Over twenty years we have established ourselves as the market leader in governance and board effectiveness, trusted by more than 80,000 directors, executives, and governance professionals globally, including across the Fortune 500, FTSE 100, and OMX 30. That trust has been earned through depth of insight, rigorous advisory work, and a track record that newer entrants simply cannot replicate. We have invested in applied AI since 2020, well ahead of the market, and that early conviction has paid off. Our AI-powered platform and smart board advisor give us a competitive advantage that is widening, not narrowing. In 2024, K1 Investment Management, the leading B2B Enterprise SaaS investor, backed us to accelerate that position further. We are now growing fast, with a proven commercial model spanning both mid-market and enterprise, and a product suite that has become a necessary addition in high-stakes board environments. The people joining us now will shape how we scale. We are deliberate about how we do that. Our founders and leadership team are deeply invested in keeping the culture that got us here: thoughtful, high calibre, and genuinely human. Ambition and balance are not in competition at Board Intelligence. If you want to work at the intersection of AI and governance, on problems that matter at the highest level, this is a strong place to be. ## Our Mission We unleash the potential of organisations through the science of board effectiveness, building better businesses and benefitting society. ## The Role AI is at the heart of what Board Intelligence builds. Boards and senior leaders rely on our AI to support their most important decisions, so the quality of its output has to be close to perfect. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our AI team as its dedicated engineer. The team includes prompt engineers and subject matter experts, and you will build the systems they need. Your first priority is our AI evaluation suite: the tools we use to measure and improve the quality of AI output across our products. Over time, you may move on to building one of our AI-powered products. You do not need deep AI or machine learning experience; the team will help you get up to speed quickly. What matters is that you are a strong full-stack engineer who is comfortable in ambiguity and happy to build largely independently, in a field where good practice is still being defined. Main Responsibilities - Design and build our AI evaluation suite, the systems we use to measure and improve the quality of AI output - Build across the full stack yourself, from data pipelines and backend services to the front-end tools our experts use - Work closely with prompt engineers and subject matter experts, turning their knowledge into tests, metrics and tooling - Help define how we measure AI quality, in a field where practices are still forming - Make evaluation processes and results automated as part of our SDLC, so product teams can ship with confidence - Over time, contribute to building our AI-powered products Person Specification We are looking for a strong all-round engineer who is comfortable working independently, enjoys ambiguity and wants to work at the forefront of AI quality. Required Skills and Experience - Upper mid-level to senior professional software engineering experience - ## Experience building AI powered products or tooling - Full-stack experience across front end and back end - Comfort working independently and in ambiguity, setting your own direction - Experience collaborating with non-engineers and turning their expertise into working software - A strong focus on quality, testing and attention to detail - Experience using AI coding tools in your day-to-day work - Fluent written and spoken English Nice to haves - Experience with building evaluation suites for AI products - ## Experience with Python and TypeScript - Experience building internal tools, testing frameworks or data pipelines - Experience at a startup or in a small team where you built things end to end What good looks like in this role - After three months: the first version of the evaluation suite is running and our engineering teams are using it - After six months: evaluations cover all of our AI products and are integrated into the SDLC - After twelve months: evaluation is a standard part of how we ship AI, and you are a trusted voice on AI quality across engineering ## Our Values Our values aren’t just words on a wall. They capture our culture, and the behaviours we see and strive for every day. Kindness & caring — We celebrate brilliance that comes without big egos or sharp elbows, and we win while raising each other up. Curiosity & innovation — Entrepreneurship is in our blood. We’re inquisitive, challenge convention, think big, and move fast. Remarkable quality & service — We take joy from delighting our clients and pride ourselves on ensuring every interaction is exceptional. ## Benefits We pride ourselves on our great working environment and package. Here's some of what's on offer: Pension scheme Personal performance bonus 26 days holiday each calendar year Bupa health & dental cover Group life assurance EAP Cycle to work scheme Diversity, equity and inclusion Board Intelligence is committed to building a team that reflects the breadth of experience, background and perspective needed to do this work well.
