We are looking for a Firmware Engineer to lead our technical team and architect our firmware development. This role requires strong skills in firmware architecture, driver development, requirements specification, and embedded control systems, along with enough electronics knowledge to work fluently with hardware teams. This is an in office role with 4-5 days expected in office in Sunnyvale California. Flexible working from home is allowed and expected during different phases of our projects. ## Responsibilities - Lead the firmware engineering team and represent firmware priorities in cross-functional design discussions - Partner with Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Systems Engineering to design, validate, and ship products, including: - Writing drivers and state machines for custom PCBs (with EE) - Building firmware within mechanical design constraints (with ME) - Integrating firmware into the software update pipeline, help develop firmware build systems, and debugging firmware to software communication (with SWE) - Debugging test hardware and resolving customer issues (with Systems) - Write firmware to actuate smart hardware devices, including sensor integration, signal processing, motor control, and feedback control system design - Develop and maintain real-time C/C++ firmware on TI/ARM platforms using TI-RTOS - Build unit, board, and regression tests in C++ and Python using test-driven development - Define and implement firmware development best practices - Mentor junior engineers and support EE/Systems engineers working in firmware ## Requirements - BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field - 7+ years of firmware engineering experience - Deep experience with C, C++, and Python - Strong grasp of analog and digital circuits and skilled in reading and understanding electrical schematics and how they relate to firmware job tasks - Experience with TI microcontrollers and communication interfaces (USB, I2C, SPI, UART, custom serial protocols, etc.) - Proficient with version control (Git or similar) - Skilled in circuit and system-level debugging using multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench equipment - Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership or mentorship within an engineering team ## Preferred - Experience with Altium Designer - Familiarity of Field Oriented Control(FOC) of PMSM motors - Experience with in-circuit testing of PCBAs - Comfortable troubleshooting board-level issues alongside the electrical team - Experience with Protobuf and nanopb - Bootloader (or similar OTA update tools) development experience You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position.
