As a Software Engineer on the Business Systems, you will build the software that runs the company: the integrations, automations, internal tools, and platform extensions behind how we sell, ship, bill, and account for 3D printers used worldwide. You will write production code across our core business platforms (NetSuite, Salesforce, Shopify, and our GCP-based data platform) and see your work used by colleagues across Finance, Sales, Service, Marketing, and Operations. This role is built for early-career engineers, including recent graduates, who learn fast and want real ownership early. Rather than joining a single tool team on day one, you will work across several parts of our Systems department, building breadth with the opportunity to go deeper into multiple areas such as Financial Systems, Digital Systems, Data Engineering or Integrations. We hire for slope over specialized tool experience: we care more about how quickly you learn and how well you ship than about which platforms you already know. You will join the Systems team, which enables all Formlabs teams with enterprise applications, infrastructure, data, and security to do their best work. The team supports all areas of the company, has team members globally, and reports to the CIO. This role is based in our Somerville, MA office and will be a hybrid role with the expectation of at least 3 days a week in office. The Job: - Build and Ship: Write, test, and deploy production code in TypeScript/Node.js and Python: system integrations, workflow automations, internal tools, and extensions to platforms like Shopify, Salesforce, and NetSuite. - Learn the Landscape: Work on real projects across our portfolios (Financial Systems, Digital Systems, and Data Platform) to understand how data and transactions flow from a customer order through fulfillment, billing, and financial reporting. - Connect Systems: Build and maintain APIs, webhooks, and data pipelines that move information reliably between our eCommerce, CRM, ERP, and data warehouse. - Engineer with AI: Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex as a core part of how you work, and help build AI-supported workflows that make the business faster. - Own the Lifecycle: Take work from problem definition and requirements with business stakeholders through design, testing, CI/CD, and deployment, and support what you ship in production. - Raise the Bar: Follow and improve our engineering standards: version control, code review, automated testing, and clear documentation, so what we build is easy to maintain. - Grow Your Path: Work with your manager to identify where you can have the most impact and build depth toward a focused engineering role within Systems. You: - Early in Your Career: 0–3 years of professional software engineering experience, including internships and co-ops. Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply. - Solid Fundamentals: Working proficiency in at least one of Python or TypeScript/JavaScript, with a grasp of core concepts like data structures, APIs, and debugging, plus a willingness to pick up the other. - High Slope: A track record of learning quickly and building things, shown through internships, personal or open-source projects, hackathons, research, or coursework that went beyond the assignment. - AI-Native: Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar) and good judgment about reviewing and verifying what they produce. - Business Curiosity: Genuine interest in how a company actually operates and a desire to understand the business problem, not just the ticket. - Ownership & Communication: You take responsibility for outcomes, ask good questions, and can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues. - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Bonus Points: - Experience writing SQL and working with relational databases or a data warehouse (e.g., BigQuery). - Experience building on Node.js, REST APIs, or webhooks. - Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). - Familiarity with Git/GitHub workflows and CI/CD pipelines. - Exposure to business platforms such as Salesforce, NetSuite, or Shopify. - Prior internship or project work in IT, business systems, or internal tools. Our Perks & Benefits: - Robust equity program to build future wealth through RSUs - Comprehensive healthcare coverage (Medical, Dental, Vision) - Low cost fund options in our 401K and access to advisors - Generous paid Parental Leave (up to 16 weeks) - Tenure-based paid Sabbatical Leave (up to 6 weeks) - Flexible Out of Office Plan – Take time when you need it - Ample free on-site parking & pre-tax commuter benefits - Healthy on-site lunches, snacks, beverages, & treats - Regular sponsored professional development opportunities - Many opt-in culture events across our diverse community - And of course… unlimited 3D prints We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. Even if you don’t check every box, but see yourself contributing, please apply. Help us build an inclusive community that will change the face of 3D printing. Compensation: Equity is a big part of the compensation package at Formlabs - every employee receives equity because everyone contributes to building the company. We have a lot of confidence in the products we’re building and the impact we’re making, and you should too. Base pay is the other part of our compensation package, and it is carefully determined based on your skills, experience, and expected impact. Equity and base pay combine to make up your total compensation package at Formlabs. The annual base pay range for this role is: $100,000—$140,000 USD ## About Formlabs ## Company Overview - **One-liner**: Formlabs designs and manufactures professional desktop 3D printers, materials, and software that make industrial-quality additive manufacturing accessible to businesses across a wide range of industries. - **Entity Type**: Private (Series E, valuation $2B as of 2021) - **Headquarters**: Boston, Massachusetts, USA - **Founded**: 2011 - **Founders**: Max Lobovsky, Natan Linder, David Cranor (MIT graduate students) ## Core Business - **Primary industries**: 3D printing hardware, software, and materials; additive manufacturing - **Target customers**: B2B — from small businesses and entrepreneurs to large enterprises in medical, automotive, aerospace, footwear, consumer goods, and education - **Mission/purpose**: “Enable anyone to make anything” – expanding access to digital fabrication through affordable, professional 3D printing ## Products & Services - **SLA 3D Printers (Form 3, Form 3L, Form 4)**: Desktop stereolithography printers that deliver industrial part quality, precision, and repeatability. - **SLS 3D Printers (Fuse 1, Fuse 1+)**: Selective laser sintering printers for functional, end-use nylon parts. - **Proprietary Materials**: Over 45 formulations including standard resins, engineering resins, dental materials, and jewelry casting resins. - **PreForm Software**: Free slicing and print preparation software optimized for Formlabs printers. - **Fleet Management Software**: Cloud-based platform for managing multiple printers, tracking usage, and automating workflows. ## Market Standing - **Valuation**: $2B (reported during the $150M Series E round in 2021) - **Key Metric**: Total funding of over $250M across rounds (Series A–E); 130,000+ printers sold and 300M+ parts printed globally - **Notable Investors/Partners**: New Enterprise Associates (NEA), DFJ, Tyche Partners, and other leading venture firms; customers include “global leaders” in medical, automotive, aerospace, and footwear - **Growth Signals**: Headcount of 750+ employees (up from ~550 in recent years); 161 active job postings as of mid-2026, with +631.8% year-over-year growth in postings; expansion into 8 global offices across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific; new manufacturing facility in Millbury, OH ## Competitive Advantages - **Vertical integration**: In-house design of hardware, software, and materials ensures a tightly optimized user experience and rapid iteration - **Proprietary ecosystem**: 45+ materials that work exclusively with Formlabs printers, creating a strong lock-in and consistent quality - **Accessibility + quality**: First to bring SLA and SLS to the professional desktop market at a fraction of the cost of industrial systems - **Scale and brand trust**: Over 130,000 printers in the field, used in 10+ industries, giving Formlabs the largest installed base of any professional desktop 3D printing company ## Strategic Focus - **Global expansion**: Deepening presence in Asia (Shenzhen, Tokyo, Singapore) and Europe (Berlin, Budapest) - **Manufacturing scale**: Building out production capacity in Millbury, Ohio to meet growing demand - **New market segments**: Developing specialized materials and application-specific printers for dental, jewelry, and mass-customization use cases - **Software and services**: Enhancing fleet management and workflow automation to move “from prototyping to production” ## Why Work Here - **Culture**: Employees describe a culture of “curiosity, autonomy, and results” with a collaborative, hands-on environment.
