Engineering organizations are investing in AI faster than they can account for it. Provider invoices show what was spent, but not what it delivered, leaving leaders to make high-stakes investment and governance decisions from incomplete evidence. Workforce Intelligence changes that by connecting AI telemetry to the Jira work items, epics, and initiatives where funded work is managed. As it extends across Tempo's suite, it can become the execution-layer system of record for AI return on investment, helping engineering leaders evaluate tools and models using their own data, see where AI changes delivery, and act on what they learn. The foundation is in place, but the category is still being defined. What evidence will a VP of Engineering trust in a board conversation? How should companies benchmark rapidly changing tools and govern agent-only work? You will answer those questions with design partners, shape the standard, and own the trajectory from customer experiments to the adoption, retention, and revenue that make Workforce Intelligence a business Tempo is known for. ## About the Role We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead Workforce Intelligence from an emerging product into a durable business. You will own the strategy, roadmap, and commercial outcomes for the product. Success will be measured through adoption, retention, and revenue, not the volume of features shipped. This is a role for someone who is at their best when the category, customer need, and answer are still taking shape. You will form clear hypotheses, test them with customer data, and change course when the evidence does not hold up. You will work directly with engineering leaders, then bring what you learn back to a cross-functional team spanning engineering, design, sales, marketing, customer success, finance, and other Tempo product teams. You will need to earn alignment rather than rely on authority. The strongest candidate can turn technical ambiguity into a clear product decision, connect a roadmap to a business result, and explain what AI delivers in language a customer or executive can trust. ## What You'll Do We build in small, dedicated teams. You'll work directly with engineering and design from problem definition through shipped features, with minimal handoff and maximum ownership. We use AI collaboratively throughout our own work to streamline communication and accelerate delivery. You'll own: - The Workforce Intelligence strategy and roadmap, with clear bets tied to activation, adoption, retention, and revenue. - Run continuous discovery with CTOs, VPs of Engineering, engineering managers, and design partners to understand how they evaluate AI tools, productivity, spend, and risk. - Turn uncertain customer problems into testable hypotheses. Prototype quickly, run experiments with real customer data, and stop work that does not earn further investment. - Lead the evolution of trusted attribution and reporting, from AI activity and cost at the work-item level to executive narratives about throughput, delivery dates, capacity, and savings. - Develop Tempo's point of view on agent oversight, including how organizations identify agent-only work, connect it to funded initiatives, explain its cost, and review results with appropriate context. - Shape tool and model benchmarking that reflects a customer's own teams and work, with transparent methods and confidence rather than broad vendor claims. - Set the connector and data strategy across AI providers, developer environments, source control, work management, collaboration tools, and Tempo's own products. - Partner with the Product Managers for Timesheets, Capacity Planner, and Financial Manager to create connected customer value while keeping product ownership and sequencing clear. - Work with sales, marketing, and customer success on positioning, pricing, packaging, launches, enablement, adoption, and expansion. Be the source of truth for what the product can prove and where confidence has limits. - Define instrumentation and operating metrics for the product. Review the evidence regularly and make visible trade-offs across customer value, technical feasibility, trust, and commercial impact. - Represent Workforce Intelligence with customers, partners, Atlassian, and senior leaders. Communicate a crisp point of view and bring others with you when priorities compete. What Success Looks Like In the first year, success looks less like a shipped feature list and more like a set of relationships and decisions that didn't exist before you got here. - You'll have shipped attribution and reporting that a VP of Engineering trusts enough to bring into a board conversation, measured by real adoption and retention among early adopters. - You'll have a validated point of view on agent governance and benchmarking, tested against customer data rather than assumption, that shapes where the product goes next. - You'll have a small portfolio of experiments run with real design partners that killed at least one idea the team believed in and replaced it with one the data actually supported. - You'll be the person sales, marketing, and customer success turn to for the story on what AI delivers, because you own both the roadmap and the results. ## Who You Are We care more about how you've operated in ambiguity than whether you've held the title before. If you've built product in a category still being defined, worked as the connective tissue between engineering and a skeptical finance or executive audience, or run experiments that changed a roadmap because the data said to, we want to talk to you. We care about how you have operated in ambiguity, not only the titles you have held. If you have built for technical customers, turned uncertain data into a decision, or changed a roadmap because customer evidence disproved the original idea, we want to talk to you. Product and business experience - 5+ years of product management experience, including end-to-end ownership of a B2B SaaS or data product for a technical audience. - A record of improving adoption, retention, expansion, or revenue. You can explain the decisions you made, the measures you used, and what changed as a result. - Experience taking a product or major product area from discovery through launch and growth, working closely with go-to-market teams as well as engineering and design. - Strong judgment in an ambiguous market. You can separate an interesting capability from a customer problem worth solving and make a clear investment case. Discovery and experimentation - Deep customer discovery skills across interviews, usage data, prototypes, and live product experiments. - Experience designing tests that can disprove a product hypothesis, not just collect positive feedback. - Comfort working with imperfect or inferred data. You surface confidence and limitations clearly and avoid presenting correlation as proof. - The discipline to change a roadmap when customer evidence conflicts with the original plan. Technical and domain fluency - Experience building developer tools, engineering intelligence, data and analytics products, AI governance products, or another technically complex enterprise product. - Working knowledge of software delivery: Jira work items, source control, pull requests, engineering performance measures, and the ways AI tools and agents now enter that workflow. - Enough data fluency to partner closely with engineering and analytics on attribution models, instrumentation, benchmarks, and reporting methodology. - Experience with the Atlassian ecosystem or another platform and marketplace business is a strong advantage. AI product judgment - Hands-on use of modern AI tools and a tested point of view on where AI produces measurable value and where it can create convincing but unreliable output. - Understanding of the product trade-offs around model evaluation, agent behavior, privacy, governance, cost, and rapidly changing vendor capabilities. - Ability to define a trustworthy measure of human and AI-assisted work, including where the evidence supports a conclusion and where it does not. Communication and complexity tolerance - A history of aligning engineering, design, sales, marketing, customer success, finance, and executives around a shared outcome when none of those groups reported to you. - Clear, concise writing and presentation skills. You can explain a complex technical and commercial problem without hiding behind jargon. - Credibility with senior technical buyers and the curiosity to learn how their decisions are actually made. - Low attachment to your own ideas and high commitment to the outcome. You share hypotheses early, invite challenge, and make decisions plainly.
