate about. We are a small group of ambitious people who want to build something insanely great that we want to use, and that we think every company will want to use. If our mission and product don't resonate with you, we understand and would encourage you to find something that does. ## About Macroscope ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Macroscope is an AI-powered understanding engine for software engineering teams that automatically summarizes code changes, detects bugs, and answers natural-language questions about the codebase. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A) - **Headquarters**: San Francisco, California, United States - **Founded**: 2023 - **Founders**: Kayvon Beykpour, Joseph Bernstein, Robert Bishop ## Core Business - **Primary industry/industries**: Developer tools, AI-powered code review, engineering productivity software - **Target customers**: B2B; engineering teams at startups and larger enterprises (e.g., XMTP, Things, United Masters, Bilt, Class.com, Seed.com, ParkHub, A24 Labs) - **Mission or purpose statement**: Replace status meetings with on-demand insights, merge code faster with fewer bugs, and bring everyone closer to the product without interrupting engineers. ## Products & Services - **Macroscope Code Review**: AI-driven code review that finds bugs, suggests fixes, and can auto-approve low-risk PRs. Uses Abstract Syntax Trees (AST) and multiple LLM models (OpenAI o4-mini-high, Anthropic Opus 4) for high signal-to-noise detection. Pricing: $0.05 per KB reviewed (10KB min). - **Macroscope Status**: Automatically generates commit summaries, sprint reports, weekly digests, project classification, and productivity statistics for developers and AI agents. Replaces status meetings. - **Macroscope Agent**: An engine for answers and actions available via Slack, GitHub, and API. Performs deep research across the codebase, git log, PRs, and issue tracking (Jira, Linear). Pricing: $0.01 per credit. - **Integrations**: GitHub, Slack, Jira, Linear. Supports custom review rules written in markdown. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of $40 million (Series A of $30 million closed July 2025) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Lightspeed (lead, Michael Mignano), Adverb, Thrive Capital, Google Ventures (GV) - **Growth Signals**: Launched publicly in September 2025; claims to catch 5% more bugs than next-best tool with 75% fewer false positives; customers include multiple notable startups; SOC 2 Type II compliant; team of ~24 employees (22 in product/tech); usage-based pricing model gaining traction. ## Competitive Advantages - **Deep code understanding via AST**: Uses a graph-based representation of the codebase to find hard-to-detect bugs while avoiding false positives. - **Self-learning**: Incorporates feedback from developer reactions, responses, and accepted review comments to improve over time. - **Ticket-aware reviews**: Pulls context from Jira/Linear to evaluate PRs against linked tickets. - **Auto-approval of low-risk PRs**: Frees up human reviewers for high-impact changes. - **Founder pedigree**: Team previously built Periscope (acquired by Twitter) and Magic Pony (acquired by Twitter), giving them deep experience in scaling developer tools and consumer products. ## Strategic Focus - Replacing status meetings and patchwork tooling with a single AI-driven understanding engine. - Scaling code review to handle the increasing volume of AI-generated code. - Expanding integrations and custom rule capabilities for enterprise customers. - Maintaining a high signal-to-noise ratio in bug detection to avoid developer fatigue. ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Fast-moving startup founded by serial entrepreneurs with a proven track record. Emphasis on building the product the founders wish they had – practical, low-friction, developer-first. - **Work policy**: In-office / OnSite in San Francisco, CA. Hybrid arrangement with typical time on-site “In-Office” (likely office-first culture). - **Team**: Small but experienced team (22 product/tech employees) with founding engineers and a dozen other talented teammates. - **Perks**: Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI for developer productivity; direct impact on product direction; usage-based revenue model provides clear customer value; SOC 2 Type II compliance indicates strong security posture. - **Engineering culture**: Strong focus on code quality, AST-based analysis, and multi-model AI architecture. Engineers work closely with ML models and have autonomy to improve the system. ## Sources 1. [macroscope.com](https://macroscope.com/) 2. [macroscope.com/about](https://macroscope.com/about) 3.
