We supply commercial and industrial customers with clean CO₂ captured directly from the atmosphere, transforming a climate threat into a valuable resource. Solving a challenge of this scale takes people with different backgrounds, experiences, and ways of thinking. We value those differences and believe they make us a stronger team. We’re looking for a Senior Process Engineer who can see the whole system, connect the dots, and turn ambitious ideas into fully integrated, working processes. You will integrate new processes into our Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, looking at the entire plant, spotting opportunities, and scaling ideas from concept to production. If you're excited about transitioning clean tech from concept to reality and want to work on climate-critical technology at a groundbreaking startup, this role is for you! This role is onsite in our development and production facility in Berkeley, California. Please Note–due to the requirements of our federal contracts, we can only hire a U.S. permanent resident or citizen for this role. Salary: $150,000-$175,000 per year ## What You’ll Do Here - Lead and contribute to large-scale process designs, from onsite R&D projects to commercial scale installations - Own and maintain Aspen Plus process models to support design, optimization, and technoeconomic evaluation of DAC systems - Contribute to engineering work products for overall process and unit operations including design basis, PFD, P&ID, general arrangements, process control narratives, HAZOPs, and model reviews - Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams such as Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Engineers during the project lifecycle - Support the Operations team in troubleshooting, efficiency improvements, reliability, and data analysis - Collaborate with Finance and Commercial teams to create techno-economic analyses (TEA) for new project evaluations - Mentor junior engineers, including signing off on design changes, conceptualizing new systems, and technically guiding their development - Partner with Supply Chain and vendors to spec and procure major equipment, manage timelines, and align on execution - Maintain rigorous documentation of process designs, test results, and lessons learned to support repeatability across projects ## Your Skills and Abilities Include - 9+ years of Process Engineering experience, ideally including 2 full-cycle process engineering projects from concept through operation - Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, or similar area of study - Proficiency in Aspen Plus (or equivalent process simulation software)—building, validating, and troubleshooting process models, mass/energy balances, and simulations to support both R&D and commercial-scale system design - Hands-on experience with large-scale process equipment (e.g., compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, vessels) and the control strategies used to operate them safely and efficiently - Skilled in communicating with suppliers and vendors, and managing relationships through procurement, installation, and commissioning - Thorough understanding of P&ID standards to create, communicate, and build our project designs (PFDs, P&IDs, GAs, etc.), which vary in size and scope - Proficiency with CAD software for process documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, GAs, etc.) is a plus - Experience working at or with large-scale industrial companies, with a clear understanding of systems integration and operational best practices, is a plus - Experience with government-funded projects is a plus - Experience in an early-stage or growth-stage company progressing technology toward commercialization is a plus Aircapture strives to create a safe, inclusive, equitable and diverse workplace where everyone can do their best work. We hope you feel welcome here. ## About Aircapture ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Aircapture provides commercial and industrial customers with beverage-grade CO₂ captured directly from the atmosphere via modular Direct Air Capture (DAC) machines, disrupting legacy supply chains with a circular carbon economy. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A) - **Headquarters**: Berkeley, California, United States - **Founded**: 2019 - **Founders**: Matt Atwood ## Core Business - **Primary industry/industries**: Climate Technology, Direct Air Capture (DAC), Carbon Dioxide Utilization, Industrial Gas Supply - **Target customers**: B2B — commercial and industrial customers in need of reliable, on-site CO₂ supply (e.g., beverage companies, greenhouses, manufacturing) - **Mission or purpose statement**: To deploy DAC and carbon-to-product technologies widely while addressing climate inequity and developing the infrastructure of the future, with the ultimate goal of socio-environmental equilibrium [aircapture.com](https://aircapture.com/about-us). ## Products & Services - **On-Site CO₂-as-a-Service**: Aircapture installs modular DAC machines on customer premises that capture CO₂ from the atmosphere and make it immediately available for production processes. This eliminates transportation emissions, supply chain volatility, and impurities associated with legacy CO₂ sources. - **Beverage Grade CO₂**: Ultra-pure CO₂ suitable for carbonated beverages, food processing, and other applications requiring high purity. - **Circular Carbon Economy Infrastructure**: The company builds and scales the physical infrastructure to produce carbon from the atmosphere, enabling carbon-to-value industries. ## Market Standing - **Valuation/Market Cap**: Not publicly available - **Key Metric**: Total Funding — $50.0M (Series A closed June 5, 2025, led by Larsen Lam Climate Change Foundation; prior grant from US Department of Energy in 2022) [linkedin.com](https://www.linkedin.com/company/air-capture) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Larsen Lam Climate Change Foundation (lead Series A), US Department of Energy (grant) - **Growth Signals**: Headcount of 44 employees (+13.3% YoY); 6 active job postings (+100% YoY); 6,518 LinkedIn followers (+33.1% YoY); operates out of a 19,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility in West Berkeley focused on rapid prototyping and production [linkedin.com](https://www.linkedin.com/company/air-capture) [aircapture.com](https://aircapture.com/careers) ## Competitive Advantages - **Proprietary DAC Technology**: Modular, on-site systems that eliminate the need for CO₂ transportation, drastically reducing supply chain emissions (the company estimates 2+ tonnes of CO₂ are emitted for every tonne of legacy CO₂ delivered). - **Cost-Effective & Verifiable**: DAC can be sited anywhere, has no natural or technical limits to scale, and the quantity removed is verifiable and cost-effective today. - **First-Mover in Circular CO₂ Economy**: Positioned to serve customers who want to decarbonize their supply chain while gaining independence from volatile commodity CO₂ markets. ## Strategic Focus - **Scaling DAC Deployment**: Moving from prototype to commercial production, with a focus on manufacturing and deploying units to customers across multiple industries. - **Building the Infrastructure of the Future**: Developing the physical and digital systems needed to support a circular carbon economy at scale. - **Talent Acquisition**: Actively hiring across engineering disciplines (Senior Data Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, Senior Microwave Engineer, Director of Test Engineering, Process Engineer I) to accelerate product development and deployment [greenhouse.io](http://job-boards.greenhouse.io/aircapture). ## Why Work Here - **Mission-Driven Work**: Employees work on what the company calls "this era's most meaningful work" — solving the climate crisis through scalable carbon removal technology. - **Culture & Values**: Emphasizes diversity of thought, education, gender, ethnicity, and background. Core values include "One Team, One Mission," "Always Forward," "Honesty Drives Progress," and "Solve for Scale" [aircapture.com](https://aircapture.com/about-us). - **Benefits**: Ground floor equity, medical/dental/vision coverage, 401k plan, unlimited paid time off, stocked kitchen, catered lunches/BBQs, relaxed dress code, and a state-of-the-art 12,000 sq ft facility in West Berkeley [aircapture.com](https://aircapture.com/careers). - **Work Model**: Primarily in-person at the Berkeley facility to build team rapport, but open to discussing remote opportunities for the right candidates. - **Engineering Culture**: Hands-on R&D environment with rapid prototyping, iteration, and in-house production.
