But that's the position we find ourselves in. Join us, and you’ll unleash scientists, accelerate their research and help get cures to patients sooner. We’ve developed machines to fully automate human cell production - the most manual process in Biotech. Cells are used to discover and develop new drugs, and now they're being used to treat cancer too. Mytos will impact cure development across the board. We're live in multibillion dollar biotechs on both coasts of the US, and just raised $19m to expand into the market faster, and accelerate our development! We’ve assembled a world-class team to take on this challenge, with ex-Dyson engineers and Nature-published scientists working hand-in-hand. You can learn more about your potential Mytos teammates here: Team Mytos is backed by Y Combinator, the most successful startup program in the world which produced companies such as AirBnb, Dropbox, and Ginkgo Bioworks. ## The Role This is an opportunity to redefine how the future of the biotech lab works. As the founding member of the Design team, you will be responsible for all aspects of Design at Mytos: from research, to concepting, to testing, to pixel-perfect UI. You’ll also define the design systems used across the whole company. Aside from occasional hardware interactions, the entire surface area of our product is in software - ranging from setting up experiments, managing cell batches in real-time, and analysing data. ## What you’ll be doing - Working with the founders + product teams to lead our design process from start to finish: from research, to concepting, to testing, to pixel-perfect UI - Solving complex problems using customer-centric, validated and delightful product design - Spending time with our internal lab biologists, to understand how biologists think - Defining interaction models, task flows and screen designs. - Defining our design systems, so others in the company or externals can create assets that are cohesive - Taking part in discovery, workshop and co-design sessions with customers and colleagues. ## Who you are - You want an environment where you have high autonomy and decision-making agency to influence the direction - Broad set of design skills across all aspects: from research, to human-centred design, to prototyping and visualisation - You're curious and learn new areas fast - A master of your toolkit - Figma (Our main tool), and your other preferred design and graphics tools - Mastered the range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and when to apply them to validate your design ## Nice to have - Have been the first designer at a startup in the past - Ability to code: we welcome designers polishing the front-end in production / contributing to the codebase - A background in Biology or another science Salary and Benefits - Competitive salary with stock options - Lunch covered daily - Collaborative team environment with very high potential to learn new skills - 24 days holiday (excluding bank holidays) - Pension - Awesome colleagues and an office in the Imperial College Innovation hub in White City, where you’ll be based. We’re building a team that enjoys moving fast, strives for continuous improvement through learning from mistakes and is passionate about work that contributes to solving real world problems. Join us if you want a fast-paced environment, where you’re empowered to make decisions and do the best work of your career. ## About Mytos ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Mytos is building the world’s first fully automated cell manufacturing platform to scale regenerative medicines from clinical trials to millions of patients at low cost. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series A, $24M+ total funding) - **Headquarters**: London, United Kingdom - **Founded**: 2016 - **Founders**: Ali Afshar (CEO) and Ignacio Willats ## Core Business - **Primary industry**: Biotechnology / Regenerative Medicine / Automated Cell Therapy Manufacturing - **Target customers**: Clinical-stage cell therapy companies (B2B, Enterprise CDMO), large pharma R&D groups - **Mission**: To scale regenerative medicines to millions of patients by automating the production of stem cell-derived therapies ## Products & Services - **iDEM™ Platform**: Proprietary automated cell culture system that uses standard 2D T-flasks to seamlessly port manual protocols into closed, scalable automation without compromising biology. Reduces labour per batch by up to 10x and cleanroom footprint per batch by another 10x. - **Mytos CDMO**: A fully automated contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) powered by iDEM technology. Site 1 is housed within the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult’s 80,000 sqft facility in Stevenage, UK. Offers end-to-end manufacturing services including Process & Analytical Development, Regulatory Support, and batch production with up to 50% lower batch costs compared to manual CDMOs. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: Not publicly disclosed - **Key Metric**: Total funding of over $24M (Series A led by Buckley Ventures in November 2023; prior rounds include Y Combinator, IQ Capital, and TBD Angels) - **Notable Investors/Partners**: Y Combinator, Buckley Ventures, IQ Capital; founders/execs from Wayve, Dropbox, Segment, Mercury, Sana, BMS, Revolut; partnerships with Pluristyx, NOVADIP Biosciences, StemSight, and Rinri Therapeutics - **Growth Signals**: Headcount of ~27 employees (+11.6% YoY); announced three cell therapy manufacturing deals in September 2025; launched automated CDMO in October 2025; first in-patient dosing targeted for 2027; 5 active job postings; strong LinkedIn follower growth (+39.4% yearly) ## Competitive Advantages - **Biology-preserving automation**: Uses the same 2D T-flask format as manual culture, meaning no need to re-engineer existing protocols — a major barrier to adoption for competing solutions. - **Fleet architecture**: Unlike large robotic-arm solutions, the iDEM fleet has no single point of failure, increasing reliability for clinical/commercial production. - **Cost leadership**: Claims up to 50% lower batch costs vs. manual CDMOs and 10x labour reduction, making therapies economically viable at scale. - **End-to-end CDMO model**: Integrates process development, regulatory support, and manufacturing under one roof, reducing tech transfer delays. ## Strategic Focus - **Scale the CDMO**: Expand global manufacturing sites beyond the UK (plans in place for a series of global sites). - **Clinical validation**: Move from R&D partnerships to clinical-stage manufacturing, with cells produced on iDEM entering patients by 2027. - **Partnership pipeline**: Continue signing deals across multiple therapeutic areas (Parkinson’s, blindness, bone repair, hearing loss) to diversify revenue and de-risk technology. - **Hiring for growth**: Actively recruiting across engineering, quality, and scientific leadership to support CDMO ramp-up. ## Why Work Here - **Mission-driven impact**: Directly work on curing Parkinson’s, blindness, and spinal cord injuries at scale — a rare combination of deep tech and patient impact. - **Culture & team**: Rated 4.5/5 on employer review platforms (Culture: 4.4, Career: 4.6). Team includes engineers from Dyson, Autodesk, and Matic Robots alongside Nature-published scientists. - **Work location**: On-site in London (HQ at 80 Wood Lane) with additional offices in Newark, California and Billingstad, Norway. - **Growth opportunity**: Early-stage company (27 people) with clear trajectory to clinical manufacturing — offers outsized ownership and impact for early hires. - **Perks & environment**: Fast-paced startup environment; cross-disciplinary collaboration between hardware, software, and biology teams; close ties to Y Combinator and top-tier biotech investors. ## Sources 1.
